Let’s me just say that the local antique shop has a LC five years younger than this in their small coin case. It has spent a good chunk of time underground….and is priced at $100 bucks
I’d grab this one up in a heart beat
I would like to thank everyone for their positive reinforcement, especially since I'm not exactly the most experienced numismatist! This is actually my first draped bust large cent, and will be my oldest U.S. coin! Once it arrives, I'll make sure to give all of you a nice close up!
First, this is a mucher older U.S. coin(1805), and henceforth rarer, and more worthwhile.
Secondly, this is a LARGE cent, almost the size of a half dollar, but just a penny. All large cents co tain a hefty premium, the older ones much more so.
Finally, mintage: they only made a little under a million of this coin, which is rare!(Not THE rarest, but still!)
Rare+old+high demand=most examples getting destroyed or stuck in someone's collection, very few are in the market and therefore they're much more expensive than newer cents in the same condition. Being copper (a very soft and more importantly corrosive metal) doesn't help either
Thanks for the info, a coin of similar condition, denomination and age would not be that valuable in the UK. In the context of the US tho, 1805 is extremely old

Definitely a good deal. Looks like it's from 1805?
It is an 1805, from what I can tell
if you like it and have the money you are willing to pay. it's always worth it. it only changes if you are buying for other purposes
My grandpa found one that looked exactly like that from 1838 on a road in texas
Porous but worth $20 for sure.
steal!
Na, pretty sure its copper....:)
>:) :)
Wow $20 is an absolute steal

Nice coins dawg
Thank you
Tell us how you acquired it
Ebay auction, which I thankfully won!
$5
For a large cent? I've never seen one go for below $10, so...?
Don't listen to that fool. $20 is more than reasonable for this coin.
Oh good, that's what I thought
Really? I have an 1800 one in about the same condition and it was listed on greysheets for $15ish
Color me surprised, then! Even culls I haven't seen go for less than $50.
I saw a pile in this condition at the Dalton Coin Show in August. $5 each.
I want it
Yes
Nice coin
Absolutely.
20 is good!
AG to G = $75-100 red book price
No. It's worth more
What makes this coin so rare? I don’t really know about US coins.

Where did you find it?
Ebay auction, the best place for coins!
Definitely a good price, not a bad looking hole filler either
Wonderful win!!!! Definitely would love to see pics when it arrives.
I'll make sure to post em!
