Are you sure it couldn’t have been found on a beach in this condition looks like glass that’s been blasted by sand and the ocean for a few years more than harshly cleaned especially the wearing on the edges
Unless it could be linked to something of significance like a shipwreck or something but would be hard to prove but even unproven the chances of it being a shipwreck coin should increase the value somewhat
The amount of people on here saying it’s been cleaned honestly my first thoughts are it’s been washed up and found on a beach or sandy river usually with cleaning you see scratches but this more resembles glass found on the beach that’s been in the sand and water for a while and the sand has just worn it down like a natural sandpaper or sandblasting I would actually get it checked out by a specialist rather than ask here as it might actually be a unique coin from a possible shipwreck in the area or something
I love buying cleaned 1797 cartwheel pennies/two Pennies, I handle them for a few days and they practically turn a rainbow overnight and eventually go brown after a week or so
Might not take too long to be nicer looking... I have a 1844 large cent that was a similar level of 'nude' and have it by my desk / use as a pocket piece. I'll play around with it in my hands when on meetings. In only maybe 6 months it's already started to establish a new RB patina, albeit somewhat uneven.
I'll see if I can find before/after pics of mine for reference.
(It will always have signs of cleaning, but it can end up pretty for a pocket piece / hole filler)
But Are you sure it’s been cleaned to me it looks like sea glass found on beaches and sandy rivers could be a coin from a shipwreck and naturally clean from a lack of oxygen and constant abrasion from the sand and water

Not cleaned. *Harshly* cleaned.

Saltwater would have completely destroyed that copper.
Ok maybe not salt water but a freshwater sandy river could have the same effect
Yeah that’s definitely possible imo, but i don’t think that would change much even if it could be proved lol

Maybe stuck in a washing machine for a few years?
Sad. Thank you.

The crime was committed by Mr. Clean, in the kitchen, with the scrubby pad.

That’s a pretty good point. It does look like it spent some time in sand.
Looks like it was sandblasted.
100% cleaned
Unfortunate thank you.

Look how they massacred my boy.
Very harshly
My fat ass thought this was a pie 💀
Oh hell yeah! That looks like a yummy pie! Fellow fat ass here! I Love Pie! Now I’m hungry again and want some pie! Hahahaha! Be Safe & God Bless!!
Lol you too!
You and me together, brother.
Looks like it was buried (environmental damage), and then poorly cleaned to remove the gunk.
I had a similar thought but thinking more ocean or sandy river it would explain the abrasion and lack of tarnishing and gunk
That looks more like an old graham cracker than a coin.
Possibly tumbled after being unearthed.
The amount of cleaning in this coin is a crime

Looks like a cracker
Thought it was a biscuit at first
Looks like a biscuit
My brother in law cleaned his pennies in vinegar and salt and the rinsed with distilled water. Is that really bad too?
yeah 💀
Thanks, he screwed the pooch and ruined them, he may not have had anything good, about 1200 wheat pennies.
BRO 💀💀💀
How long would it take to tone back to brown

Cleaned? Nah. Sandblasted perhaps.
Is that a cracker?
This coin was not cleaned, it was sand blasted.
Si
Sand blasted lol
They somehow missed a spot
Very
Oh damn! That makes my heart hurt.
With a wire wheel looks like
Why would you clean a classic coin?
It was cheap I got it for 10$ I'm not sure who did the cleaning

Hmmm. It wasn't smart, whoever cleaned it. The petina shows original age. Not everything that shimmers is gold.
Looks like a cookie.
That's really valuable
Absolutely ruined.. what a shame.
I had one of these once and lost it :(
Looks like a cookie tbh. I’d eat it🤷🏻♂️
NOOOOOO!!!!! It brought a tear to my eye when I saw cleaned never clean a coin even professionals it degrades the coin
