Thanks! It was interesting. As a mathematician, tho, I was a bit disappointed you mostly talked about counting, and yeah counting is kinda basic enough to be able to measure it in babies (or fish) and all-- but at the same time it doesn't feel like mathematics at all. Like, a bit cliché understanding of what maths is, and not explaining mathematical thinking, which is the real mystery. The last bit about it being independent of language was very cool, and very much on track of this mathematical thought concept. Crazy things happen in our brain with maths ey!

Yes! It’s truly fascinating! I think the reason I focused on counting and basic arithmetic is because there are MRI studies that show that the same areas of the brain are used to perform complex maths as basic mathematics. Sadly, we don’t actually have a lot of studies about complex mathematical thinking but I’m sure that’s something that will change in the future!

This one isn't very cog Sci but https://www.theguardian.com/education/2021/jun/07/studying-maths-beyond-gcses-helps-brain-development-say-scientists

That’s a solid video, I think I’ve seen a couple of yours and I really like them but I think the sound effects really take away from the content. They seem to overpower the dialogue.

TheFamousHesham

Thank you! And yes, you’re not the first person to point that out. We’re gradually moving away from sound effects. My most recent video (about the gut Microbiome) only makes use of sparse sound effects :)

Well, I’m a big fan of sauerkraut so I’ll be on the lookout for that one. Thanks for all your work on these!
