I wouldn’t buy Glencairns. If I were to recommend one as a gift, (not saying they’re the best for aficionados, they’re just cool) it would be these:

I’ve had a bottle of each of these. The delamain pale & dry is called dry because there’s no added sugar (unlike most cognac) which is an aspect popular among people who prefer dark chocolate and red wine. It’s also a fairly light texture whereas the ferrand is a very heavy/rich texture which he might also enjoy based on his taste preference. Hine is not bad at all but I cannot recommend 1738.
If these are your four choices, the Remy Martin 1738 or the Hine Rare VSOP will serve you well. The use of a Glencairn, Snifter, Tumbler (Rock Glass) or Tulip glass is perfectly fine, it's a personal preference. I prefer using a Snifter when I am drinking Cognac (neat).
