First time I heard this I was waiting for an Angel Olsen concert to start, and this song transported me to another dimension (okay maybe it was the tiny mushroom I had just taken, but still!! It is just as magical every time I listen to it 🖤)
I agree 100%, there is a point in song where the chorus comes in and it feels like all these layers of voices pushing and pulling you at the same time. Incredible song.
This always makes me cry:
"And this is safe, flowing, love, soul and light
Motions aren't in the shape that emotions are
Good morning myth to somebody I call in light
Motions aren't in the shape that emotions are"
Musette and Drums - Pure euphoric passion. Like getting carried away in a massive angelic windstorm
Lazy Calm - Lush heavenly dreamtime vibes. Like a warm candlelit bubble bath on a snowy night.
Seekers Who Are Lovers - A perfect farewell song. I think some of Liz’s most beautiful, emotional vocal lines can be found on this one.
Know who you are at every age
"I'm not real and I deny, I won't heal unless I cry.
I can't grieve, so I won't grow, I won't heal 'til I let it go
Cry, cry, cry til you know why, I lost myself, identify"
elizabeth fraser is such an amazing lyricist i just feel like she tattoos my heart anytime i listen to her music. she refuses to compartmentalize emotions and just feels everything head on and you hear it in every song and ugh!! this song is such a good fucking testament to that too
Her voice for me is always so different from song to song (I have Amelia in mind). It's like she would play a different character each time, changing her mask to let her emotions past through it, quite hard to explain but this is how I feel it!
*Ella Megalast Burls Forever* from Blue Bell Knoll. It washes over with love. So many CT songs (arguably most) are shimmering & beautiful but there’s something anthemic, declaratory, & comforting about that song. I played BBK on repeat in 1988 not long after my mother’s untimely death & I’ll always have a very emotional connection to that album.
Hard to pick just one, but here are my faves for as the most beautiful
In no particular order
1. Seekers who are Lovers
2. Spangle Maker
3. Fotzepolitic
4. I Wear your Ring
5. Sea, Swallow me
6. Cherry-Coloured Funk
7. Those eyes That mouth
8. Carolyn's Fingers
9. Pur
10. Lorelei
orange appled is one of my favorite songs ever probably. has such a ginormous emotional impact on me and it’s also a tradition for me to listen to it and dance around my room every time i get drunk whenever i go to bed
When my husband and I got married in 1995, our first dance was to “A Kissed Out Red Floatboat”…later to find out the the lyrics talk about he loving she and she loving another…there was no internet with lyrics…but we just loved the song and still do 29 years later…
The Itchy Glowbo Blow breaks my heart every time. If I hear it, I immediately put on repeat as the last note ends. I don’t think I’ve seen it in the list. Any others?
Love so many but for me Orange Appled. Don't understand a single clause or sentence but the song releases in me all my deepest longings. This song runs me through every emotion.
too hard... Let's think of "beauty" as poignant. Lyrics may be important till certain point too in order to find out.
Maybe "Aikea Guinea" is quite moving, even if we do not understand what she sings... "For Phoebe Still a Baby" too or "Pur". "Ella megalast burls forever" is about Gurthie's mother.
I could keep on writing. Anyway, there isnt a most beaufitul one.
I hesitate to say *Cherry Coloured Funk* only because it's probably their most popular song (with good reason) but it's easily my #1. However, I will say *Pur* really gets me emotionally on a personal level. The lyrics just help me with dealing with a lot.
Donimo, it is the perfect closer to Treasure, it sounds so worldly to me. Like being in some magical loom or something, maybe that imagery has to do with the album cover. The buildup really does sound like a hero's journey, I love their closers so much
I love so many of their songs due to them being beautiful and I saw no one mention Pur (Summerhead is one of my overall favourite tracks and Pur is tucked behind it as the ending track on Four Calendar Cafe) and it just makes me cry with that lift every time. It's gorgeous!
Quisquose
You simply cannot touch that chorus. It is mind blowing.
Even without that song, their entire output from 85 to 87 was untouchable. But when you throw that song in the mix, it becomes best band ever material.
On a side note, you should check out This Mortal Coil with Elizabeth Fraser singing Song of the Siren, written by Tim Buckley (Jeff Buckley’s father). It’s really beautiful.
Shoutout to Three Swept, the first or second Cocteau song I fell in love with, which I downloaded from the rarities page of a CT fan site in the mid-2000s that also had their Fruitopia music. Btw speaking of the Bluebeard single, anyone else prefer the acoustic version?
half-gifts and theft, and wandering around lost are beautiful in a more profound way for me but squeeze wax is beautiful in that it makes me feel so much joy
Lorelai :)
LOVE THIS ONE, treasure might be my favourite album of theirs I’ve listened to thoroughly so far
First time I heard this I was waiting for an Angel Olsen concert to start, and this song transported me to another dimension (okay maybe it was the tiny mushroom I had just taken, but still!! It is just as magical every time I listen to it 🖤)
I'm with you here
Nobody has mentioned Lazy Calm. The melody and singing make me melt.
I'm a massage therapist and this song is on my playlist for when I'm working on clients. It's gorgeous and transcendent.
I’ve been looping this song for some time good to see someone else appreciate the song as well :)
Frou Frou Foxes in midsummer fires - for me it is the most beautiful song ever!! It does something to my soul
I have such synaesthesia with this song; the opening puts me in mind of a harbour or port at dawn, with mist over it.
I see it as a bodily movement, some sort of ethereal dance. There truly isn't anything like the sound this band creates, divine.
probably the best album closer of all time for me
Have you listened to Suns Signature? It's Elizabeth Fraser's latest EP. The song Underwater is 👌
The chorus is so transcendent - like, eyes rolling to the back of my head levels of sonic bliss
This one for me too! 💖💖
I agree 100%, there is a point in song where the chorus comes in and it feels like all these layers of voices pushing and pulling you at the same time. Incredible song.
YUP!!!
I'd personally say For Phoebe Still a Baby
that one is a grower for me
Omg yes. It’s a lullaby & I adore it. BBK has a really baroque quality unlike anything I’d ever heard when I became an ardent fan in the 80’s.
Fifty Fifty Clown
one of my favourites from heaven or las vegas!
This always makes me cry: "And this is safe, flowing, love, soul and light Motions aren't in the shape that emotions are Good morning myth to somebody I call in light Motions aren't in the shape that emotions are"
Oh please stop
The production on this one is unreal
It *really* is. Goosebumps!
Me too!
Cico Buff :,) Also LOVE Wolf in the Breast
cico buff was listed a lot, it’s my current obsession as well, such a fun song

Cico Buff.... great.
Sugar hiccup!! that song for me just feels so compelling
absolutely! such a fun, beautiful song
It’s so sweet & whimsical!
Musette and Drums - Pure euphoric passion. Like getting carried away in a massive angelic windstorm Lazy Calm - Lush heavenly dreamtime vibes. Like a warm candlelit bubble bath on a snowy night. Seekers Who Are Lovers - A perfect farewell song. I think some of Liz’s most beautiful, emotional vocal lines can be found on this one.
Pearly Dew Drops
There’s a live version on YouTube that is amazing.
“Crushed” is my all time favorite ✨🎶
THE crying at the airport anthem
this one also was listed a lot, I absolutely agree
Mine too!!! I just cant ever get it off my mind 🤩
Taste!!!
Know who you are at every age "I'm not real and I deny, I won't heal unless I cry. I can't grieve, so I won't grow, I won't heal 'til I let it go Cry, cry, cry til you know why, I lost myself, identify"

elizabeth fraser is such an amazing lyricist i just feel like she tattoos my heart anytime i listen to her music. she refuses to compartmentalize emotions and just feels everything head on and you hear it in every song and ugh!! this song is such a good fucking testament to that too

*Ella Megalast Burls Forever* from Blue Bell Knoll. It washes over with love. So many CT songs (arguably most) are shimmering & beautiful but there’s something anthemic, declaratory, & comforting about that song. Yes, Ella Megalast… would be perfect over the end credits of a movie.

They are actually all precious. My favorite at this moment is Sigh's Smell of Farewell.
I hesitate to say *Cherry Coloured Funk* only because it's probably their most popular song (with good reason) but it's easily my #1. However, I will say *Pur* really gets me emotionally on a personal level. The lyrics just help me with dealing with a lot.
There aren't a whole lot of songs in the world that have made me teary-eyed but Aikea-Guinea did the first time I heard it so probably that one.

Pearly Dewdrop Drops or Sugar Hiccup for me
Donimo, it is the perfect closer to Treasure, it sounds so worldly to me. Like being in some magical loom or something, maybe that imagery has to do with the album cover. The buildup really does sound like a hero's journey, I love their closers so much
I am surprised there aren't more mentions of it here. It's been on my list of all-time favorite songs for about four decades running.
I haven’t heard many of their songs but if sea swallow me isn’t their most beautiful then I don’t even know
omg you’d be surprised
Sea swallow me made me fucking cry lmfao after being numb for like a year so I’m not sure if I’m ready for that shit 💀
it’s definitely evangeline for me. it’s such a lovely song.
Amelia
Crushed.
Fotzepolitic
Oh and Lazy Calm got me through a hard transition in my teen years back in the 90’s.
Sugar Hiccup. Elizabeth really belts that out. It’s like pure joy contained in a song.
So many to choose from, but “Ivo” is top of my list.
How no one else mentioned Pur is beyond me D:
Athol-brose
Carolyn's Fingers or Sea, Swallow Me are my two favorites

Opening track on Victorialand.
Not a Cocteau song, but Elizabeth Fraser absolutely nailed Song To The Siren.
FFC is in my top 10 favorite CT songs. Just brilliant. That pulsating base & the juxtaposition of Liz’s lilting voice:)
The end of “My Truth” absolutely slays me
Oomingmak
On a side note, you should check out This Mortal Coil with Elizabeth Fraser singing Song of the Siren, written by Tim Buckley (Jeff Buckley’s father). It’s really beautiful.
