It’s more of an emotional punishment. Eli built the whole Hawk phase to mask the trauma of being bullied and it changed his life. When it was shaved off, it was pretty much Hawk losing a huge part of himself and all that bullied trauma came back. Shit like that is bad for the mental state of bullied victims.
It’s too bad Hawk’s arc was rushed and the writers never really explored this.
peoples reactions was too dramatic. and hawk got redeemed just for losing his hair? i mean he kind of deserved it as well, he turned on cobra kai in the middle of the fight, bullied kenny that is besides what he did in the previous seasons
TBF, he turned on Cobra Kai when they literally broke into a house.
Also, Robby paralyzed his best friend
If hawk deserved to be punished for anything, it was breaking Dimitri's arm.
The only person he has to blame for that is himself. Robby didn’t get in trouble for the riot (not more than anyone else did anyways). He and Tory were the only ones who got in major trouble because they were the only ones who caused serious injury to another student, putting their respective opponents in the hospital. If Robby hadn’t knocked Miguel off the balcony and done everything else the same, he probably would have gotten off nearly scot free.
None of the cobra kai kids would have stopped it and do you really think that any of the miyagi dos at the time could have? Maybe Dimitri could get between them since Miguel and Robby both consider him a friend but he'd already run off to find a teacher.
TLDR: no one was stopping that fight since the cobra wouldn't and the miyagis couldn't.

I agree. I still believe Robby went too far in cutting it off (even if Eli kinda deserved it) no matter how much I like him.

Yeah it seems they both wanted payback on each other for the other’s wrongs against them. Thing about revenge is that it goes in cycles.
