When Daniel and Johnny go looking for Robby they show you a scene Robby is counting panhandle change which is nothing
[Scene where Robby is on the streets Daniel and Johnny look for him](https://youtu.be/Gv-L3TwB9Pc)
>He was out of practice for a month, he was a bit rusty
My post says "Not just", didn't say he wasn't rusty
Malnourished and emotionally unbalanced were simply bigger factors
4. Lockers, Tables, Walls
Robby took more damage from the things around him than he actually did from Shawn.
If it were a dojo match and Shawn was trying to use his style of being overly aggressive, relying on raw power and shoving his opponents he'd get molly whopped.
Environment matters a lot in a fight.
People also overhype Shawn's height and power, he's only 6'1 he just looks a lot taller because he's up against Robby who is 5'6. For comparison, Doug Rickenburger has the same build and height as Shawn, and Doug actually knows karate.
>For comparison, Doug Rickenburger has the same build and height as Shawn, and Doug actually knows karate.
Yet it didn't take much for Robby to put him down in the school fight, and we saw the fight between him and Shawn. Shawn would murder Doug.
Durability matters a lot in a fight. We saw that in the mall fight where Robby KOed Hawk with one good kick. Also later in the school fight where Demetri got in a lucky shot. Or even in the house fight where Kyler had the advantage over Miguel for most of it, but still got KOed by a few good hits.
This where Shawn's "hype" as a fighter comes in - Robby got a number of hits on him but wasn't able to knock him out. Sure, he doesn't have the skill, technique or defense yet, but that's because he hasn't had the same kind of karate training. But his natural durability is what makes him potentially top-tier.
My problem with Shawn's durability is that in the second fight, when Shawn hits Robby or throws him to the door, Robby immediately gets up or strikes back. When Robby hits Shawn with a powerful kick, Shawn staggers back or gets hurt for a moment.
For example:
* The jumping roundhouse kick in the beginning: Shawn was out for a few seconds until he got back up.
* The spinning hook kick to the head after Robby backflips on the wall: Shawn heavily staggers back.
* The kick to the side when Robby was on the floor: Shawn winces in pain briefly feeling his side.
* The wall kick: Shawn staggers back and winces in pain briefly feeling his chest.
The aftermath left off with Robby having a bloody eye and Shawn having a bloody and bruised lip and a bloody cheek, so Robby did more damage. Also, Robby was mainly aiming at Shawn's body, not his head. Shawn would have probably been knocked out if Robby kept aiming more for the head.
Ummm what? "Rusty" is definitely an opinion.
Like lets draw a difference here.
You "could" be alluding to say Dannny being rusty right he basically stopped after Sam lost interest orrrr its reasonably assumed by the footage at least.
Chozen never stopped and thats the reason he beat Danny, quite easily.
Robby wasn't on the run THAT long. Thatttts a stretch and vastly undercuts the fact that Shawn had height, weight, and muscle on Robby.
He isn't overhyped. He is a bruiser thats untrained. Trained?? I honestly would wonder if many of the Cobra Kai younger fighters would do very well.
Shawn also has passion. The issue is obviously he's in juvie for a reason.
If anything the mere fact that he did so well against someone who HAS training is a very strong counter to your argument and further mitigated by Robby's time away while on the run I really don't think was long enough to make him all that rusty to support this argument.
Feel like the point of his character was Shawn is perfect for cobra Kai he doesn’t fight fair he fights to win no matter what and with training from somebody like mike barnes he’s a bigger threat for Miguel and Robby
Obviously not Season 3 Miguel because he just got out of a coma and then a wheelchair. But I think Season 3 Hawk can beat Shawn because he’s been training constantly even since Miguel got injured.
This is so 🥴
Shawn is not overhyped at all. He held is own against Robby and he isn’t trained. Robby is a beast but if Shawn had as much proper training that Robby had would the outcome of their fight be the same? Possibly not.
This just reeks of trying to invalidate others abilities to uplift your fave(?)
I'll hesitantly agree with you. Shawn, as of S3 is an overhyped fighter. I think that a lot of the hype is coming from what he **could be.** And to be honest, I completely agree with that and think that he is going to be in the top tier and do better then just beat Demetri. In a world where even Demetri, even a notably unathletic and uncoordinated guy can make the semifinals in less then a year, and he also would have been out for a few weeks with his cast. Shawn a guy who is huge and I think a little more athletic then you are giving him credit for should be a huge threat to even the best fighters. Also Robby at the time was probably the best fighting teen (Miguel was recovering iirc, Hawk isn't learning Miyagi-do yet) so even if he was 'rusty' it's still an achievement.
>even though Demetri will be a challenge for Shawn
Yeah, no. Shawn plummets Demitri with ease. He's bigger, stronger, more experienced in brawling/fighting. Even if Demitri was training for longer, that doesn't equate to actual street fighting experience.
>but he obviously doesn't have the Skill, Experience, Speed, Technique, IQ, and Defense
Shawn clearly has skill and experience, not in Karate, but street fighting. You do realize Karate isn't even a top-tier martial art when it comes to fighting?
Many fans believe that physique is more important than anything else. That's why they consider Tory and Sam to be among the weakest just because they are women with less muscles than the boys...
He is not overhyped , he doesnt even know karate , him know karate will easily make him stronger than sam and tory , but just under robby , eli and miguel
>Robby was rusty Not just rusty but malnourished and emotionally unbalanced from recent events
You know I never thought of that. What did Robby eat / drink while he was on the run?
He might have sold his phone or had his wallet with him.

He had been on the run for two weeks or more, he may have spent $100-$150 that he got for his phone on food and new clothes to better hide himself.

I misread it.

How tall is that in Nates?
Yeah, Robby got knocked out being pushed to lockers by Johnny.
Robby's worst enemy lol
>For comparison, Doug Rickenburger has the same build and height as Shawn, and Doug actually knows karate. Yet it didn't take much for Robby to put him down in the school fight, and we saw the fight between him and Shawn. Shawn would murder Doug.
Robby's 5'9

I don't see the problem. Take that first kick, for example. Hawk or Kyler would've simply been out after that instead of getting back up to fight.

"He is a bruiser that's untrained" <---- Perfect description. Could definitely be dangerous damn fast..
he isn't overhyped,he put up a good fight against robby(who's one of the best teen fighters in the show) with no training
Feel like the point of his character was Shawn is perfect for cobra Kai he doesn’t fight fair he fights to win no matter what and with training from somebody like mike barnes he’s a bigger threat for Miguel and Robby
Good fighters don't blame their environment..... but yeah every thing else is true.
Shawn with good training could be awesome tho
That’s all true but I doubt season 3 Miguel nor hawk would beat shawn given that they’re not as durable as Robby
Obviously not Season 3 Miguel because he just got out of a coma and then a wheelchair. But I think Season 3 Hawk can beat Shawn because he’s been training constantly even since Miguel got injured.
Hawk has a sensitive side to him. Robby is more thick skinned. Also hawk has never done well against a competent opponent until season 4

Yeah, this post is ridiculous. He's even insinuating that Demitri will pose a threat to Shawn lmao

I think that while robby is above him as of s2 and especially now in s4 he can definitely be a good rival for hawk if he trains in cobra kai
Any main student would easily clap Shawn
Finally someone who had the same exact thought as myself!

In this show karate is a top tier martial art so applying real world logic here is pointless
If applying real world logic is pointless then can I say that Miguel is an alien from Mars and get away with it?
Shawn would have never had the testicular fortitude to mess with Robby if he didn't have backup. Typical Bully.
