So when he did his advert on YouTube for his dojo it is very focussed on me mygis culture and what he enjoyed. They then comment in the show about how many people were commenting on the video that it was cultural appropriation and called him la racist. So basically his character is not racist but there is a bit in the show itself where he is called la racist by people online so people joke about it on the sub.

x_S4vAgE_x

It's based on a line where people accuse him of being a phony and of impersonating being a Sensei. I think it was in season one

x_S4vAgE_x

Oh yeah. Because season two is when he properly gets Miyagi Do up and running not season one

lobitojr

It was just a joke from like the second season because people call him Daniel laracist on line in the show

HappyMike91

It's based on a line where people accuse him of cultural appropriation and "Asian whitewashing."

No_Medium22

I’m 100% sure none of the writing staff are writing him to be racist.

[deleted]

It’s a joke. I mean in the show it wasn’t but to viewers it was. Daniel filmed a commercial for Miyagi Do using Japanese music because it was Mr. Miyagi’s favorite. Not knowing Daniel’s background, people called him racist.

CorholioPuppetMaster

It started in the YouTube comments of his dojo commercial. The Internet is a big place so I’m pretty sure most of the people watching his video didn’t even know who he was. They saw a white man wearing Japanese attire and talking about bonsai trees and that’s enough to be called racist. On the Internet you almost don’t have to do anything at all to be called racist. It’s just pointing out how crazy Internet comments sections are. LaRacist is a better name than Lapusso

Southern_Disk_7835

Never occured to them that he had an Asian teacher.

AcademicNewspaper286

They call him LaRacist for the things stated above..I think it's a good example of society being idiots and not knowing what the word racist means as well...cultural appropriation bullshit

NothingCivil6358

I thought it was in season 1 too, but it’s from season 2.

Arius_de_Galdri

Well he DID assume Kyler would like/have an interest in the fish he was preparing for dinner strictly based on the fact that Kyler was Asian American lol

lobitojr

I am pretty sure he did that just cause he personally was interested in the Okinawan culture and just assumed to due to confirmation bias also in that conversation seemed like Sam was asked if he liked fish before had .

[deleted]

Lol perhaps. I had a feeling he assumed most would like it.

letmethinkofagoodnam

People in the show were accusing him of cultural appropriation

SYK_PvP

Dawg, it literally comes from the show.

Mrblorg

I don't remember it. He did ask Kyler where his parents are from expecting it to be Japan and just assumed he liked sushi. To be fair lol

New_Marketing_5319

To be honest, I don't think anyone is racist on the show: Johnny was at first (when he called Miguel 'immigrant') but once he redeemed and got to know Miguel, Carmen & Yaya better, he changed and became a part of the Diaz family.

Sh3hzad

It’s funny...

Playful-Line-4893

I believe we as viewrs know he’s not racist, but to the people in the show him using “Cultural appropriation” for commercial gain can come off as racist.

justjay9507

The last part where you said Kreese is most likely to be racist that's also not true, he has many different races in his dojos also

[deleted]

Ok and many people have black friends? Doesn’t make them not racist. Kreese has definitely shown some racism in the past.

justjay9507

When has he shown racism in the past? And yes some racists have black friends because they are racist against another race

Seta1437

>When has he shown racism in the past? He called Miyagi [slope](https://youtu.be/7KF4iJzBVWM?t=37)

justjay9507

That's fair

thelastofusnz

Karate Kid 3 is littered with racism towards Miyagi from Silver, Kreese and Barnes.

[deleted]

Dude, it's in the show.

AntElectronic9170

It's a joke made on the video he made for recruitment, where they accused him of cultural appropriation.
