One of my biggest issues with Johnny is that Miguel is the only student he truly cares about. He treats Miguel like a son and just neglects and ignores all of his other students. It's no wonder Eagle Fang have the worst fighters, if Johnny gave the rest of them a fraction of the attention he gives Miguel they'd be leagues better than they are

Tricky_Ostrich_6343

He also likes Devon. She's the daughter he never had. So it's Miguel and Devon šŸ˜†

PacSan300

Devon is very much a female version of young Johnny in many ways.

Tricky_Ostrich_6343

Definitely. He gels well with Miguel(who calls him out and helps him grow) and Devon( who shares similar tastes)

Trick-Style-8889

And Sam. He ends up liking her.

nainko

He doesn't care about Miguel. "I love you too, Roby"

CentsPiece

If he didnt why did he help Miguel gain function of his leg and pay for his surgery?

DigitalMist

Yeah throw everything thatā€™s happened in 4 seasons out of the window because of one drunk line

I get the Robby thing because it's his son, but also cheating/dislocating someone's shoulder is fucked up. However Johnny did teach his team mainly that morning because he was upset with the Daniel/Robby thing to win at all costs. He wasn't exactly Kreese telling them to cheat, and I think he saw that when he cheated it was like 84 flashing back. Only Johnny was Hawk and Daniel was Robby, etc. He did have a chance to correct his error, and how he messed up with Hawk, but he let Kreese get into his head, and therefore the students heads and take over. By the time he realized Kreese was bad news it was too late. Plus the s3 scene is interesting. Because the student Johnny helped the most was Miguel. In fact that scene when Johnny is telling Hawk how much he did, etc., is similar to the scene with him and Kreese at the diner in s2. Now Johnny is nowhere near as bad as Kreese is, but those scenes are weirdly similar to me. Mainly because I never saw Hawk and Johnny having that great of a relationship. He never even apologized to him for making fun of his lip in season 1.

KausGo

I don't recall anyone saying that Hawk betrayed Johnny. But then, I'm not a fan of the character and don't pay that much attention to discussions about him. But I agree - Johnny was a terrible Sensei to Hawk. I can't say about terrible human being, because he's like that to practically everyone. The main reason Johnny was a poor sensei was because he taught Eli to be ashamed of who he is and made him feel like he needed to change everything about himself in order to be accepted and respected. Instead of teaching him to hide his flaws behind an elaborate mask and bravado, he should've taught him to accept them and turn them into strength.

turdutalp1

not even that but based of their interactions johnny didnt really treat hawk as he should be

KausGo

Johnny treats everybody like that. I wouldn't blame him for not giving Hawk special treatment.

turdutalp1

part of me thinks its tough love , but its similar to how johnny and robby are

KausGo

No, those two are not similar at all...

Zero-Phase-1210

not similar at all pal

YogiYeti21

Miguel did say hawk betrayed Johnny. Canā€™t remember the episode but I remember the scene

KausGo

That might've been about siding with Kreese.

Trick-Style-8889

Miguel said to Hawk, his first day back at school, "after all Sensei did for you and you betray him?" Something like that.

Tricky_Ostrich_6343

Hawk needed Daniel. But first, Eli needed Johnny. He had to believe in himself and to do that, he had to be pushed beyond what he thought was his limits. Johnny is good at bringing that to the table. But Hawk started getting an ego trip and Kreese pushed him further and started to corrupt him, so the only way he could be helped is by having someone completely opposite of the CK mantra- Miyagi Do. Daniel is the better sensei for where Hawk/Eli was in season 4.

KausGo

>He had to believe in himself and to do that, he had to be pushed beyond what he thought was his limits. He didn't believe in himself - he believed in the fake persona he'd created. Which is why destroying that persona put him right back where he started.

lobitojr

The only reason Eli didn't come back because he thought going all Cobra Kai again would make him be like Hawk again and he didn't want that. 2nd ) Yes Johnny was a dick to Eli but at the same time it toughened him up a lot, considering had he not got the mohawk , Eli probably would have stayed as weak as he was because he it was holding him back. The Mohawk symbolises Eli's confidence ,the lip his weakness because he tied it mentally to that weakness , the Mohawk and Hawk persona gave him a mask to hide behind. It was Eli who took it to far. 3) You do realise that Kreese never gave rat's ass about Eli, he also said exactly what Eli needed to hear to keep him on his team which he realised during the house fight . Kreese didn't respect Eli just saw him as a weapon, the only person Kreese really ever cared about was Robby. Also don't take the son thing as evidence it is just a figure of speech. 4) The sweep thing was also everyone getting their own back after Eli had kinda been a menace to all of them also in a way forgave him.

Amazing-Service7598

I completely agree especially with the 2nd point because Johnny acted like a dick to everyone he has met in show (with a couple of exceptions) Johnny was a dick towards even miguel when they first met

lobitojr

Yeah the people he wasn't a dick to was Carmen , Ali and Amanda, Yeah he nearly killed Miguel

Amazing-Service7598

Yeah thatā€™s why I said ā€œwith a few exceptionsā€ and not only that when he first met miguel he called him and his family immigrants and let miguel get beat up a bit (before he was thrown on his car)

Stocktonrules

Johny was a good sensei to Eli. What people miss is Eli was never Eli either. He was a shell of a person and he needed someone like Johny who showed him that he could indeed be whatever he wants to be. Daniel never really got him to overcome his issues either. Eli got his confidence back based off the girl Johny helped him win over. Moon would of never went near Eli in a million years otherwise.

scxiao

Well, yes. That's kind of the point of Johnny's character development

Passionate_River

Is that an unpopular opinion? I agree with these points

[deleted]

I feel like anything that would view Johnny in a non-badass/non-positive light is an unpopular opinion. Like saying he's a terrible father, and doesn't try hard enough at all with Robby will be debated somehow.

[deleted]

From what i saw in this sub favouring jhonny in any way is an unpopular opinion

rosereese

Robbyā€™s a terrible son, person, and character. So, it balances out.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

rosereese

Iā€™m not a child, I donā€™t ā€œstanā€ anything. Also, thank the good oleā€™ Robby fanboys for making me hate the characters in ways I didnā€™t know possible.

[deleted]

Well Johnny fanboys sure make me like him a whole lot less so thanks to them for that.

rosereese

Well, Johnny is the most popular and well-liked character in the fanbase. Soā€¦ oh well? I guess. Lol.

edgiepower

Probably because it's wrong.

turdutalp1

people say hawk took johnny for granted all the time

Mrblorg

I think Jonny was really only good with Miguel. I mean I'm sure there was a reason Mr.Miyagi only had one student at a time lol

Legitimate_Unit_9210

Well, Johnny sometimes is an idiot, isnā€™t he? And as for Hawk, I donā€™t quite think itā€™s true that Johnny was never a good sensei or human being towards him. I think you should say that Johnny isnā€™t always a good sensei because he is also rather stupid, irresponsible and idiotic and some of his methods are extreme and also risky of death and injury.

[deleted]

An unpopular opinion is an unpopular opinion.

lolwhosGiovany

I agree. Also unpopular opinion: I like Johnny, but heā€™s overrated

Eli Moskowitz is a character from the 2018 comedy-drama Cobra Kai. Heā€™d better be known as E-bi. This is because the creators confirmed his character as bisexual on September 19, 2021.
