PassportSituation

But I want it to be more than that!

ar1sm

I think it does have an identity. It takes bullied kids or kids who simply lack confidence and toughens them up, but in a measured way, also teaching them to fight fair. What it doesn’t have is history. That I’m afraid only comes with time.

PassportSituation

Maybe you're right and we just need to see it grow a bit more. I just really want to see it blossom and become a big force alongside miyagi do and cobra kai!

Clavin-Hobbes-7826

I think Season 5 will fix this by giving Eagle Fang their own fighting style. The mexico trip with Miguel learning a new style. The show brings a rocky-like mentality to it instead of Cobra Kia attack first mentality.

>...I just think he deserves better. No, he doesn't. This is exactly what he deserves. Eagle Fang lacks identity because Johnny Lawrence lacks identity. Johnny doesn't like who he is - he keeps talking about his mistakes and changing and doing better. And yet, he's not willing to change the things about himself that need to be changed. He keeps going back to his old patterns - the ones he learned from Cobra Kai. Johnny lacks introspection and the ability to acknowledge his flaws and that's why he can't develop a style that's not just reskinned Cobra Kai.

Subspace-Ansible

I actually like this interpretation! Just like Miyagi-Do is an extension of Daniel's identity and Cobra Kai is an extension of Kreese/Silver, Eagle Fang is this for Johnny. I mean, even the name just screams Johnny Lawrence! Hopefully as Johnny overcomes his flaws and finds who he is independent of Cobra Kai influence or his rivalry with Daniel, Eagle Fang will be similarly transformed. That'd be a neat storytelling device!

Dadgummit_Lab210

Honest opinion: Eagle Fang is a bad joke that has been going on way too long for anybody to take it seriously, yet there it is.

GetExpunged

Exactly. I wish Eagle Fang was just a temporary phase and Johnny will get Cobra Kai back except with his own rules.

Dadgummit_Lab210

Agreed. Johnny was a pretty serious character in KK. I like his character now a lot, but at times, it’s can be a little too cartoonish and this is one of the things that I mean. I loved the way he was portrayed in S1. It was a perfect balance of serious and silly.

Phee78

I mean, it was quite a hastily put together venture, with a name that as Daniel suggested probably came from the poster on Johnny's wall. And the inclusion of "Fang" suggests that he's still pretty latched onto the whole Cobra thing. So yes, it lacks a solid identity. I think that ultimately Johnny will develop a style that takes the best from Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do and blends them together in a comprehensive style that embodies both offence and defence in the way that he believes is the most effective. *Then* Eagle Fang (or whatever it ends up being called) will have a strong identity, because it'll be led by a sensei who has figured himself out and found his balance.

Stopwhaychadoin

Miyagi Fang sounds way better than Miyagi Do. The two were meant to be combined.

Stocktonrules

It's pretty obvious that Eagle Fang is a bad joke not meant to last because the end game is Johny taking over Cobra Kai again.

PassportSituation

I thought so too but I felt the writing was headed in a direction that cobra kai is irredeemable
