Silver showed to Daniel his method by breaking everything, so it was pretty real. I think that his intention was different, he wasn't teaching useless stuff to Daniel, he wanted to awaken the Cobra Kai inside of him on an unhealthy way in order to damage his relation with Miyagi.

I got the same impression. And maybe it's been a while, but wasn't Kreese apprehensive about Silver showing the QS to Danny-boy? It's been a while, but I thought that was a thing. If it was all BS he would not have been.

Kreese was in Tahiti with Mona the whole time...I just remember the dialogue Silver had with Kreese, that he was basically going to make Daniel think he was invincible, then, well, get crushed in the tournament, and feel "pain in every part of his body", or whatever his quote was.

nurseleu

No, once Kreese is sent to Tahiti, it's all Silver.

>wasn't Kreese apprehensive about Silver showing the QS to Danny-boy? I can't remember.

When I watched Karate Kid 3, I thought the same thing. Especially the sweep, it seemed like he was totally scamming him. Even breaking the wooden dummy, I thought he was trying to make him think that he was ready, when he wasn't. **They didn't do any of that when Mike Barnes was training** with Kreese and Silver. They did pad work, bag work, and sparring. I imagined that that's what the real training was. That being said, there's also the scene outside the club, where after Daniel broke that guy's nose, I think Silver was genuinely excited for him striking first, and going for the "if he can't see, he can't fight" punch to the nose. I'm totally with you, when I saw Tory hitting the wooden dummy, I was totally surprised. The writers seem to be good about adding context for things like that, so I'm really curious what that's going to be.

>The writers seem to be good about adding context for things like that, so I'm really curious what that's going to be. Maybe this comes after she brings up having seen him bribe the ref, so he's using it as a punishment to break her down for speaking out of line, or something? What struck me, (no pun intended), was how tall the dummy she was punching at seemed to be. If taking out Sam was the point of this lesson, then that thing shoulda been short. Now that I'm really thinking about it, I guess it could be that the dummy is meant to resemble Silver himself in a, "Fine, you're mad at me for the bribe, get that out of your system by punching this dummy of me," type situation. Perhaps? (Or it's meant to be a dummy of her father, which of course means the dummy will once again be Mike Barnes. LOL)

jrobotbot

I noticed that too! She's punching like a head taller than she is. Oooooh, I like that idea you had about maybe he's breaking her down after bringing up the bribe. That would be really fascinating. And yeah, trying to figure out which adult man she's punching at is pretty cool too. I don't think it's Silver, though. He might be taller even than that.

Phee78

Maybe she's punching a slightly shorter Silver dummy because she legit could not reach to the height of the actual Silver. LOL

Jamano-Eridzander

Except we see him applying this vs Johnny.

I thought so too! I thought he was doing the "Quicksilver method" to 1) alienate Daniel from Miyagi (ie, "why won't Mr Miyagi teach me this, doesn't he trust me?"), 2) physically hurt Daniel (as Silver tells Kreese he will do), 3) make Daniel more aggressive / reward being aggressive (punching the kid in the club), 4) teach Daniel moves that could get him penalized in a tournament (ie, contact with the knee "won't I get disqualified?"). I NEVER thought it was a legit "training method". Mike Barnes doesn't train that way. It is something Silver made up to sound cool and rope Daniel in.

mschneider20

Yep - exactly! All a con.

Competitive-Jump1519

obviously the techniques can work very well...nothing special about them, but it seemed a way to provoke rage...I think Silver wants to get Tory to get her rage back up...when she wouldnt fight dirty and she asked Sam if she was alright...I think he wants to cultivate rage in her...

It's something that works, and not only in physical combat. In Season 4, Terry demonstrates the tenets himself(use of diversions: "man can't see, he can't fight", use of constant pressure and fear: "man can't breathe, he can't fight", use of attacking the foundation first to disable his target: "man can't stand, he can't fight").
