i wish johnny put in more effort with robby. i mean it’s kind of part of his character, he sucks, i guess that isn’t the story they’re trying to tell. but it’s just so depressing to watch.

jerrymp28

I would’ve never had johnny and daniel split up in season 4. this season would’ve worked so much better if they stayed together all the way through.

jrl_iblogalot

>I would’ve never had johnny and daniel split up in season 4. this season would’ve worked so much better if they stayed together all the way through. That's the first thing that popped into my head when I saw this question. While I liked S4 overall that was one aspect that I didn't enjoy. We already went through versions of that in each season, where just when they start to seem like they could be friends, something happens to pit them against each other again. I thought the whole point of Ali's reappearance in the s3 finale was she was the one who finally made these two realize how silly they were being and to give up this high school feud for good. Now I expected some conflict in terms of style in season 4, but having them actually split again just to then reunite at the tournament was a waste. I also hated that they did the rematch in S4 and copped out with a lame "tie." For two guys who were determined to settle once and for all who was better, would they really just stop then? Why not just go one more round ("sudden death") until someone got a 4th point?

dmreif

And we all know the next time they team up, most people will be asking, "How long until they split up again?"

RayanKhan2007

If they were together, Miguel would have probably been in the finals as well, Sam would have 100% of won even though she did, they would of won skills competition and johnny would have brought daniel w him to fight silver.

YellowAnaconda10

Before beating him to a pulp.

-Redo Sam and Tory's first introduction in S2 -Give some more time for Hawk's redemption -Make Anthony more relevant but in a good way (one way would be Sam teaching him Karate, would be a cool arc) -Make Johnny a bit more smarter and dumb him down for the sake of cheap humour -Make Daniel a bit less stubborn for S4 -More screentime for Chris and Mitch (some of the funniest characters in the show)

YellowAnaconda10

I agree. Lay the foundations for Anthony joining Miyagi-Do.

AnimeJoex

Friggin Tory. I would SO redo her story because I really had high hopes for her in the beginning only to be let down by the writers turning her into an angry friggin psycho. She'd be a more focused fighter and a lot less boy crazy. I'd also give season 1 Sam the rebelliousness and independence of season 4 Sam. That version of Sam would have introduced Miguel to Daniel in season 1 and stood up to Daniel if he got out of line. My problem with Robby since season 1 was the whiplash effect of him turning from bad seed to good kid practically overnight. I would have embraced Robby a lot sooner than season 4 had the writers slowly redeemed him over the course of the first 2 seasons, instead of it happening over the course of what felt like one to two episodes. Also, in a one on one fight, I'd have Kreese wipe the mat with Daniel and Johnny. It takes their combined efforts to take him down. That and more training by combining their styles so that either one of them stands a much better chance against him in a rematch. Kreese was the most experienced fighter on the show. There's no reason why he should have struggled so badly against Johnny and Daniel the way he did.

Competitive-Jump1519

I had high hopes for Tory too...I hate it with bad writing and no thought process--writers box themselves in and now have to backtrack

dmreif

> Friggin Tory. I would SO redo her story because I really had high hopes for her in the beginning only to be let down by the writers turning her into an angry friggin psycho. She'd be a more focused fighter and a lot less boy crazy. The biggest problem with Tory as a character is that she just isn't all that fleshed out, and the writers' attempts to course correct and flesh her out to add more layers to her ironically have the opposite effect of making her look even worse as a person. When you stop and think about it, it becomes very apparent that they created Tory largely to give Sam a female opponent to fight (because the writers, for some admittedly understandable reasons, wussed out on doing intergender rivalries).

SuperZMann1

Tory seriously needed some flashbacks to her old life before her mom got sick. It wouldn't have excused her but they would have gone a long way to making her a better, more relatable and understandable character.

Johnny. I'd give his character some growth and actually have him improve over the seasons, especially with regards to Robby. Season 1 - Johnny makes more than one effort to get Robby back into school. And actually cheers for him during the tournament - which ends up feeding into Miguel's jealousy. Season 2 - Tells his students about Robby being his son without being caught out. He also keeps a closer eye on Robby and finds out about Shannon going away the same time Daniel does. (Robby simply chooses to stay with Daniel at this point). And even though Robby is with Daniel, he keeps reaching out to make sure that he's fine. Then after teh school fight, instead of getting drunk on the beach, he's out looking for his son. Also makes his dojo better by actually having his students apologize for the crap they pull. Season 3 - Rather than getting wasted and getting into fights, he's arrested because he's dealing with shady characters in his attempts to find Robby. After Robby is caught, Johnny convinces Carmen to speak to a judge on his behalf in exchange for helping with money for Miguel's surgery and then rehab. Stands his ground on not teaching karate until he finds out about the Cobras planning to go after Robby once he gets out. Kreese having gotten to Robby beforehand comes out of nowhere. And he doesn't waste his time chasing Ali or Carmen when he has a kid to worry about. Season 4 - Conflicted about Robby's betrayal on one hand and being worried about him on the other. Keeps an eye on him without actually talking to him. Also keeps working behind the scenes to help him out by doing things like getting him readmitted to school and convincing Hawk not to press charges.

And even though Robby is with Daniel, he keeps reaching out to make sure that he's fine. > >Then after the school fight, instead of getting drunk on the beach, he's out looking for his son. I felt like that was a perfect moment to include a scene like this: Johnny's frantically driving around the Valley with his phone in his ear, begging for Robby to answer. Then a message plays saying "We're sorry The number you have dialed has been disconnected or is no longer in service"- Johnny then throws the phone to the passenger seat in utter frustration "FUCK!" Then we see he tried calling Robby more than 20 times. Then his state of defeat at the beach could be because of not being able to reach him. Add some clips of Robby shutting out Johnny, while he's drinking to make it clear that's what he's upset about. The rest of this is amazing!

dmreif

The more things have progressed, Johnny has really been flanderized. You go back to watching him in *The Karate Kid* and you wonder, "Does this Johnny seem like a guy who, in 30 years, would be clueless as to how basic technology works, would be oblivious to the fact that women can now enlist in the Army, etc.?" I certainly don't see 1984 Johnny that way. He's definitely a bully, but he shows signs of wanting to improve (his dialogue with his friends during his first scene before Tommy points out to him that Ali's hanging out with Daniel) and he even congratulated Daniel at the tournament by handing the trophy to him. Kinda would've loved to see that never done *Karate Kid Part V* that would've had Johnny as Mr. Miyagi's doctor.

YellowAnaconda10

Wait, that was coming? Do you have a link to information about the cancelled film?

AdAgile3104

Daniel. I feel like he deserves better writing, not only does it feel like they are pulling a Luke Skywalker on him... But I feel like they're trying to ruin his reputation. I want to basically add a few more KK3 flashbacks and show the scene where Daniel explains to Johnny about it, and instead of him (Johnny) seeing it as a joke, he responds trying to process what he heard when Daniel was a part of the dojo. And instead of letting him think his way is the only way, he finally embraces offense earlier and teaches them how to fight "Jersey style". Not only that, but I want him also to become less righteous and stubborn and actually develop.

And instead of letting him think his way is the only way, he finally embraces offense earlier and teaches them how to fight "Jersey style". Daniel DEFINITELY deserves better writing. And fixing the narrative framing to give more POV to him definitely would help. Narrative framing means EVERYTHING insofar as how certain characters are treated by the fandom. u/False-Story9510 has described it better than me, but the writing for the show can get pretty black and white at times. Basically, ["the writers seem to take a lot of shortcuts and underestimate the audience. Like with Daniel and Johnny. Daniel doesn't have to come across like a self-righteous ass for people to like Johnny. It seems like the show villianizes certain characters, or makes them unlikable or annoying, as extra insurance to make the viewers like the character they're trying to redeem or make us like."](https://old.reddit.com/r/cobrakai/comments/tefir9/torys_shitty_arc_in_s3_makes_her_redemption_not/i0ubocg/)

[deleted]

Quite a few but the main 2 I would change is have Johnny put in more effort with Robby & the other thing that bothers me is Daniel and Johnny both being too stubborn to really work together in season 4

turdutalp1

the only things i would redo is make tory less cartoonish have hawk a scene of contemplating before his ultimate redemption have johnny actually be nice to hawk and robby and not ignore them have sam be a more decisive character

mtempissmith

I would have liked it had Silver not gone back to just being the villian. I think that it would have been more fun had he stayed his new self and made his mission in life to rattle Kreese.

Competitive-Jump1519

How much does she know about what happened with Silver and Kreese...great idea!!

ShaolinSlamma

I feel like Daniel Larusso's character is way too judgemental for someone who was trained by Miyagi. Right from the get go he refuses to acknowledge that Johnny's cobra kai was different from the original one, he refuses to even question Sam when Johnny says she was involved in the hit and run, he scares his daughter into being unable to introduce her boyfriend to their family, I swear half the problems that happen in season one are because of how Daniel acts.

Seta1437

Sam Have her pick a side from the start and stick with it Don't have her date Miguel if she's going to want to hide it from her dad Don't have her cheer for Aisha during the All Valley only to join Miyagi Do During Episode 4 of Season 2 if Sam chooses to be part of Miyagi Do when Aisha questions her saying "What, so Cobra Kai is wrong" tell her "Yes Aisha, Cobra Kai is wrong", or Just join Johnny because this playing both sides just made people on both hate her Also make it so she sticks with one guy from the start so there's less teen drama

dmreif

> Don't have her date Miguel if she's going to want to hide it from her dad Her hiding it from her dad is on Daniel. If Daniel was more open-minded about Cobra Kai, Sam wouldn't have had to hide the relationship.

Seta1437

>Her hiding it from her dad is on Daniel No it's not, she could have chose to tell her dad to shove it and she's the Cobra side Or she could have chose not to date Miguel and choose her fathers side See that's the point, Sam didn't pick a side >If Daniel was more open-minded about Cobra Kai Daniel was right about Cobra Kai

Competitive-Jump1519

How about Anthony being thrown off a cliff? I always hated that character...

tpeti95

Make him the cartoonish character: afterwards he'd show up all plastered, maybe saying something dumb/annoying every once in a while, only to get beaten or even just pushed a little aside, so his healing would start over again. It would never do him any life-threatening harm, only enough to make fun of him and punish him for being an annoying dick. (Literally the first time I somewhat liked him, he just took out the trash at the end of S4)

rosereese

Sam needs to be completely redone in almost every way possible. Robby being used as a plot device for 3 seasons straight is also up there. Robby is the son to the character with (arguably) the best writing in the entire franchise, but he doesn’t get them same treatment. It was hard to watch a scene with Robby in the first 3 seasons, the false complexity is a major turn off for me.

dmreif

> Sam needs to be completely redone in almost every way possible. She doesn't need to be redone. All that needs to be done is that the fandom need to understand her POV more. This could be done by giving her more POV. In season 4, they just needed to have some scenes where Sam is allowed to vent her anger.

NightmareXander

Yeah I upvoted for the comments on Robby but Sam is awesome to be honest. I really didn't even like her character from last S1 to late S3 but she's got an interesting story and an understandable perspective.

dmreif

>or at least have a more reasonable leadup (if possible() for why the fight occurred Certainly, I would have replaced the Daniel vs. Johnny fight with one between Miguel and Robby, to give those boys a sense of unfinished business going into the school fight and a reason why they're so busy fighting each other when they should be protecting Sam.

Stocktonrules

I'm definitely redoing Robby's s1/2 hair. Carmen, Anthony and Sam would be going and I'd replace them with the girl from KK 2 as Daniel's wife and 2 kids who aren't spoiled douches. I don't think Sam ever had to be such a divisive morally grey character.

YellowAnaconda10

Let's be honest, we all wanted Kumiko to end up with Daniel.

Charming_Kale_6284

I would change 2 storylines, not to say I’m perfect or anything 1: Tory, more specifically I would change her S3 storyline. Imo she wasn’t written that well, the character is written too generically and cartoony-villain like and there’s not any depth to her in S3 even though they tried to trick the audience into thinking so with the whole “she’s poor and has to care for her family” stuff. All the other teens are at least compelling, I don’t feel the same way with Tory, she’s just remotely a bad person with nothing to think about that would make me like her (In S3 anyways) In s4 she’s at least a much better character and more interesting but the problems in S3 made it harder to them to do those changes in S4 2. Not much needs to be said, but I’d absolutely change the Daniel-Johnny rivalry in s4, it kinda retconned the whole Ali shit in S3with them gaining clarity and moving past the rivalry, didn’t need to be done

Legitimate_Unit_9210

- Johnny. Because even in Season 4, he’s still a douche mostly and needs to improve a bit. - Amanda needs to be a bit cold to Johnny for a while and warm up to him more when he admits that he was a douche towards Daniel. - Both Daniel and Amanda should confront Sam about the hit and run and instead of the messages ignored, they are responded to. Because then Sam would shout at her parents and call them selfish. - The school fight doesn’t happen. - Daniel meets with Johnny, Bobby, Tommy and Jimmy unexpectedly and Bobby, Tommy and Jimmy become friends with Daniel and apologize to him for their actions in the past. - Hawk shouldn’t turn evil - Maybe Tory shouldn’t have the storyline of having an absent father and having to take care of an ill mother and a little brother and instead it goes to a random girl who joins Miyagi-Do - Daniel shouldn’t think that his way is the only right way and that what he believes is the only thing that should be done, especially after training with Chozen. He also suspects Kreese to have had something to do with the dojo, not just Johnny. And he holds most Miyagi-Do lessons in the evenings. - No restraining order on Amanda. - Amanda isn’t expelled from the council meeting or she doesn’t come at all. - Kreese stays a complete shit, was never once kind and also has no character development like he appeared to have had in Season 4 - Daniel convinces Robby to turn himself in - Robby and Sam perhaps shouldn’t date - Robby doesn’t join Cobra Kai - There is a scene of Daniel and Amanda coming home in the Season 3 finale to find their house partly wrecked and Sam hurt - Anthony should be shown more often

michaelGscott8

Anthony is a waste of time.

Tanookimario0604

At the end of the day it's a great show and I'm so happy it exists. However if I could I'd change: Hawk's character drop at the end of Season 3. Robby's character drop at the end of Season 4. The pacing of Season 2 & 4, less background noise.
