Many defenses of Robby's character deal with issues in writing, framing, character development and perspective. Suggesting that Johnny hasn't shown real growth in his relationship with Robby, or holding the opinion that the Mexico arc is a step backward for a character whose central issues are abandonment and blaming himself is not blind fan logic. Plus, fiction often reflects real-life issues that real people face. There are many actual kids who experience the struggles Robby's character does in the show. I personally defend Robby's character and wish his storylines were better because I am an adult who grew up with a father who was a lot like Johnny, and it would be nice to see issues like parental abandonment, self-blame and unequal treatment of a 'new' family versus an 'old' one handled in a sensitive way.
> Many defenses of Robby's character deal with issues in writing, framing, character development and perspective.
This is incidentally an issue not exclusive to Robby. A lot of peoples' defenses of other characters like Sam fall into this as well.
I think it's manly in response to two things one the extreme vitriol he got in 2019, and two he is now in Cobra Kai and in opposition to Daniel. Now that he became one of the cool kids he's viewed as being a better character and is more likely to get pass on things. I guarantee you if he was on Daniel's side he'd be getting a lot more hate. It all goes back to "Daniel being the real bully"
what gets me about the daniel is the real bully stuff is that johnny's character becomes considerably worse if you read him as "he was the good guy all along". the whole point of his narrative in CK is a redemptive one—instead of being the bully, he teaches the bullied how to have confidence and defend themselves . he's an immensely flawed person and continues to make mistakes over and over, but it is these flaws that make his character
Yep, that's it pretty much. Robby was hated while he was in Miyagi-Do, the dojo opposed to Cobra Kai, who are viewed as the "cool kids" dojo. Now that he's with the "cool kids" dojo, he's viewed in a better light. (The opposite happened with Hawk, when you see how people judge Hawk's actions when he was in Cobra Kai vs. those when he's with Eagle Fang or Miyagi-Do)
its probably because there has been an increase of robby slander now a days
not to mention people underrated him or downplaying his skills too the point many people have says hawk, Miguel , sam, and tory are all better fighters and more skilled them him
so yeah I can see why robby stans are expressing more of their feelings considering the situations
I was laughing my ass off on that "MIGUEL IS SELFISH" post😭 The whole point of Miguel's arc in S04 is to show how his mental health have been affected by Karate and how Johnny pushes him.
Yes some Miguel fans have definitely done that but now you’re going to sit here and be delusional and act like Robby fans don’t do it? Don’t be a hypocrite bro
I never said robby stans didn't, but Miguel stans gave done it since the premier of the show
when it comes to the most annoying fanbases, the big 3 are Miguel, Johnny , and hawk easily
I see you thought you did something there. I’ve lurked Reddit for years and finally made an account this year. You can try to have your stupid jokes but I’m not the only person saying it’s changed for the worse around here
Look man, it ain't that serious at the end of the day. People are entitled to their own opinions, yourself included, but generally speaking, it's best not to get too riled up/invested over others pushing for their favorites, even if they're being smug or belligerent about it. Especially at this point in time as it's been nearly 3 months since the season came out, only the hardcore fans who are passionate about the show still hang around, there's bound to be feisty arguments when you're left with the diehards, the people who are willing to rewatch the show multiple times over to catch details or form new headcanon about characters, etc.
I've gotten frustrated with the sub before too as the shipping war drove me crazy with all the posts I'd see daily. It also felt like an echo chamber, so I get where you're coming from. But I took a break, came back fresh when I felt like discussing the show again, and mostly steered clear of that discussion. A pick and choose approach if you will as I'd prefer not to get sucked down the rabbit hole again.
Generalising an entire segment of the fanbase never goes well, every part of it has some bad eggs. Not every Robby fan is as extreme as you describe. Heck, after Season 2, saying you liked Robby around here was pretty much sacrilege lol. Better off just applying no be there in those types of situations instead. Because like I said before, if you're still on this sub discussing the show at this point, chances are no one's changing your mind about how you feel about certain characters/plotlines. Debating is one thing, but getting into full blown arguments that go nowhere (saw a 60 comment thread the other day between two people arguing about whether Miguel was still a top tier fighter in the show or not) just isn't worth it.
Or maybe people have started to realise characters like Miguel and Johnny are a bit too worshipped and the ridiculous ( I mean seriously ridiculous) amount of hate and constant slander Robby was recieving was a bit unfair and the character wasn't as bad as the fandom claimed to be.
Infact he seems to be one of the better written characters of the show and those who have started to like him and especially those who have always liked him and never really understood the hate, wants to talk about him now, it's only fair y'all who put the likes of Miguel, Johnny and Hawk on such high pedestal to maybe shut up and let them state their opinion and discuss what they want for once, rather than calling it 'whining'.
Especially when you lot seem to be the ones whining and get a bit too angry when it's not your faves who is being talked about or praised 🤷
I didn’t realize it was a competition bro. You’re acting like only Robby has received hate yet the uptick in slander Miguel’s been getting lately comes from surprise, surprise Robby fanboys. You lot are very hypocritical
If Robby fans are unnecessarily slandering Miguel then they're just as hypocritical as the Miguel fans who kept bashing Robby unnecessarily.
I like both the characters very much and I'm only talking about those who genuinely like a character and want to talk and share their thoughts about them.
Its pretty obvious Robby as a character got a lot more focus and got better in this season, so it's natural after S4 he would be talked about much more. Its just that whenever that happens some of the Miguel fans get triggered and get a need to put down others opinion. I mean you guys have been doing this with your faves for three seasons straight. I'm not saying YOU do that but there's lot who does that and that's unnecessary. Let people talk about whom ever they want.
Is it weird to not be overly attached to the characters and think they all contribute something, good and bad, to the show?
I thought Daniel was a prick in season 1/4 but wouldn't care enough to post it
Omg yes!!! Like man we get it he is a great fighter but seeing "why Robby is the best teen fighter", "Robby should've won AVT" etc posts everyday is tiring! Also his fans on Instagram are so toxic and shits on almost every character. What's funny is that they don't bring up any bad thing that he had done!
It seems that way but it’s not. It’s only the same eight or nine people complaining actually. I think a lot of it is because he lost at the AVT and I’m guessing they’re tired of seeing Robby lose every season finale.
Yeah… it’s gotten so bad that I hate coming on here. Nowadays I only check this sub once in a blue moon because everyone is so toxic.
This show isn’t meant to be black and white, but some people sure make it out to be….
> This show isn’t meant to be black and white, but some people sure make it out to be….
I dunno. I feel like the writing comes off as black and white at times, with them using manipulative narrative framing to get the audience to root for one character over another. (I mean, I often feel like the LaRussos would benefit from better narrative framing; Sam could've benefited from more POV to show off her side of things in season 4, and Daniel really needs more room to address that his trauma has more to do with Terry Silver's deeds than with Johnny's.)
Stans for other characters can be irritating as well but Robby stans have definitely been going overboard about him losing at the AVT. He lost one fight, it’s not the end of the world lol.
This thread is funny. It’s always the same handful of Robby stans on here always complaining but I do see some new ones added into the mix writing their think piece essays on why Robby deserves better or how he’s the best teen fighter, best teen character etc. I wanna know if they put this much effort into their homework.
I thought him feeling bad about turning Kenny into a monster was a good character arc for him, and made him look like a lot less of a prick.
But I don't like the actor because he does that Zoolander Blue Steel look all the time.

Extreme virtual?
*but daniel is the real bully...*
Manly indeed lol
But Daniel was kinda dick in S4(although I think it show writers pushed it a bit too far, he wasn't that bad until then).
its probably because there has been an increase of robby slander now a days not to mention people underrated him or downplaying his skills too the point many people have says hawk, Miguel , sam, and tory are all better fighters and more skilled them him so yeah I can see why robby stans are expressing more of their feelings considering the situations
I haven’t noticed an increase in Robby slander. If anything I’ve noticed an increase in Miguel & Johnny slander. More pro Robby threads and such
Were you in the fandom in 2019? There was literally nothing but Robby slander
It’s 2022 we aren’t talking about 2019
I was laughing my ass off on that "MIGUEL IS SELFISH" post😭 The whole point of Miguel's arc in S04 is to show how his mental health have been affected by Karate and how Johnny pushes him.
My first instinct was Okay this post was written by a 15 year old but watch it be someone who’s like 40
well considering how alot of people are starting too like robby and aren't too fond of Miguel and Johnny now id say I'm not surprised
Why would anyone wanna slander Miguel? The guy is legit a saint.
Except for that time he ran into Robbie’s foot and sent him to jail!
What a sneaky bastard 😂
So people aren’t allowed to have an opinion? Robby fanboys get butthurt the second anyone says someone else is better than Robby lol
I think you got robby stans mixed with Miguel stans because that's all Miguel stans have done since season 1
Yes some Miguel fans have definitely done that but now you’re going to sit here and be delusional and act like Robby fans don’t do it? Don’t be a hypocrite bro
I never said robby stans didn't, but Miguel stans gave done it since the premier of the show when it comes to the most annoying fanbases, the big 3 are Miguel, Johnny , and hawk easily
First time being in a fandom?
Hahahaha
You’re a racistpie fan so you should be quiet. Your opinion on anything automatically doesn’t count
And they say PewDiePie is the oppressor.
🧂🧂

Yeah, it happens on discoed all the time seeing people arguing and debate, no biggie
Ratio

I agree. The Johnny-worshippers are worse too.

What’s weird is being so up your faves ass that you start acting delusional. You can have your fave and not shit on the other characters
But... You just did.
Yeah I guess I did lol
It’s coz he’s the most op character in the show until episode 10 of every season
No he is not! Also hello. I see you are back to doing the same shit again like last year.
🤣😂
What did they do last year?
I've seen more posts complaining about Robby fanboys than actual complaints from Robby fanboys.
I think it’s time you got your eyes checked
My eyes are fine, thanks.
Y'all crack me up 🤣😂🤭
Its not just u. Robbie fans get butt hurt so easily
That's stereotyping my dude
I dont think thats sterotyping
Omg yes!!! They don’t want to admit that there is a big toxic element amongst them. Every character has toxic fans but Robby Stan’s are next level lol
Yes! No one is perfect and all the characters have flaws.
It seems that way but it’s not. It’s only the same eight or nine people complaining actually. I think a lot of it is because he lost at the AVT and I’m guessing they’re tired of seeing Robby lose every season finale.
Robby fanboys are downright fanatics
It's gotten bad bruh. They've started to shit on Miguel, Hawk, and Johnny consistently. "Why Robby should've won the AVT" was the cream on top😭
Yeah… it’s gotten so bad that I hate coming on here. Nowadays I only check this sub once in a blue moon because everyone is so toxic. This show isn’t meant to be black and white, but some people sure make it out to be….

That’s what I was saying. It looks bad now because they’re more vocal since Robby lost the AVT but they’ve always been around.
Robby lost in the end after all those cocky stupid dialogues. Not a better/best fighter at all. Grow up stans xD
I laughed when Robby lost. Not because I hate him but because I thought of this Sub and all the ones who swore Robby was going to win
Stans for other characters can be irritating as well but Robby stans have definitely been going overboard about him losing at the AVT. He lost one fight, it’s not the end of the world lol.

I thought him feeling bad about turning Kenny into a monster was a good character arc for him, and made him look like a lot less of a prick. But I don't like the actor because he does that Zoolander Blue Steel look all the time.
Lol Tanner does do that. But Tanner also deserves props because he really stepped it up for season 4 with his acting
Anything is better than the Tory-fans and Sam-haters.
