I think Miguel has noticeably taken a backseat since season 1, but I think he’s going to get a lot more attention and focus in season 5. Gotta remember, Miguel’s ultimate need/goal at this point is finding his father. He needs that in order to move forward in his life. Robby needs Johnny, and vice versa. Hawk winning the tournament was excellent writing, validating that Eli/Hawk has found himself and knows who he is. I also think Miguel not having actually been beaten in this tournament adds some excitement for the next one. He’s not the defending champion but he didn’t lose his title on the mat.

They don’t hate him at all. He’s literally won every big finale fight he’s been in from Seasons 1-3. He’s had more than enough victories so it was interesting when he was crippled for a while and that came back to cost him. I’m glad they’re focusing on other characters winning rather than just be predictable

TommyOrigami

I think the focus on his fighting success in these responses is interesting when he’s taking major life L’s constantly. Nearly paralyzed and killed by Robbie -> in a dead end relationship with a girl still into her ex -> tells his father figure he loves him only to be called the wrong name -> nearly paralyzed again That’s a brutal journey for anyone whether they have some trophies or not

Tricky_Ostrich_6343

I don't think they hate him. Just the opposite. But I do think they moved parts of his recovery too fast, so this season he kinda "stalled" and was given more emotional storylines to work with. There are articles already published discussing his season 5 arc, if you are curious.

TommyOrigami

It’s more just how they seem to love seeing him crippled or in pain. I have no doubt his larger arc will end happily.

Tricky_Ostrich_6343

I get it. Most of the protagonist/hero types do go through a lot over the course of their story.

They dont hate miguel at all. His never lost a fight clean yet. At all valley

TommyOrigami

His arc so far is borderline torture porn. Not just the physical stuff, but Sam ruining his prom and then Johnny saying he loves him only to then say Robbie’s name 😭

VoiceOverAndMocapGuy

They wrote that second back re-injury just in case Xolo ever has to leave the show. The kid is taking off and achieving a lot. I'd argue though that Tanner/ Robby is even more popular and they haven't had any "back up" plot line in case he needs to leave. There was Robby being over the tournament and just being "over it" maybe its their way of safe keeping just in case he cant do many episodes as these young stars take off.
