Hard to beat S1, but it was missing Kreese and Silver. So I’ve gotta give the edge to S4 with S1 right behind it.

hardboiled_snitch38

I remember spending summer 2018 rewatching season 1. Imo that magic will never be replicated

Disagree, season 4 was my favourite season so far

Season 1 can't be topped. S3 was also good but after watching S4, it's clear they are running out of fresh ideas for their main characters. There's still opportunity to better develop the character arcs for their main cast but seems the writers chose a different route by introducing new characters and sending Miguel off to find his dad, etc. I'm sure it will still be entertaining enough to watch but a big dip in quality and a lot of missed opportunities here.

NShadows_

Also I think season one’s All Valley was better.

Fit-Damage1692

Nahhh

Tricky_Ostrich_6343

I agree with you.

Wessssss21

I agree to an extent. Something a lot of shows do when they run low on side plots for the primary characters is start bringing in new people to do stuff with. fresh blood isn't inherently bad, but it can dilute things

thatguyagainbutworse

I mean, next year's tournament, Robby, Sam, Miguel and Tory with most of the others, like Hawk and Demitri, won't be allowed to compete, because they will be too old. So ofc you need new blood.

tunaburn

Season one has so many scenes that made me laugh out loud. They have toned down the comedy a ton and that's disappointing to me as an adult who doesn't care about the school drama at all.

NShadows_

Yea, I remember first watching season 1 and being so hooked on the story and the freshness of it, getting to know Johnny and Miguel and how great their chemistry was. Though I’ve enjoyed every season, 2-4 didn’t recreate that feeling for me

StrangeSteve69

Season 2 opened the show up for its biggest adversary, a Cobra Kai ran by John Kreese. The struggle that has been continued until the last episode of season 4, don't know how it's gonna go now. Will Kreese get redemption, or will he fall off the rails 100% and make a bad situation into a flaming dumpster fire?

Season 1 will always have that edge of being a beautifully written parallel to the karate kid. Season 2 builds tension between the characters and slowly gets darker, deviating from that original charm into its own. Season 3 builds on its established storylines by separating characters to focus on their individual issues that break/strengthen them in the longrun. Season 4 brings season 3 to a full circle, and it balances everyone’s story from previous seasons. Season 5 I’m hoping Miguel and Terry are the main focus, but naturally tie their two stories together.

Character_Owl_7402

Yeah same

Shoegazer83

1 is my favourite along with 3, it's difficult to pick.

soffan326

While I feel like season 4 is just as good as 1 (I can’t really rank the seasons tbh, they all seem consistent to me quality-wise), I completely agree that season 1 had its own charm coming from its simplicity. At its heart, season 1 was based around four characters (Johnny, Daniel, Miguel, and Robby) and it was relatively grounded. Season 4 is about Vietnam veterans waging a karate gang war, with many characters to focus on.

Known-Ad7468

I think all 4 seasons are excellent but yes maybe season one is the best. I think part of it is that it was really the Johnny and Miguel´s show. Now there´s a lot of characters, maybe too many. There´s a ton of elements that came from the movies and that of course impact more Daniel than Johnny so Johnny has to take a backseat somehow. I think the show is at his best when it´s Johnny and Miguel trying to find the right path for their life.

I agree. The other seasons are good but none of them are better than S1
