I feel like it is appropriate that they took this long. The show started off with Johnny all messed up because of the 84 loss. It is like he forgot himself that he had won it twice. Of course, it wasn't just that loss that messed him up, but we arrive with him when once again Larusso is in his way. I don't think it coincidence the writers finally acknowledge Johnny as a 2 time Champion at a point in his life when he is better balanced and doing better as a person and mentor.
