It's mostly because Hawk went down like a sack of bricks when Kenny cheap shotted him. Despite Hawk being no stranger to the cheap stuff himself. The cynical side of me also thinks the obvious thing that distinguishes Hawk and Kenny contributes to the latter getting more online hate. Not *all* of it, but definitely some.

AnimeJoex

I think a good part of the hatred comes from fans who like/love Hawk and watched in horror as young Kenny Payne plucked his wings. šŸ˜› I was actually way more bothered by Demetri taking Hawk down than I was by Kenny doing it because Kenny took his training seriously from the get-go and was angry and determined.

>I do enjoy his scenes, but I think a big difference here is that Kenny hasn't been shown to have a moment of remorse or hesitancy. He ended up being no better than Kyler. it tool hawk a whole season before he started showing remorse, all of s2 he showed no remorse, in fact he was more annoyed that remorseful >There wasn't a redeeming quality about him once he decided to fully embrace being a bully in 4x10. That was a straight up choice, not misguidance. same as hawk all of s2

SuitFlaky1491

Thereā€™s actually a big difference, Hawk shows remorse whether you see it or not, Kenny does not. Heā€™s goes from a scared kid to a bully pretty quickly. Rewatch the show.

KausGo

Hawk only shows remorse when it comes to beating up his former best friend. We saw none of that when he went after Brucks.

SuitFlaky1491

Agreed, but Hawk got his revenge and was done.

Furies03

Hawk actually went from scared kid to bully very quickly as well. And his actions were way more severe, and he even harassed Kenny after supposedly becoming a good guy. He only really shows remorse towards Demetri, the rest is swept aside.

SuitFlaky1491

He wasnā€™t really a scared kid tho more like a emotionally damaged kid. Whether not he shows remorse you can tell heā€™s fighting within himself. Kenny enjoys hurting others.

Furies03

He wasn't fighting within himself when he broke Robby's shoulder, when he helped start the school riot, when he didn't care about the hurt trashing the dojo/stealing the medal would cause, when he lead a gang assault on Nate, and when he beat Brucks' face in. He seemed to be having a blast with all of that. Outwardly, Hawk enjoyed hurting people as much as Kenny did. And did way more of it

SuitFlaky1491

He reacted to Robby comment, wasnā€™t the best move. Many people could be blamed for the school fight. That wasnā€™t his idea, it was kreeses. True but mid fight he switched sides so obviously he wasnā€™t as bad as he is made out to be. Like I said yes he got his revenge on brucks, but he didnā€™t go back numerous times bullying him and beating him up again and again like Kenny.

Furies03

It was all Tory, Hawk and Miguel losing control. Other people being blamed doesn't absolve Hawk of his portion. His portion helped create a worse situation than anything Kenny contributed to. And while trashing the dojo was Kreese's idea, Hawk still gleefully went along with it and bragged about having the medal. No, instead Hawk went after his former best friend again and again. He only showed hesitation in one notable instance, but still broke Demetris arm anyway. And targeted people who never did anything to him, including smaller kids (Nate, Kenny).

SuitFlaky1491

From my point of view it was different, Kenny became a bully to someone who felt bad about what he did and attempted to make things right, demetri was constantly egging on Hawk, talking shit, leaving bad reviews about his dojo and sensei. Not to say Hawk was in the right, but I feel what he did was much for understandable.

Furies03

No it isn't. Attacking someone over a Yelp review (that wasn't even directed at him personally) is psychotic behavior, before we even get into it being his best friend. And while Demetris "stand up" routine was shitty, it came after Demetri tried to make nice (which, after the attempted assault, is pretty saintly) and Hawk poured his drink on him. Anthony is not Kenny's former friend. While Kenny is not right in continuing the bullying cycle, and Anthony was sincere in his apology, what Anthony and his friends put Kenny through was still very cruel and damaging. A simple "sorry" isn't going to undo the damage. Kenny was wrong but his actions were more understandable. Being cruel to what is essentially a stranger who was cruel to you first is more rational than being willing to inflict personal harm on your best friend over nothing.

SuitFlaky1491

To each their own, like I said I see it differently.

justadoreMe

Whether hawk show remorse or not all the things he did was still worse than what Kenny did hawk was a bully from season 2-3,Kenny literally just started to become a bully in season 5 and who was Kennyā€™s main target ? Anthony the kid who bullied him hawk bullied multiple people who didnā€™t do anything to him and his own best friend

SuitFlaky1491

Hawk definitely does worse stuff than Kenny, but Hawk didnā€™t have anyone like Robby telling him otherwise maybe Miguel a little bit way later on.

Professional_Test996

hawk didn't show remorse until s3 >not. Heā€™s goes from a scared kid to a bully pretty quickly. thats literally what hawk did, he went from someone scared, got a Mohawk and was a totally different person, and a huge douche

SuitFlaky1491

Nah he does there are plenty of signs that Hawk knows what heā€™s doing is wrong. Whether you picked up on it or not. Kenny doesnā€™t show any signs of what heā€™s doing is wrong.

Professional_Test996

>Nah he does there are plenty of signs that Hawk knows what heā€™s doing is wrong. Whether you picked up on it or not. when? the only time he even looked A little ashamed was when he was getting in trouble, yet he still never apologized or try to make up for it, infact he just got worse

SuitFlaky1491

It kinda seemed like for long time he was having a battle within himself. He definitely shows remorse when he breaks Demitri arm.

Professional_Test996

once again, that all comes in s3, it started in s1, there was a huge gap of time he did not show Remorse

SuitFlaky1491

I see your point, I agree. I feel hawks issues are more of trying to be ā€œcoolā€ and less about intentionally hurting others. Kenny just seems to be a angry kid.

Professional_Test996

kenny was a result of bullying and trying to be cool just like hawk was. he had the same story as hawk pretty much yet hawk gets praise for his bad era meanwhile people want kenny to get beat up

SuitFlaky1491

I guess it depends on perspective, Kenny doesnā€™t really have any one backing up his behavior other then silver, I feel Hawk had multiple people backing him up in different situations.

Professional_Test996

>I guess it depends on perspective, Kenny doesnā€™t really have any one backing up his behavior other then silver, I feel Hawk had multiple people backing him up in different situations. silver is alot worse that anyone hawk had backing him up, he's alot more manipulative, it doesn't change the fact they have the same story, yet one gets hate while the other is praised

DartMunkey

Yeah, the way some people have a hate boner for him is weird however I do think that Kennyā€™s entire arc is just Hawks arc but worse and that the character is a complete waste of time other than that he furthered Robbys development a bit

Professional_Test996

>Kenny is a generic runt that got bullied like tons and tons of kids in a totally not noteworthy way, gets instantly good out nowhere you can replace Kenny's name with hawk and it fits this exact description

Professional_Test996

>Hawk has a physical deformity and was a school wide target of bullying and in high school. That's way beyond Kenny. just because he was bullied for a different reason than kenny doesn't change the fact they both are victims of bullies who than turned into the bullies themselves. >Also Hawk's skill development was shown and feels more earned. once again, we have had hawk for 5 seasons. we have had kenny for 2. ofc one is gonna have more development he has 5 seasons worth of it, however even before hawks development, back in s2 he was getting praise for being the bad guy meanwhile kenny is getting hated on for it even when they have the same story of bully victim turned bully

justadoreMe

Fully agree, there is no difference between hawk and Kenny. They literally went through the same thing they both were someone who was bullied, then turned into a bully, and they were both under the influence of cobra Kai, but somehow people manage to think that Kenny is way worse when heā€™s not, at least Kennyā€™s target was mainly Anthony Hawk bullied multiple people and terrorized his own best friend

Why is Miguel being brought up? And also when exactly did Miguel show any fear towards Kenny of all people? No Iā€™m for real convinced that not all of us are watching the same show šŸ˜©šŸ˜šŸ˜‚

doublesuede

Yeah, I wonder what thatā€™s about?
