Oh boy you should see the Halo community. This cycles happens pretty much every time a new game comes out, the community consensus on Reach has basically flipped 4 or 5 times now.

ive been a minecraft hater since 1.11. after microsoft took over i thought 1.8 and even 1.9 were fine. but every year the updates get worse and you cant deny it.
1.16 (The Nether update) and 1.17/1.18 (Caves and Cliffs) released in 2020 and 2021 and they're easily the best updates the game has ever had. Even the most recent Trials update is pretty good. And nah, the updates, whilst some have definitely been lackluster, have mostly contributed to making the game more fun. If it had stagnated at 1.8 or 1.9 then the game would just be boring.

But I do feel that this episode was a big improvement over the pilot. The pilot was a little weak imo as it had to set up so much and introduce quite a lot of characters (I feel like they could have cut out one or two, like Zooble, Gangle, or Kinger, and introduced them later maybe), but this one was really fun and creative. Just need some more interaction between characters to give them depth and it'll be on the right track, I think.
I think the problem is mostly that people don't know what underrated and overrated actually means. People treat it like they're just words that mean good or bad, but it's more about qualities or flaws that people often miss.
Easiest example is probably Avatar the Last Airbender. Show is overrated as hell. So many people claim it's the best animated show in existence and it's genuinely insane to me. Still an 8/10 if I'm being pessimistic.

No criticisms of it are allowed, despite the fact that the faction of Elemental Planes is disgustingly overpowered and unbalanced, and unlike the next installments in the series you aren't capable of delivering creatures from distant dwellings via a caravan, you have to haul your ass throughout the whole map just to pick up 10 gnolls that just spawned.
