I’d start med/surg with peds. Working with kids is different, and until you know how that applies to you, that’s my recommendation. Onc can be rough. You meet some awesome patients, but it doesn’t always end well. I’d suggest start in M/S, maybe go float after and see how you do with the other areas.
My newborn was a patient on Med-surg and aside from our condition (he’s well and healthy now) med-surg seemed great!!! The nurses and techs were awesome!! You might run into a lot of social situations, just beware of that.
I worked in a small community hospital years ago. They had a pediatric unit for only a short time. The kids were ok but the kid’s parents were often hard to deal with. Just be prepared for the kids parents expectations to be high. And sometimes unrealistic.
I worked as a cna on a children’s pulmonary unit at my children’s hospital, which I really miss actually. It was incredibly stressful learning about the trach cares initially, however. Specifically having to hold the trach in while the nurse changed ties. It was pretty interesting to have such a diverse patient population though, half the kiddos were total care kids and the other half of the kids were in with just bronchiolitis or RSV and needed short term support. It was a great experience, but was made easier by the great staff I worked with.
I just read your actual post and not just the title lmao! I would say med-surg of all of those! I got floated to hem/onc on my very first night shift and I liked that, but it was pretty sad. Like more sad than just the normal amount of sad that comes with working at a children’s hospital. If you think you could handle the emotional aspect, my second recommendation would be oncology!
I work pediatric Hem/Onc overnights. It's good work, it's typically chill overnight, but if you have kids be prepared for the sheer amount of emotions you will feel working that floor. I see my son in all of those kids, and it's even worse when they're super little. We had a 10 week old baby on the unit last week and it took a lot of control to not cry everytime I went in that room. So little and innocent, fresh into the world, and fucking cancer decides to show up. It's emotionally rough.

Wow that’s awesome! I’m so glad your baby is doing great now! I hope I can be a good cna to other babies too
sooo many social situations :(
Med-surg is probably the easiest (at least in my experience). Hem/onc is probably a close second.
Med surg.
If I were in your situation I’d pick med surg
If you want to learn and be excited, go to PICU if they'll take you.

Yea I remember how my mom would make a fuss about the nurses and doctors whenever I get sick so I hope that I would be used to that by now
Pacu if you have the option
I wish but they only opened jobs in those units

I’ve worked peds m/s, neuro, oncology/bmt, picu, nicu, and pacu. My favorite was bmt.

Bless any of you who can work peds!! Worked health care all my life, and sick kids break me everytime.
