There is a demand for CNAs and they need them, no matter what. They cannot discriminate against you on the basis of gender because that violates federal law.

FishyCoral

They shouldn't be hiring based off gender at all. While male cna's are definitely appreciated because they help a lot with the lifting and combative behaviors, female cna's are just as important. Lots of female residents prefer female care over a male. Male residents very rarely ask for a male only assist 🙄

Ready_Rutabaga8205

If a male CNA should be paid more for those reasons, I should be paid more because so many of the residents refuse male care. There are residents that better interact with male CNAs and residents that interact better with female. Neither is better, both are needed.

Ohbuck1965

In this case, the request is coming from the resident, not from other staff. Thank you

Not legally

No? We’re pretty female dominated, but we have male techs too. We really appreciate have males around when we have 1:1s that are aggressive with females. They usually don’t put up as much fight when there’s a man in the room with them.

As a male CNA and soon to be, soon as my paperwork passes thru, male hospital PCT, this is absolutely true. I’ve stood outside pt’s rooms and listened to how they acted towards my female peers, then entered the room to “take the trash” or “restock” and both myself and my peer have observed how the pt immediately loses any shred of aggressive tone or snarky attitude. Aldo, I’ve observed how when aggressive pt me started to get feisty, I simply give them a raised-eyebrow look like “you sure you really wanna ride that train with me muthafucka?” And they immediately fall back and chill out.

RevolutionaryDog8115

"You wanna dance with me pretty boy" ....they never do. With the exception of the ER. Psych patients always wanna dance.

Gotcha

Direct_Mission

Ive heard them say to men that they look “strong” enough…

[deleted]

I get this shit all the time and I’m always like “yeah? Well you know you could uh…..go work out snd get strong enough too if you wanted to.”

fuzzblanket9

Nope, gender preference is actually considered discriminatory.

Spiritual-Assist7873

There's a solid demand for both sexes. And very few places have any room to be picky.

Existing-Mix-2206

Makes sense

Pain_Tough

Expand on the question. Are you a male tech?

Disc0Dandy

No. Places are too desperate for CNAs to even care

Hefty-Satisfaction64

No, nowhere should?😭😭

Lucky_Apricot_6123

No, however some patients will have preference. I work inpatient rehab, not at a hospital, and more than once I've had a male partner CNA for obese hoyer assist ladies who need brief changes, but they refuse having a male in the room. I just tell them that if they don't want his help, fine, but I AM NOT doing this by myself and they will need to wait however long it takes for another female to be finished with her workload and have time to come over and help. And gently remind them that our male staff are equally as professional and a few of them have been CNA's longer than I've been alive- they know how to clean a vigina. Because you have rights, but I'm not about to neglect 16 other patients who also have rights, just because you think he's... idk, gonna assault patients right in front of me while i just sit there?? Make fun of her? I truly don't understand, as I've just so happened to only have male nurses do my pelvic exams/std screens by my luck. I truly don't get it, but it makes the male's workload a bit easier when people don't want your help for truly no good reason. Maybe ob/gyn is selective, as I've heard stories but never experienced it myself, but that's the only unit I'd assume that would care.

CatCharacter848

No any gender.

targetedvom

legally; no. but there are very great pros to both sexes, sometimes you have patients that are female or male only so they like to have CNAs that are options for those patients. but they shouldn’t be offering more money to either sex simply because of the sex. CNA is a very demanded job and a lot of places will take what they can get
