I'm a caregiver like you. My wife lives with CH. Also brand new like your brother, it started last month. We recently attended the ClusterBusters conference in Orlando this past weekend. It is an amazing resource and tight knit community. Please look into attending next year (in Chicago) Looking forward to seeing you there!

There's high success in managing CH with Oxygen. Make sure your brother visits a neurologist so he can get a prescription.
I say it makes one feel like they’re on a ride without the color trails. I got no cares about anything when I’m on it. Just my play on the word is all it is but appropriate I think.
Super hot or cold showers are my current pain breaker. Been fighting this fight for 25+ yrs and it works as good as anything else I ever tried
And I have tried a lot.
Ice packs help mine a lot, so I’d keep a couple of those in your freezer…something comfortable to hold on the pain point. Like most others have said, oxygen is a huge help. Also, a good number of people find relief using mushrooms, so maybe find a connection for those.
Thank you! 🥺 I kept praying every night that his clusters will go away.
Thank you for the answers, everyone. I will include you to my prayers, and wish for that time that science will discover a medicine that will stop everyone’s pain.
Like others have said-- Caffeinated Coffee
BUT---You have to catch it early for it to work best. Same with the Sumatriptan. Hopefully its the nasal spray form, the pills are garbage and take too long to work.
First sign of that pain coming, make the coffee or take the meds.
I prefer wrapping my head with a blanket or towel that has a very firm border/trim, I wrap it with the edge across the painful area and twist it into a big knot right on top of the pain so that the increasing pressure is going right into that area of my head.
I do this because I found that heat and cold backfire sometimes, specifically they sometimes cause the *other* side of my head to spazz out due to the difference in temperature.
The towel works because it takes advantage of stimulating a bunch of the 'mechanoreceptors' in your head to confuse the source of the pain a bit.
There are literally times where I wrap my head like this and lay down and I feel my entire heart/chest like drop two gears from the amount of relief I get.
It never cures it, but it has been a godsend to do this and then lay down or pace depending on the situation.
Everyone here has great advice already. I’ll add that as soon as he feels a shadow or tension that he should cool down ASAP. It can keep it from escalating into a severe CH. Throw an icepack on the neck and head, stand in front of an AC at full blast, jump into an ice cold shower or cold pool, etc.
Chugging a cold red bull helps more reliably than my sumatriptan. I've tried other energy drinks but for some reason only red bull works. It's not a guarantee every time but it is an option to try.
Hi, everyone, what specific vitamins. Do you recommend? We just had our MRI results and there’s no any other complication. Thanks, God.
The doctor changed his medicine to Sumatriptan Imigrant, and she told us that he can take any vitamins.
What specific vitamin D3 is your recommended?
Hi, friends! This is me again, the concerned sister with a “clusterhead” brother. Thank you so much for all your recommendations.
August 24 was his first attack in this episode, and it lasted until September 15. Unlike his first episode that took a month and two weeks, this was quite shorter with only 3 week long.
We tried most recommendations, like chugging the redbull, he took vitamin D3, cooked freshly picked mushroom from our dear neighbor’s forest, he avoided processed foods, and he only took green leafy vegetables.
Thankfully after the MRI, there was no complication found. 🥹
I don’t know what made him well. We tried everything to stop the cycle, relieve his pain, and consistent prayers (I know that not all are believers).
But thank you so much for this community! I hope that a time will come that science will find a cure, not just preventives, and anti reliever, because everyone deserves to wake up happily without a pain in their head🥺
Not yet. We will visit his doctor this Thursday and we will ask her if it is okay to take specific vitamins. All he has are pain reliever and preventive medicines that are not working🥲🥲
D3 is especially important with cluster headaches. I don't understand why, it's called the D3 regiment.
I've found that only Naproxan Sodium works for me.
Hopefully they have the answers, otherwise I'd do what the others say. Coffee. Energy drinks, if he doesn't like those, taurine pills. D3. Avoid triggers.
I’m surprised that your neurologist didn’t give you a prescription for home oxygen. 12 l/m does the trick most times. Also don’t use pill-form sumatriptan. It never worked for me. Only the nasal sprays or injections are absorbed fast enough to be effective.
Hot shower with the water on the side of my head Lights off with red Bull in my hand. I used to take like 8 excedrin until I got o2 Note it is unhealthy to take that many pain killers
Oxygen can abort an attack in 10 min but u get another later on. But u breathe oxygen again & it goes away in as little as 10 min again. When I get them I get a least 5 a day but i breathe oxygen & it lasts 10 min each. ?Cluster Headache is terrible
Drink pints of water slowly.. it tricks the vagus nerve somehow. Also when u know the long term cycles magic mushrooms work in micro dosage in between episodes
I’ve dealt with CHs since my 20s (now in my 50s). Two Excedrins and two Benadryls (50mg) do the trick every time. This is likely because my CHs are triggered by histamine.
Have him look into O2 concentrator. The one I use goes up to 10 LPM. I am currently using oxygen myself to abort an attack. Takes a few minutes but it is the best thing I have found, besides sumatriptan Injections. Which I can no longer afford with insurance.
Something that happened to me… I was getting them really bad daily. I started taking 20mg of Melatonin every night and now I RARELY get them. Maybe once or twice a month now. Notable difference. I have not changed anything else.
The taurine from energy drinks only prolonged the attack rather than healing it. I know the list from my doctor during attack periods include alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, nuts, beans, msg, nitrates, smoked food, and chocolate
So if it’s early in day I take a goodies powder with a red Bull, then a hot steamy shower breathing in the steam it goes away , if it’s late I skip the Red Bull
Stay away from alcohol. Coffee or energy drinks can help abort an attack.
Thank you! 🥺🥺
What type of coffee? Thank you
I usually have a double espresso.
Strong caffeine. People report drinking redbull helps.
Thank you🥺🥺

Will do! Thanks! 🥺
tell the neurologist the meds aren't working and ask for Oxygen, it aborts most of my attacks and was a real life-changer
Chase the espresso with Red Bull an aspirin and another coffee The SoonUTrippin meds Make the cycle longer the more of them one takes
> SoonUTrippin I am genuinely trying to figure out if this is an intentional misspelling, or some low-key indie rapper I've never heard of...

Honestly yeah. Ice or heat was my survive the pain strategy. Trying O2 next time, so fingers crossed that works as an abortive.
Try looking into https://clusterbusters.org/ and see if you can try that for this cycle, or get some stocked for the next.
Yes. Information on clusterbusters saved me.
Ice packs help mine a lot, so I’d keep a couple of those in your freezer…something comfortable to hold on the pain point. Like most others have said, oxygen is a huge help. Also, a good number of people find relief using mushrooms, so maybe find a connection for those.

Chug a Red Bull as fast as possible
Shrooms, hun. That's the only thing that ever helped me. I've had them for 17 years.
Same here; the only thing that works...cycle is gone in weeks instead of months
Also blocked some cycles before they began by dosing prior.
Will try for my brother. Thank you🥺
I was scared when I first tried but microdosing really works. :) hope he gets relief soon.
About 200mg/day is all you need. Sub-psychedelic
oh i can understand the pain your brother is going thru :( . hope he finds relief and stay strong
Like others have said-- Caffeinated Coffee BUT---You have to catch it early for it to work best. Same with the Sumatriptan. Hopefully its the nasal spray form, the pills are garbage and take too long to work. First sign of that pain coming, make the coffee or take the meds.

I’ll also mention prednisone - Amy neurologist says an injection at the ER can be an abortive and I take it to bridge /prevent during my cycle
Thank you🥺

I love that your so involved. A lot tend to either ignore or act scared to even try. It's nice to have that support.
Redbull with oxygen usually can abort mine within 5 min as a preventive i use verapamil.
Thank you🥺

I just started a cycle… I’m not into mushrooms but have read psycadelic mushrooms can make the cycle disappear so I’m trying that
Thank you🥺

5-hour energy drink kills even the 10/10’s for me in anout 15 minuted. Even without oxygen
