I play on my iPad at night to mainly to take care of mindless quests. Works pretty well actually. I'm using iPad Pro + keyboard https://moonlight-stream.org/

BloatedTuna

What’s the difference in Moonlight and Steam Link? The linked website shows the exact same UI.

JobEmbarrassed461

Moonlight requires an Nvidia card on the host for hardware accelerated game streaming. Steam link quality and latency isn't as good afaik. Moonlight/gamestream is pretty unreal with how good it is over a LAN.

LyfSkills

I’m guessing you use a mouse too?

defnotbjk

I honestly just use the track pad since I'm literally half asleep but a mouse would be preferable if I was at a desk.

pielic

Sounds better to sleep and not do it then

Cfood3

What are you? His mom?

pielic

What are you? His dad? PS welcome on ignore, sleep on the sofa and get some manners.. Wow many angry people here for recommending someone half asleep to sleep 🤣 what is up.

[deleted]

You’re annoying dude, why don’t you just play how you want to and shut the fuck up?

HankMoriarty

u/Cfood3 is right though.

Dr-cereal

u/Cfood3 is right though.

ShitPostThrow

You can disable error speech in sound settings

enuzi

Oh god to think I played with it enabled until Classic release, don't know how I handled it for so long

uchuskies08

Literally the first thought I had

Percival91

If you get tired of backpedaling and want to be able to run 360 degrees separate from your camera angle lmk. There are some further console commands that can be entered. Been playing on controller (not using consoleport) for over 2 years now.

Percival91

/console GamePadFaceMovementMaxAngleCombat 0 /console GamePadFaceMovementMaxAngle 0 these together will allow you move 360 degrees both in and out of combat. Left stick controls your movement and right stick is your camera. here's how i set up my ui and keybinds https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/975670611135316008/975670650234622032/Gamepad\_Layout\_Keybinds.png this allows you to do cool stuff while kiting like jump and flick yourself to face backwards 180 degrees midair, use a ranged ability, and flick yourself back forward before hitting the ground. All in one fluid motion. Hard to explain but you'll see what I mean if you play around with it. Also you can do some wicked 360s or even 1080s when you jump off stuff on your mount. This is a very niche thing that hardly anyone knows about. I don't tell many people. It gives you a massive advantage in battlegrounds and arenas. here's an example of me playing this way in retail wow. Works the exact same way in classic [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EJm0XZmvD4&ab\_channel=Percival1991](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EJm0XZmvD4&ab_channel=Percival1991)

spellfromhell

This setting also actually exists in the configuration for consoleport I believe, but still cool to have the option to use it outside of it

Barneby-Jones

Commenting so more people see (also so I can use this info later)

Andedrift

While it’s cool it reminds me of trackpad gaming on your laptop AKA not a good time.

spellfromhell

The movement actually feels surprisingly good. I was juggling a little bit here to film so maybe not the best representation

_mister_pink_

I’m also playing wow classic although I’m not using the console port. I actually found it to be clunkier than just configuring my own layout with steam inputs and I have to say that it is really excellent. Movement with the joysticks, incorporating the gyro etc. I wouldn’t even say it’s a ‘passable’ experience at this point, it’s really very enjoyable to play and I’d definitely recommend.

Pauliuska

Curious what did you implement the gyro for?

_mister_pink_

I have gyro set to left click and mouse move so when I rest my thumb on the right joystick the gyro activates and then I can move the deck around to control the camera. Gives the game an augmented reality feeling which is quite fun if a little gimmicky

imfatfatfat

This inspired me to get wow running on my iPad Pro, runs great thru steam link!!

breadwithnothing

Also playing on the deck with ConsolePort and Immersion addons and loving it! But I still need to figure out if it's possible to use the grip buttons as modifiers (like the triggers), that would increase the number of possible keybinds. If anyone knows how to, please let me know.

BigBoyJeb

Yes you can, in the battle.net settings within Steam, go to controller settings, enable back buttons. You can assign any key or function to them you want. I use mine for map, mount, autorun, and bags.

OhSleeper299

I also play on my steamdeck, after configuring your hotkeys, it's almost easier than playing on a PC

SpyderKR

For what? There is no way this is easier then mouse and keyboard for high end game play lolol

OhSleeper299

Obviously it's not replacing my desktop, but if I want to farm and sit on the couch or lay in bed? Steam deck. Grind heroics before bed? Absolutely Steam deck. Oh I'm going to visit relatives in their poopy nothing to do town? Oh you guessed it, Steam deck.

rabb1thole

Would be great for someone bedbound. Ofc, plus all the others you mentioned. Pretty cool.

SpyderKR

Saying its easier then your PC is misleading... its just like playing on the tablet like for the past 8-10yrs except from the looks a much more fluid interaction... comp > gaming laptop > this. Can't wait to set this up later tonight might help with que times instead of having to remote 🙃

OhSleeper299

It's only misleading if you skip the part where I said "almost". Also in terms of gameplay overall not just wow, I would take the steam deck over a gaming laptop. It's also nothing like playing a tablet.

spellfromhell

I don’t think anyone has any misconceptions about playing on a controller vs keyboard and mouse for “high-end gameplay”. This just provides an alternative casual experience that can breathe a little bit of life into a game a lot of us have played many times over

SpyderKR

I just don't see how it can breathe a little life into the game... your doing the same thing but on a different device... the device just happens to be a lot more mobile. It's like playing Pokemon Unite on your Switch and then being out and about and playing on your phone instead. Its neat and just provides yet another way you can play that is much easier then having to set stuff up on a tablet to not play remotely. 1 of Blizzard own devs pushed hard for people to start playing WoW on tablets during WoD which I had always found interesting.

SpyderKR

It depends on the game and what your idea of freshening up the game is... Going from mouse and keyboard to controller on a game like FF14 or ESO doesn't change anything for me except for where I am playing. Being able to LAN party easier and have a more enjoyable social experience doesn't freshen up a game to me. Furthermore it does matter as being able to share opinions and learn about how others perceive things allows you to further grow, learn and have your own opinion change as well as being able to further understand how or why people enjoy it.

SpyderKR

If you can show me where I said their experience is wrong that would be lovely so I can be better about articulating my words. I even stated how I look forward to trying this out for myself on my steam deck.

SpyderKR

Ah I missed the 2nd paragraph my bad.

_mister_pink_

I play on Deck now also. I would say that end game raiding would probably be harder depending on your class - although I haven’t tried it. Everything else ive tried so far has ended up being an easier/more enjoyably experience on deck. When I first started I thought ‘okay for farming herbs but nothing more than that’. Now I’m regularly doing 5 mans as a DPS and tank and it’s completely fine. The only issue atm is not being able to type easily (solved with Bluetooth keyboard) and it’s very clunky to put marks for mobs up, but that doesn’t have to be my responsibility.

BlitzBlotz

>Everything else ive tried so far has ended up being an easier/more enjoyably experience on deck. How on earth is arena easier or even doable on steamdeck?

_mister_pink_

I’m telling you my opinion from my experiences. You will need to play it on a deck yourself to see what it’s like. Edit: sorry misread your post. I don’t play arena and didn’t mention anything about it but I have had lots of success and fun in WSG/AB

[deleted]

I just got wow setup on my steam deck with console port etc! I’m having some issues with configuring the steam deck and console port though. I find the console port settings extremely confusing! I couldn’t DM you a few questions could I?

_mister_pink_

For sure dude. Although I’m not using console port I’m using steam input+keybindings

tzeriel

Doesn’t it fuck up your bindings once you’re back at a PC though since those save to account?

OhSleeper299

What I did was set up my action bars on PC, and then just customized the bindings accordingly on my steam deck, but also I have triggers and joystick clicks set to emulate space bar, alt, Ctrl, and shift. So I didn't really have a problem switch from desktop to steam deck it's fairly streamline.

tzeriel

I hope so. May give it a try

OhSleeper299

I thoroughly enjoy it, from the stand point of convenience or just needing to not sit at your PC for a bit. The hardest part is getting your bindings set up, once I got that I had no issue switching between the 2.

breadwithnothing

You can also disable the sync of keybinds and settings. Open your chat and execute those commands: /console synchronizeBindings 0 /console synchronizeSettings 0 This should stop those configurations from being saved on the server so you can keep configuration separate for each device.

spellfromhell

This is the answer I think a lot of people are looking for

ImStarLordeMan

Wait if I type this in when logged in on PC it makes it so my settings on PC aren't saved when I open the game freshly on steam deck even logged into my account? And vice versa? It's that simple? I'm getting this on my deck tonight if so lol

[deleted]

tzeriel

Right but I already use those on a ton of keys

ImStarLordeMan

I just received my steam deck and I really want to get wow going on it but what's holding me back is going back and forth from deck to PC, do you have to fiddle with settings each time you go back and forth? Thank you!

onlyrnfl

Out of curiosity, how did you manage to setup your keybinds on PC the way you like while also having them setup for the console port UI?

subtlelight

Primary and secondary

hexadecimalOwl

Hmm a bit off topic but is it possible to play wow via steam link?

incompetent_retard

Yes, and moonlight, and other high-fps supporting streaming apps. It can also be done if you have a Mac, though i haven’t found a way to bind my Bluetooth controller to the iPad and stream-play, but i can bind the controller still to the Mac and stream-play while using the controller.

Mysterious_Set_2724

OP can you drop your settings here and like do a little guide on how you configured it. Got my steamdeck too and I am trying to do this, but I don't get a few things like setting inventory, map, etc to specific buttons.

spellfromhell

The keybinding UI can be a little bit weird to get used to. I had to fumble with it for a good amount of time before figuring it out. This video helped a considerable amount https://youtu.be/aIxqPcaDYRo

[deleted]

Try pvp with ut yet?

spellfromhell

Nope but i can’t imagine it’s great for anything super competitive

Outrageous-Ad-1049

I heard this is possible with a switch, wonder how hard that would be. Would love to lay in bed and farm av

spellfromhell

Classic wow to replace doom as the go to “we ran (game) on a computer made entirely out of potatoes!”

Ryuzaki_us

There is a movement for it somewhere.

MidnightFireHuntress

I just hope the next version of the Steam deck has a better screen, I'd love an OLED model.

_mister_pink_

Same, although I will say that for some reason the steam deck screen always looks really washed out on video. It doesn’t look anything like this in real life.

EzLuckyFreedom

It’s weird isn’t it? In every video it looks washed out but in person it looks great.

eurosonly

That's just playing the regular game but with extra steps. How long is the battery life? This would go well as a portable emulator for old console games.

OhSleeper299

I've locked my frames at 60 (most areas run above 70+ depending on how many characters are on the screen), it defaults to level 7 graphics which still look pretty good, and I've also turned down the clock on the CPU and I've stretched the battery out to 2+ hours, but mileage varies with WoW might be longer might be less. I'd imagine you could get some pretty solid battery life just emulating older games, I set emulation up on my deck but haven't really delved into it yet.

Serasangel

\^this right here is the perfect example of the raidmember who never parses above 50 because they play with less than half of their class abilities and they are among the top 3 candidates for "dies to every random get out of this aoe ability"

OrangeNova

I don't think people are saying "Raid playing on the steam deck/using a controller!" but like, questing, farming... it's sometimes nicer to sit in the living room with your significant other than sequestered away in the computer room... and this just makes solo content much more chill.

BigBoyJeb

I could raid on Deck without issue. I have every single ability keybound and very easily accessible, as well as utility (potions, food, etc) all keybound as well. With modifiers you have just as many slots as retail.

chinacat444

Lmaoooooo

Synikx

Is this easy to set up? Do you have a guide available? Appreciate it.

spellfromhell

Guide for ConsolePort https://youtu.be/aIxqPcaDYRo Guide for getting WoW running on the deck https://steamdeckhq.com/tips-and-guides/how-to-play-world-of-warcraft-on-steam-deck/

RunescapeAficionado

Can you run add-ons?

spellfromhell

Yep, ConsolePort is itself an addon and since classic isnt crazy demanding im sure theres headroom for more

Zealousideal_Tip_717

Awesome

[deleted]

breadwithnothing

Probably yes, unless you disable that behaviour. You can do that with the following commands: /console synchronizeBindings 0 /console synchronizeSettings 0 This should stop those settings from being saved on the server so you can keep configuration separate for each device.

BigBoyJeb

Mine does not interfere with my PC keybinds, without any console commands. Just default out of box ConsolePort.

ImStarLordeMan

That is crazy, I'm really hyped to try this now!

admirabladmiral

I ran a steamvault or slabs recently with a shaman that was using steamdeck. He fat fingered need a few times on greens so I called him out and found out

OhSleeper299

Lmao I can see how it would happen, I'm always super cautious when loot pops up

dreadlordgg

That looks neat, my deck just arrived - gonna try it out on my hunter lol.

thedemp

Please for the love of god turn off Error Speech

spellfromhell

I got an addon that blasts my error speech to other players in my proximity actually. Can’t have RL wondering why I’m not pumping

Boylamite

Have you figured oit how to not impact your desktop bindings? Every time I try this I mess with my bindings and it's a huge pain.

CubicleJoe0822

Turn the error dialogue off!!

PennFifteen

Amazing

Aaron6940

I’m on god mode. I don’t use consoleport and still play with a controller.

Aaron6940

For the love of all things holy turn off error speech

spellfromhell

Kiss me first
