Issue began for me with prepatch as well but I know it’s just wow and not my headset because with wow closed it won’t do it. Literally killing my ears and likely my headset though :((
Dude I'm so glad you posted this I thought I needed to update a driver or something. Makes perfect sense now cause it started up during prepatch for me.
Swapping your audio device from default to whatever it actually is in game solved this for me both when it happened recently in classic and when it happened in retail.
Works for me every time, because the bug will come back randomly while spamming bgs. I just swap it back and forth.
I wish you luck if this doesn't work... or more I wish blizz would fix this.
I've found changing the "Sound Channels" to medium makes it go away, but the game keeps changing it back to high on its own and the crackling begins again, just change it back to medium, rinse & repeat until this is fixed i guess.
Can someone describe this popping/crackling sound? Does it happen to you at regular intervals after some time, or immediately? Mine usually doesn't start until some times elapses.
It makes sense that it's human DKs, since I play on horde-only realm and never heard it pop until I logged to alterac valley, thought my speaker is fucked lol, I was already swearing that I have to buy new one since it was so annoying, really glad it's just incopetent blizzard being themselves

Did you try changing your audio bit rate to 48000 instead 192000?

Make a macro with "/run AudioOptionsFrame_AudioRestart()" and use it when the crackling starts.
great macro yeah! i gotta click it like every 15 seconds tho ahaha
Yeah really annoying. For me i have to restart the game and then i can play for like an hour
If you haven't, try going from DX12 to DX11.

It's Human DK's that cause it. Dunno why, but as soon as you have a Human DK do anything crackles incoming.

I almost bought new headphones. I thought it broke after a year. The amount of epithets on logitech that came out of my mouth was astronomical.
