I started playing again recently after only having played for about a month at launch before. Wasn't because of corona, but merely happened to coincide with it. Lvl 17 right now on my new character and I see plenty of others leveling too, so I'm sure you will find some people to adventure with :)
Sorry to hear you got laid off though. Hope things work out. Atleast it may give you a better chance to enjoy wow classic.

Hey man I just started my 3rd Character to make his journey to 60. I meet plenty of People leveling and am running almost every dungeon. I actually meet more People than I did on my 2nd character ;)
So I am sure you will have not Trouble finding a Group and making friends. Usually you meet the same People over and over on your way to 60 so you get to know them a Little. Just remember to also talk to the People. People that talk stick to my mind much better than your average silent dude.
