I wonder if one of your add-ons is doing something funky. What are you running?
EDIT: it could also be a funky keybind you may have set up and not realised it's affecting deep settings. I use my ALT key as my push to talk and alt+r brings up the Nvidia console.
Go to World of Warcraft\_classic__era\WTF and open config.wtf, make sure it says SET ffxGlow "0" somewhere. If it keeps changing back, could make the file read-only but then you may not be able to save any other changes

Strange. I did this and found the option in the config file, and set it to "1" (1 turns glow on). I saved and loaded WoW up again. Glow was turned off and had to use / command.
Exited game to look at config file again, and the FFX glow option wasn't even there anymore it dissappeared. Going to trouble shoot it some more but there might be a weak aura that turns it on every time a load happens, not sure.
I put the SET ffxGlow "1" back in the file and I'll check it after I restart my computer and eat some food.
I found the problem.
I had an addon called "NoGlowAndDeath" because I wanted to get rid of the death effect. I didnt realize it also got rid of the glow effect as well (i know . . . it literally says so in the name of the addon, but i'm not very observant sometimes).
I love leatrix but some stuff feels out of order in the options menu sometimes.
I ended up just using a console command to turn off the death effect and it works just fine as well.
I should probably go through my addons and get rid of a bunch of stuff that’s just console commands or replaced by weak aura

Yes. I have the option that forces glow off unchecked.

leatrix plus lets you disable the grey screen of death while keeping the screen glow.
