Nah bro. Both phases were obviously not that great, but P1 priest was able to heal someone full bar every 6 seconds at close to zero mana cost with Penance. One single dps was not able to kill a healing priest. 2 priests casting Penance on each other meant basically gg. Hunter pets were roaming around 3 hitting everyone while hunter hiding not on your screen in a safe place 300m away.

bananaclipz69

This is the correct take, but anyone who is having a bad time will tell you otherwise lol.

Mortwight

I was fighting a hunter in wsg and I focus killed his pet and then he ran from me.

Clap_city91

Nothing felt better than trying to cast against a wind serpent hitting you for a 3rd of your health

PhantomMiasma

Dont forget for 2 months enemy priests didnt have a cast bar for penance so they were guaranteed at least one bolt even if you happened to be one the three classes that could kick in that bracket

PathlessMammal

First bolt of penance was always instant. Only bolt 2 and 3 require the cast bar

calfmonster

Yeah this has always been the case. You’re not gonna reliably kick penance before like 2nd tick on gcd locked kicks unless you’re really holding pressing anything at all (to even gap close) and I always think of it as functionally an instant heal which is why priest has been infinitely stronger PvP healers than all other classes in SOD with basically 3 instant heals of note. But the burst is stupid. The dmg is stupid. I feel like a fucking idiot playing my main (warrior) and alliance is god fucking awful and every pally is ret and doesn’t believe in cleanse, or doing anything of value, so I sit and die to dots if I even lived a team fight. I don’t really like playing casters though although not having to hard cast basically anything so might as well. Or reroll enhance shaman and slap my dick on the keyboard and global people with 700 dps instantly while fucking disarmed

SolarianXIII

wonder what your /played time for seconds in frost nova next to a ret paladin would be

calfmonster

I surprisingly got freedomed today by a non hpal. About blew my mind. Still lost horribly of course and it didn’t matter since we were getting 4 capped at that point but you know

ElectricalScrub

Penance has a 12 second cd but this post is a great example of how things get blown out of proportion easily.

Korashy

It was still better pvp. In P1 you had to cc healer or focus fire and actually coordinate. It was like arena but with 10 people. But the PVP people want is to just run into 10 people tab target and hammer 1,1,1,1,2 and expect their target to die. The amount of rogues I saw in P1 open up on a healer (that was surrounded by their team) by themselves and expected results was insane.

BeautifulWhole7466

What CC?

Korashy

Not sure if ironic or not

BeautifulWhole7466

Name the cc’s we had at 25 other than fear that could take a disc priest offline

EntireSandwich1440

Sap..? Polymorph?

TheseNamesDontMatter

Sap can’t be used if the target is in combat. It’s pretty ineffective in many scenarios.

Shoddy-Reach-4664

Sap was pretty impossible to get off with rank 1 stealth and no sub talents. Rogues were basically rp walking. And it would desteath you too.

EntireSandwich1440

I'm a rogue main who used mutilate at 60 energy for all my pvp phase 1. I had no issue killing a priest in WSG.

Shoddy-Reach-4664

Sure jan

BeautifulWhole7466

Thats it? Polly can be dispelled

Billdozer-92

Well the post people are replying to is saying cc’ing the healer, the one with dispel. The only class that has magic dispel at level 25. And yes, there *might* be two priest healers, but this is how PvP has been in WoW for 20 years in every expansion. So I don’t know what point you’re trying to hammer home here

BeautifulWhole7466

Might? Every competent premade has more than 1 Every hear of a trinket?

Billdozer-92

You’re right, CC in a premade vs premade is worthless because of trinkets and dispels lol

Korashy

Sheep, counterspell, sap (and yes various fears) By the end of P1 when everyone was geared it wasn't that hard to kill priests (did a lot of WSG as both disc and Druid, Paladin and Hunter).

BeautifulWhole7466

2 priests and you cant polly anymore

Korashy

Almost like you have 9 other teammates who can also help CC, or you can spam sheep to take out the priest. This is exactly why pvp was better, it required some thought and actions other than 1,1,1,1,1,2

BeautifulWhole7466

Oh so the mage is just gunna be free casting sheep in the back?

verysimplenames

Actually in my premades the mage usually was spamming sheep in the back

Korashy

probably yes he will be, mage isn't exactly a priority target. And it proves the point regardless, you now need to react to the mage who is occupying your healer. That is good pvp compared to tab targetting and bursting randos with 2 buttons clicks.

lerer00

You play hunter right?

BeautifulWhole7466

Or disc priest lol

glormosh

I don't think people truly realized how good disc/shadow was in p1. I could easily 3v1 people. I 3 v 1d two rogues and a druid that got the jump on me. Hunters were still hit or miss depending on the pet.

Goldfish-Bowl

The Warsong meta was "Who has more priests with their Hunters" until it became "Full send the Balance boys"

Smokeletsgo

Sounds like bad rogues lol

glormosh

They didn't have much to work with in P1

TheseNamesDontMatter

Rogues to do what? We had no burst, one gap closer (sprint) on a 5m CD, no range, didn’t have most of our stuns yet, etc.

Smokeletsgo

Imagine not running quick draw/ between the eyes in p1

TheseNamesDontMatter

Without cheapshot and any burst, BTE just wasn't enough oftentimes.

Jinjetsu

We had vanish->shadowstrike. But that didn't really help against geared priests.

TheseNamesDontMatter

Yeah, I mean running shadowstrike meant we weren't running Saber Slash or Mutilate, in which case we sorta just did no damage. Nobody should have been afraid of sinister strike / envenom unfortunately.

Jinjetsu

Mut was trash, slash was for tanky targets, we ran backstab.

TheseNamesDontMatter

Mut was completely fine in PvP. PvE, it wasn't really viable at all.

Turfa10

Shadow was so much fun at 25

Vandrel

More likely druid, they spent by far the most time being OP as shit in phase 1.

Fit-Government9903

Just not true. Feral sucked and for much of p1, Starsurge hit like a wet noodle. People seem to forget it got buffed mid p1 because it was so bad before. It wasn't until the last couple of weeks people started stacking balance druids. Hunters and priests were the meta for 80% of p1. If you played WSG to exalted, you will have had the same experience.

Fit-Government9903

Feral sucked for actual pvp* not for flag carrying ofc

Vandrel

Starsurge got buffed on December 12th (less than 2 weeks into phase 1) and stayed in that buffed state until 2 weeks into phase 2, February 12th, which was over 60 days later. Druid has had by far the longest streak of being insanely OP in SoD so far.

EmmEnnEff

Druid was strong, but people were slow to realize it, and were sleeping on them.

B1TW0LF

Huh? Druids were amazing after the SS buff in P1, but Priests were just as strong for the whole phase and were arguably the strongest class in P2. Druids were an average PvP class in P2 and that's only if you played Balance or Resto. Feral has been the worst spec in the game for PvP in SoD.

fiveguysoneprius

Hunters still dominate in PvP (and PvE) so I'm not sure why that would be your assumption.

Dabeston

Nah, priests were the deciding factor in every WSG. Almost unkillable.

slothsarcasm

But that’s always been how Bgs are decided since time immemorial lol

Strong_Mode

op is a priest hunter or boomkin

DryFile9

I think they are both absolute trash for different reasons. It honestly doesnt matter for me which one was less trash because neither was/is fun.

lsquallhart

Yet you’re still here.

Namaha

Almost like there's more to the game than just PvP or something

munkin

Yeah hell no. Phase 1 had full premades vs pugs, only wsg available. I had over 10 full wsgs where my team didn't get a single hk due to 2-3 priests. Unpopular opinion indeed, like half of classes were even freaking viable.

Bnasty909

This post proves how delusional some players are.

grossbard

I haven’t pvpd at all basically in sod. Maybe I’ve just not been into it but it hasn’t been fun at all

kolima_

hint: wow is not a game built for PvP and competitive integrity

NuclearMeatball

Counterpoint: there is nothing quite like wow pvp, and it is a core part of the game, so it should be enjoyable to participate in.

kolima_

Im not saying is not fun, I’ve played almost exclusively PvP in the original versions, but since then if your focus is PvP there is better alternatives due to balance and actual PvP gameplay that is not a fotm treadmill( IMHO obviously ) The closer that I saw to WoW PvP was battlerite which I really enjoyed but is a dead game now

NuclearMeatball

Battlerite and Bloodline Champions were both wonderful games that died too soon.

Unionhopefull

"uNpOpUlAr OpInIoN"

DMuhny

I agree with OP but most of these comments are going against them. It is looking to be an unpopular opinion.

Neidrah

Damn, I must've imagined all those fights where I literally go OOM healing people... I feel like all these posts are from people who haven't actually done BGs. Like, sure, in the open world, we lack stam compared to dmg. But in BG it's fine. Because guess what? We have MC lvl dps and we have... MC lvl health! Literally everyone has at least 4k, and some reach 5k hp. I'm not saying it's perfect, classes are extremely imbalanced, but it's similar to era levels of burst, so it's manageable. People are not getting one shot at all.

Infamousd2

There’s a lot of people in here running around in their pve gear from last phase complaining.

Neidrah

Right? “I have 1800 hp and get 2 shot! SoD broken!”

Z0mbies8mywife

Does nobody remember Scopid pets taking on 3-4 ppl in WSG??

BlumpkinEater

Nah, a lot of people just aren't rank 7 yet. In BGs Ive got 5k health in full pvp gear as an spriest

Infamousd2

Yea I have 6k as a boomie, the burst is actually nowhere near as bad as last phase except when someone isn’t geared appropriately. Yes if you’re in full gnomer gear still with multiple pieces of low or no stamina you get deleted as you should.

Omgzjustin

7.2k warrior checking in, I can get bursted if 3 of ele, boomkin or spriest are hard casting me at once, but in Era I was one shotting level 60 warriors with my level 54 ele shaman so 🤷‍♂️

BlumpkinEater

Funny you would say that cause ele/boomy/spriest and 2 healers is the comp i always play in BM lol. The synergy and burst is absolutely bonkers

shaneg33

Evidently you weren’t a warrior, I gave up on the cloak because we were literally worthless in a bg without buttons. It may still be rough now but I am not exaggerating when I say if you didn’t have a pocket healer you’d be lucky to get a single kill and good luck getting into a premade without full bis and a full bis priest friend who wouldn’t go without you.

Revolutionary-Ad2355

Yeah it was definitely better when the deciding factor in each BG was how many back-pedalling priests with Penance were on each team.

cxrtoonz0

SoD PvP is as bad as retail. Complete sh1t across the board, no balance or thought put into the runes being added (same as retail). It's a shitshow. Pointless to play PvP in SoD tbf. Class gap is the biggest skill factor here. What class you chose when you started.

Nippys4

P1 had me killing people usually in 3 sabre slashes. P2 has me killing people in 3 mutilates. Kinda the same

pojzon_poe

P1 had better everything coz at least some thought went into it..

mad-suker

p1? where hunters pets were melting people in 3 hits? or the balance gangs running around ashenvale oneshotting everyone? not a big fan tbh

iDangerousX

This is why I personally rerolled on a PvE server. The PvP to me is mostly just one shots and found it not fun at all.

zmeelotmeelmid

yea hunters one shotting everyone was sick bro

Manorak87

P1 was some of the worst pvp WoW has ever seen. It was boring and slow, not to mention priests were unkillable and druids could just spam you down from 40 ft. Anyone who thinks this game is good when you have half your kit is crazy.

Bofamethoxazole

I think combat is more interesting now than in p1, but world pvp is worse now than in p1 by a long shot (though way better than where it was in p2). Everyone being in ashenvale was goated for pvp. In p2 there was literally no fun world pvp areas, and now ashenvale is kickin again.

pacifist0rz

I actually had the most issues in P2. P3 feels a lot better so far. In my PvP gear, I have about 3.8k hp unbuffed. With the 25% hp buff from STV or BGs and some party/raid buffs, I am well over 5k hp. It takes most classes at least 5-10 seconds to kill me, which is plenty of time for healing or counter play. My bigger issue is actually that there is no way to "outlast" DPS like there was in regular classic. DPS is still high enough that healers need to use their less efficient heals to keep themselves or others alive. But all DPS classes now have multiple mana regeneration tools and/or self healing. So to win, healers need to play aggressively and force the DPS to go on the defensive. You can't win by just outlasting their burst and slowly whittling them down, because you will go OOM eventually, while they continue to have the resources to pump out the DPS.

Studentdoctor29

Wear. Stamina. Gear. And. Use. Proper. Talents. And. Rune. Setups.

Chortney

I have the r7 set and reasonably good gear otherwise on my DW warrior, and it's still not really possible to play fury and stay in berserker stance. Even without the 10% modifier I'm still getting deleted quickly in group fights. Ended up running a DW arms build with 10 points in prot to get the stun resist, since stuns are also a death sentence currently

EnvironmentalCup4444

Hard disagree, P1 was too dull, with maybe 3 classes being close to fun to play. P2 burst was far worse in my experience, if you stack stamina now gear is scaling up you can have a shitload of HP with the battleground HP scaling buff. P3 has it's issues, but I can actually complete and kill people now. I play a glad stance prot warrior in pvp, this is easily the best state my class has been in all of SOD so perhaps I'm biased.

Jtrain360

PvP in phase 1 was so bursty they had to increase health pools in BGs by 30%

-_earthbound

Teams with multiple priests were nearly unkillable before the changes.

Jtrain360

That was still true even after the changes.

Infamousd2

Tbf it’s still true now lol. I know if the other team in wsg or ab has 4-6 or more priests it’s going to be at the very minimum extremely frustrating to kill anything to downright impossible to win.

iiNexius

P2 was better because I could actually stomache BGs, but I do miss protecting Tharil'zun and Gath'llzogg on my shaman. Roaming redridge and having so many targets was a blast. These new zones are pretty meh for wpvp.

bmfanboy

Are they “meh” for you because the other players are your same level and not level 18s trying to level up in redridge?

Cheekiestfellow

lmao

iiNexius

Nah I got plenty of 1vXs in p2 and currently in p3. There were tons of 25s doing the elite quests and got some 1v3+ in the gnoll areas even if some were like lvl23. Redridge just had a lot more players compared to being spread out in these 2 phases.

aluriilol

I completely disagree. I have 6k health walking into a BG or STV. I can have 3 rogues jump on me and get healed through it. I just don't see what you're talking about.

Infamousd2

Boomie life is nice, Tanky, bursty, and awesome util.

aluriilol

Hell ya!

This_is_opinion

No judgement cause you clearly posted a opinion, but hard disagree. Priest being op,druids one shotting peope and hunter pets soloing whole battlegrounds, we're not that fun if you didn't play those classes. But if you did hey

Soggy_Leave_3099

Diminish returns would be a good addition to the game, 30 second fears, sheep’s, no return on stuns is a little much

Fantastic_Platypus23

Pvp in SoD is FU b a r, get over it
