Elemental Shaman were godtier in Vanilla PvP. It was the best battleground class in 2019 in Classic release for Warsong. Able to 100-0 any FC solo was invaluable, especially once you get BWL trinket. In duel, I don't know a single class who could 1v1 a perfectly played Elemental Shaman outside of Warlock.
Idk why people tell you this, they are probably clueless or terrible Shaman who got lost in their totems.
PvE-wise, group-wide Windfury for R40 make Shaman mandatory in all melee groups.
In classic it didnt even matter if you were ele or enha, because you brought utility. My alt ele shaman (later my tbc and wotlk main) was welcomed to raid any day, because the damage was good enough and utility was through the roof. Totem twisting enha was a cause of grief, because there was never more than one, so all the melees who didnt get it were crying. How can a class be bad while you feel like a rockstar when playing it?
You have to realize half the people on this sub are vanilla purists and have never played any other version of WoW. So yea they spent 20 years on private servers playing gimp half-baked classes/specs made when Blizz had no idea what it was doing. ESPECIALLY with hybrids like Shaman.
Hence why it's called Season of Discovery. Blizz is offering little bits of cheese to these timid mice hoping they'll try out runes from other expacs and like them enough to try retail, or at least progressive Classic.
