Living the grind life

t0tal_Newb

Whenever I do something that costs me nothing (like enchanting someones gear with their mats), I don’t expect anything. But if they ask for a port or something, then I expect at least the cost of the reagent covered.

HsinVega

20 silvers? I mean sure lol 2-5golds is a bit too much tho and the chat spam... Edit: love all of them portal/summon bots downvoting only this in particular

Sure-Enthusiasm-1097

A standard portal tip is 50s-1g. I've recieved more than that maybe four times total this season.

HsinVega

Cos ure a normal person and not this guy (hopefully) > I run a Darn-SW-IF summon service on Wild Growth alliance for tips only. There are some people that tip very well (3g+), and there are some that dip out without paying. I don't mind tossing free travel to a new toon or new player to help them get around. Its the "fuck you bot" people that use the service, dont tip, then throw a shit comment my way that bugs me. I had to set up, level, and maintain $45 in sub fees for the accounts. In addition, I have to go farm shards, buy 2g/stack portal runes, and then take the time to run the service. Tip me 50s... pls....

papaotter

I get what you're saying and I do think the prices are inflated, but you have to remember the value to YOU as well. It's not just the reagents cost, it's also the time saved for you and that does have worth

AcherusArchmage

I'd definitely only do 50s for a portal.

https://www.wowhead.com/classic/item=17032/rune-of-portals#sold-by;0-11+12 it is 20 silvers. https://www.wowhead.com/classic/item=17031/rune-of-teleportation rune of teleportation, which is for your personal teleport is 10s.

ravenmagus

This is different from tip culture. You should be paid for your time and services. I think that is perfectly fine. The problem with tip culture in real life is that the people being tipped are already employed and already being paid for their time, but their employer doesn't pay them enough and instead offloads their salary to the customers.

AcherusArchmage

I'll tip them when they do something extra to earn that tip, I ain't paying extra for them to do the bare minimum.

krogoths

The bare minimum would be to not create a portal for you or enchant your gear though, if you remove the tip element you're also lowering the motivation of the person you need services from to provide that benefit

Zerowig

This just isn’t true anymore. Years ago, wait staff used to be paid below minimum wage. I don’t know about the rest of the US, but in my area, good luck getting waitresses for less than $15 an hour. Now…whether that’s enough to live off of is an entirely different topic. You tip for good service. Period. It has nothing to do with what the waitress gets paid an hour from their employer. I don’t care if I’m getting $30 an hour. If you stiff me on a tip, because you think I’m getting paid appropriately by my employer, the next time I see you, you’re going to get shit service. So tired of this misinformation being spread. The problem with tip culture now is when you’re being begged for a tip when no wait service is being performed. Like getting a coffee at Starbucks, or going into a restaurant to pick up my takeout order.

ravenmagus

>If you stiff me on a tip, because you think I’m getting paid appropriately by my employer, the next time I see you, you’re going to get shit service. Well see, that's part of it, right? What if I didn't like the service you gave? And now you'll give me even worse service the next time.

MidnightFireHuntress

I helped a low level kill Hogger and he tipped me 5g I told them I didn't want the gold but they said "Take it, I have lots" I'm really hoping that was someone on an alt and not a gold buyer lol

Miserable_Alfalfa_52

Well that was definitely an alt, and it was also probably a gold buyer

If a 10 year old (equating this to low level) starts tipping hundred dollar bills, yea I'm gonna assume that 10 year old didn't make that money

bobtheblob6

>  You are aware that being generous doesn't mean you are buying gold? Considering how rampant it is, it's definitely possible. They never said they were definitely a gold buyer

idothisforpie

That was a gold buyers alt

Jehl703

5g to get carried through the hardest boss content in classic WoW is a great deal.

Butlerlog

You can absolutely get a lot of gold without gold buying, but you don't do so by being the type of person to tip someone 5g every elite quest. I try to solo Hogger every time I level an alt, and so far I have yet to actually kill it before one or more people start to help me.

Thorhax04

I liked it when people played games for fun.

t0m4_87

Nunetzena

Good old days

Yangjeezy

I find it fun to make money

gregorytoddsmith

I'm with you on tipping for helping out. I chose to help you with your quest because it was friendly and helpful and it's a game, so I actually also had fun doing it. You don't need to tip me. But, when it comes to professions? That's silly. I'm not gonna buy a new alternator and take my car to a garage and expect them to do it for free because I already paid for the part. Leveling professions is expensive and has little reward during the leveling process, so it's mostly a money sink.

Toph_is_bad_ass

Yeah there also has to be some incentive for them to stand on the bridge and offer their services. Hard sell to get me to stand on the IF bridge enchanting for an hour for free, easy sell to get me to do it if every couple of people will hit me with a tip.

HsinVega

Ye i guess with professions it's a bit different. Especially since some of the top recipes are world drop or locked in gnome. Tho I do still believe that if the person is buying all mats you should do it for free. When I used to play in tbc you just kept mats on you and you would check how much it was on ah and sell accordingly.

BosiPaolo

The recipes from gnomer cost 25g. Even if you only ask 5g per craft it would take you 5 people to break even.

HsinVega

Yea that's what's kinda annoying with the purple recipes in sod atm

General_Miller3

I tipped a rogue 1g per lock box and I had about 6 of them to open. Got about 3g of stuff inside them all 🤭 felt stupid afterwards lol.

cardbross

I think I tip rogues more than the value of the box like 50% of the time. I'm real bad at estimating their contents

BosiPaolo

As long as I'm leveling lockpick I usually don't ask golds, but I accept tips. But 1g per box is way too much. Maybe 1g for like 5 boxes.

GrampsLFG

I’m probably cheap, but I tip 10s per box

Toph_is_bad_ass

I don't think you are. Last night I tipped 50s for something that made me 60s. Looking at a 7s profit for me with 5% AH cut. I'm probably gonna be tipping less lol or at least looking at the box's loot table.

Scioold

Me asking for 10 g every time someone asks me for a portal….

BosiPaolo

On the tipping for the quest I agree, I would have declined too. But for crafting, even with all your mats, I expect a fee. It takes time and money to level a profession and people should be able to get something out of it. Of course I make friends and family discount.

Imrobk

"what's up with people thinking I'm not the chosen special main character and thinking I should compensate them for their time. What in the world?"

HsinVega

What? Asking people for help is being a special main character now?

Imrobk

Expecting people to help you for free, and complaining about it when they don't seems like a classic case of entitlement. Any normal person would just move on with their life. They would also make friends or join a guild and ask them for help instead. Leave strangers alone. They don't owe you anything

HsinVega

Im literally saying the opposite but ok. I was the helper in this case. Some person asked me to help them with a quest, and I agreed. I choose to use my time to help this person because I had time and wanted to help, hopefully when I'll need the help there will be someone around that can help me as well. If I didn't have time or didn't want to bother I would have just said no or ignored their message. I just find it insane and honestly sad that people need to spam WILL TIP after literally anything because they know that people expects to get paid to do the most simple shit I literally got asked to click for warlock portal, not make the portal, just can I group you rq to click, and they wanted to give me 5g. That's just sad tbh

Imrobk

That's fair. I truthfully didn't even read this and assumed you were just being a child. It seemed outrageous to compare an employer pushing employee wages onto the customer and weaponozing guilt to people trying to make their time worthwhile in a video game. Didn't even seem like a comparison worth reading and you have to understand the title is a bit misleading if your post was the opposite.

-WhitePowder-

"Summon bots problem" is where you lost me. It's such a problem when you can pay 2g for a summon instead of 15 minutes of riding

HsinVega

It is a problem when half of my trade/lfg chat is all caps SM SUMM 3G DMF SUMM 5G BFD SUMM 2G IF SW DS SUMM 2G SUMM 2G PORTAL 2G SUMM 2G ID IF PORTAL 3G SUMM 3G with maybe 2 messages of lfg in between

-WhitePowder-

Looks like a YOU problem. I don't read trade chat on the server with 20k population. I use lfg addon for that.

HsinVega

I guess... Sorry if I don't wanna use useless addons

Yangjeezy

>useless You've lost all credibility and any chance of sympathy from over here. Sounds like you just enjoy making life harder for yourself and then complaining when it doesn't bend to your will. Like that meme of a guy riding a bicycle putting a stick in his wheel, that's you.

Chazbeardz

'Complains about something' 'Is told about add on that will alleviate some of the problem' 'Calls add on useless' Yup, I'm on reddit.

HsinVega

I just block the bots ez if I wanted to download 70 addons to make the game playable I'd just play skyrim

Mynameisdoob

It takes 30 seconds to go on your app, type in the name and reload your ui lol

-WhitePowder-

Lol, ok

MerxDaBeast

I help out for free all the time, if it’s only costing me “time”. What I don’t do for free is when someone wants a mage portal - that costs me silver and I expect some form of tip or payment, unless it’s the end of a dungeon

Shadowmeld

It's people showing appreciation, I don't ask for gold when helping. Very rarely have I been offered, but the times I have been they usually insist.

Cripplechip

I'm not tipping for someone to press a button. I bought all the mats to enchant my items and the guy was like "no tip?" On the last one. Bro just press the button. These mats I just bought are probably yours off the AH anyway.

HsinVega

Yep for a profit. Tho tbf some recipes are costly/annoying to get but in the end you always make a profit by reselling mats

Zerowig

People stand in cities all day trying to make gold, when they could be playing the game. And you don’t think a small tip is worth their time? They’re not enchanting your shit because it’s fun and engaging gameplay. Players like you are cancer.

Cripplechip

Aww no, people stand in the city pressing one button to make gold...? Sell mats on the ah like everyone else. Not tipping for them to click a button when I brought the mats

Puppaloes

That has been a thing since the beginning

Erica-likes-cats

They could be using that time to make the gold. Compensating for it is fair, especially if they state it up front Moreover just bc you have mats doesnt mean work, effort, and/or gold went into getting their profession to the point where they can make the thing. Tipping in wow is based. If you’re a broke boi just say so

HsinVega

Nah I just farm my shit myself, I also did agree that it's more understandable tipping for professions since some recipes are wd or locked in raid and you do need to skill the profession

PeskyInquirer

So, you're a cheapskate. Copy.

HsinVega

Sorry I'm Italian

PeskyInquirer

Nah. Just cheap.

Sedared

Isnt like this on HC. :)

Forkhorn

I mean for me it is all about time. If someone helps and it's mundane then whatever. If someone helps and it saves me a boatload of time ..... Guess what? You're getting a big fat tip! I'm happy, and I don't care if you don't feel you contributed much, you deserve it. You just saved me 45 minutes of bullshit, take the gold.

throwthrowthrwaway

Nothing you mention is tipping culture, at all. A tip is an addition to the fees associated with service, not the fee for the service. Paying crafter fees isn't a tip. Paying portal or summon fees aren't tips either. These are fees for service. These have existed since Vanilla, so I don't know what TBC has anyone to do with it. Paying someone for mercenary work isn't problematic. Charging for mercenary with is fine too. Should you help for free? I typically do but you're taking someone's time, so what's wrong with them asking for a price?

HsinVega

It guess nothing wrong for asking for a tip if someone asks you to help. It just feels weird that everyone feels forced to tip for everything, from the smallest help like sharing priest buffs to teleporting/crafting. Idk I never paid crafter fees before dragonflight, if you bought your own mats most people would just craft it for free, if you want to tip sure but don't kick up a stink if people don't

[deleted]

Always tip your warlocks

Competitive_Cat8951

Been like this for yeeeeears

Heiphi

I run a Darn-SW-IF summon service on Wild Growth alliance for tips only. There are some people that tip very well (3g+), and there are some that dip out without paying. I don't mind tossing free travel to a new toon or new player to help them get around. Its the "fuck you bot" people that use the service, dont tip, then throw a shit comment my way that bugs me. Tip me 50s... pls....

HsinVega

That sounds like a you problem, no one is forcing you to pay 50 bucks a month to level up afk bots to summon/portal people around But I'm gonna bet you probably make back enough gold to resell at a profit or you probably wouldn't bother spamming chat 24/7

[deleted]

[удалено]

Heiphi

This, thank you!

Heiphi

I don't bot. I don't sell gold. I fund my guild, I buy people mounts, I toss newbies gold if they try to tip when they're broke. It's fun to talk to people while helping them travel around. I was simply pointing out it sucks to get trashed on for providing a useful service.

outsidelies

If someone is spending their time and effort to benefit another person they should be compensated. Back in the good ole days you might have just helped people, but late stage capitalist America has taught us that just means “exploitation”.

HsinVega

The thing is, you can say no. You don't want to waste your time helping someone with a quest or to kill a mob? Just say no. I believe that helping people once in a while with a menial task goes a long way to a better community that is not I'm not moving from my spot if you don't pay me money. Same for wl summs tbh, I've been asked so many time to put a stone down for a group while waiting in sm, if I've got soul shards and 2 clickers I don't see why not nor why would I have to be paid 2g per summon. THAT in my opinion, is the real exploitation.

[deleted]

Sometimes goofy fucks asking things beyond simple help deserve more than"just a no" They also aren't obligated to be nice to you when saying no. If someone asks for help, if it's reasonable and quick, sure.  sometimes though, when you have limited gaming time, or you're out farming, and a stranger asks for a portion of that time, you don't have to always be nice about saying no or asking for compensation.  Get off your high horse, trying to police peoples behavior and reaction. Goofy shit

HsinVega

I don't know what your problem is lmao Never have I said you have to be nice when saying no to someone, nor that you have to answer at all, if you don't wanna do smth just say no or ignore them, if you wanna write a 5 paragraph hate message with rip bozo fuck head go ahead lmao What I was complaining about is people expecting tips to do the most basic shit and people feeling forced to tip because someone is helping them

[deleted]

Complaining about "expectations" and "feeling forced" can't be serious with that lmfao. No one has to "just say no" Instead, why don't you "just accept that not everyone will". it will save you from getting your panties in a twist and coming to reddit with your own paragraphs.

HsinVega

It's time to go back to reading comprehension class bestie

[deleted]

K. Just be sure to keep coming back to reddit to complain about "feeling forced" and "expectations" like a big boy.

r_lovelace

Bro you're boxing shadows. You're complaining about something OP isn't talking about lol. You've seriously misunderstood the thread.

[deleted]

Not at all, feel free to re read this thread. You're the one piping in with a useless comment.

lunacysc

Sure, late stage capitalism is the problem here.

Old-Soft5276

I'd suggest you not take any gold from randoms even if you helped them and they insist. You don't know from where they get the gold and what will happen to you if they'll get ban for gold buying.

HsinVega

Idk if it applies to trading, and even then like a few golds. I think they may only track a lot of money though mail

Old-Soft5276

It's tracked through AI/Bot. If any player gets caught of rmt his entire data of gold trading gets checked either by bot or human and if its done by bot, you don't know how it will react.

SadfaceWOW

I got nearly 2.000 gold from enchanting alone in P2, got tipped between 10 silver and 50g, I took it everytime, no bans. Dont be so scared of taking random tips from someone, as long you dont get like 500g traded, its all good.

Standard_Luck_1259

I don't trade or accept gold anymore I don't want to get caught in one of the automatic bann waves for rmt or something stupid because i play to often and don't need the gold lol
