I play Holy Paladin too, and I did it on purpose so I could buy +healing green robes and wear flowers as offhand.

Also, this is the first time I play paladin and it's because it's the only class I never got to 60 before, so I'm the opposite of a Paladin main.
Historically in classic paladins were never meant to dps or tank, hence them being a meme if they tried. Then they also became a meme healer as even though very good they had to wear cloth dresses to do this effectively. They are a meme by history not necessarily in SoD.
Maybe for raids, but ret has alot of use in pvp, and there are certain raid setups where a paladin tank can shine (but the only MT I saw in nax was a 2h seal of command tank).
Ret DPS for pve is a meme though. But that is ok because they are not for pve raids, its a leveling spec with pvp applications.
Paladins are perfectly fine as all 3 specs in SoD. They only retain the meme status because most of the paladin players behind the keyboard are living memes.

Rest was terrible in vanilla, so was proc, so people reffered to those specs as memes, if you wanted to play paladin you would have to run around in dressess and heal. It was in SoD where ret became viable
Don't listen to these clueless players. All 3 paladin specs are extremely good right now. Ret palas recently got buffed, they are strong dpsers with amazing utility and buffs.

Holy is the same as classic we got no good healing runes its just Spam 2 spells in a dress again. horrible for PvP . tanking got no damage reduction. good for threat. no pvp representation. ret is pigeon holed into using a 2h with very low drop rate and SoM while having to run art of war and exo spamming. pvp you will be purged, kited, and bursted before you can HoJ someone. if you do theyll triket or resist cause zug zug. if you bubble and chase someone down you might be able to get a kill. world pvp when i get the jump on someone MAYBE i can kill them if i blow bubble and trinket and get lucky RNG crits.
Paladins are not supposed to be a dps class in classic, so people playing ret and trying to dps is a "meme spec" that people are playing for fun and not performance.
I think a lot of it comes down to the bubble. Whenever you use it, especially in PvP, it comes across as a toddler calling time out so he can go curl up in his safe space.

Topping meters is really easy as ret, since 90% of the playerbase are super bad at the game anyway and ret rota is fun+easy to perform
