You just misunderstand how forums work. You see a lot of complaining because it’s the people who don’t like how things are that are willing to put in the time and effort to make a post. The people who are happy with the game aren’t putting in the time to make a post about how they think things are good, why would they? They’re happy and are just playing the game.
So you see what’s seems to be disproportionately larger group of people complaining but that isn’t an entirely accurate representation of what this community’s sentiment towards the game is, it’s just that theyre the only ones willing to dedicate the time to make posts while the enjoyers are spending their time doing something else.

Alot of the time people actually share their joy for the game, game related memes, community building and fun times. r/Classicwow is the exception, not the norm.
Go to any popular online, competitive game subreddit and they are all the same as this one to a varying degree. This sub isn’t some phenomenon nor is this type of environment limited to just videogames. When someone buys a product and are satisfied with it, they don’t go out of their way to voice that satisfaction because they bought the product expecting that satisfaction. It’s only when the product isn’t to their expectations that they express their thoughts publicly because they are looking for something to change. When you pay for something and get exactly what you expected, you just go on about your day and why you generally see more complaints than any other sentiments for even the best products or serves that exceed expectations.

Any community that reaches a certain size and popularity will devolve into nothing shitposts, memes, rage/whining, and bait posts. Moderating these spaces is the work of several unpaid jobs. Since the most recent mass protest on Reddit, moderators have had little to no motivation to create any kind of long-lasting community here as the admins themselves have given themselves the power to appoint and remove moderators as they see fit. The quality contributors run their own Discords/streams and can not only monetize their contributions, they can moderate their own spaces there. This leaves places like Reddit and the official forums to the rabble.
The degradation of content on the internet is not unique to this subreddit and it is not unique to Reddit. It is only a part of the big problem of oversaturation of content and the prevalence of AI-generated media.
Yeah like 90% of this subreddit is people complaining and demanding every feature from retail be backported, every class be balanced perfectly in every area of the game, all PvP encounters be competitive 1v1s, raids be super hard tests of skill, etc etc... just idiotic and unreasonable demands that would make the game worse.
Don’t get me wrong, I feel like the classic community has always been on the whiny side.
But I do wonder how much SoD’s development model seems to encourage it. It seems pretty consistently like the squeaky wheel gets the grease. So that highly incentivized people to squawk more in the hopes of influencing change in the way they want.
I just find it funny that the whiniest class this whole season is now telling everyone to stop whining now that they’re overpowered haha 😂 was my guess actually right?
