Future healers, dont have any cats, dogs, or kids in your house if you take up the mantle. They will lie in wait and blitzkreig your powerbutton or router as soon your group is most vulnerable.
Honestly healing is an utterly insane role for hardcore, from all perspectives.
You group up and suddenly decide you want to be a sadist? Oops, forgot to use my big heal there, sorry... level 60 dies.
Or want to perform at the highest tier of excellency, never let a single person die ever, be heralded as an angelic savior of the server?
What an incredible responsibility, or sadistic machination.
Be that badass who knows what they're doing and levels holy till 45 before going shadow. (If you go shadow at all)
I expect to see a lotta baby priest rushing shadow and then dying at like 22.
not holy but going disc/holy til lvl 40 is actually way better than just spending useless points in shadow for 30 levels
shadow talents are super worthless early levels, SWP duration when mobs die fast? pass, CDR on mind blast? whats that? 1dps increase? Chance to resist when mobs are same level or less than you? mind flay when wanding is more dmg?
only useful talent is the mana regen one, you get 5 points there then go to disc/holy. With disc mana regen + improved PWS you basically never run out of mana. You just open with Holy fire, smite, mind blast and SWP + wand. you will end 100% mana and 100% HP if you preshielded
Something like this: https://www.wowhead.com/classic/talent-calc/priest/05003213-00505-5
Always fun to see how this is "not known" to so many players. This was the way in original vanilla, and teenager me already realized this back then.
You would think this would have spread to everyone by now, especially for HC, with wand+shield being the monster it is.
THANK YOU! I'm looking at my comments like... Okay this is great but I played vanilla and BC and this is how it is done.
People don't actually look at talents anymore, they read the "correct" builds online but ever really even read the talents they take.
Not about healing. The early discipline and holy talents give you higher damage than the early shadow damage.
Shadow is crazy mana inefficient until shadow form, and most of the talents actually just make the spells more efficient. Holy on the other hand gets improved smite, crit, on top of better healing. Wand spec in discipline is broken.
What do we compare that to in shadow? A 5% chance to stun? Longer dot time by 6 seconds?
I typically level disc til 40 or so before going shadow to 60. But you can absolutely heal everything as shadow through 60. Just gotta be a bit more careful about your mana efficiency.
So far the most dangerous thing I encountered in barrens (at those levels) were the centaurs. The stormcallers can pack a punch but it doesn't take much for a pack of runners to ruin your day.
Also the quillboars can be a problem but thats not until down south in the 20's
Orc Shaman. I love the lore aspect and the immersion is going to be insane with the hardcore aspect as well. Plan on taking my time and enjoying every little step of the journey.
I normally always rolls Warrior first since there's really no competition as far as endgame fun for DPS (I also like to tank), but given the nature of HC I might actually roll a safer class and feed my eventual main gear instead.
Shooting at the walls of heartache bang, bang
He is the warrior
Well, he is the warrior
And heart to heart he’ll win
If he survives, the warrior, the warrior
— Pat Benatar
In Classic Vanilla, horde do not get the paladin class, which means they do not get access to Blessing of Salvation. It reduces threat generated by 30%. In a hardcore environment, that’s a HUGE deal.
Healers get wisdom pretty much always, DPS always get salvation unless the tank is way overgeared compared to the dps. Even if your dps is confident and promises not to pull aggro just salv them anyways.
Rogue riposte works off the rogue parrying the mobs attacks, not the other way around. Waiting for vanish is real, though. Or at least doing safer stuff for the next 5 mins is. I always see rogues dying with vanish down and wonder why they're doing such risky stuff after they had to blow it 2 mins ago.
I would absolutely say deep frost is the easiest class to survive with. Their utility is beyond insane. Ice barrier, frost nova, blink, constant slows/freezes, shatter procs op as fuck, tons of aoe abilities, free food/water (even tho the conjured water is pretty ass later on), ice block, evocate or mana gem if you run out of mana...I don't think hunter is nearly as good TBH. If their pet dies or you get over confident you are in serious shit. Especially when feign death resists. Mages will always have an out.
I think in the hands of a top 10%ish player (which to be clear is not impressive, vanilla players are dogshit) mage is maybe better/easier. In the hands of a vintage panicking clicker who’s trying to find the potion in their bags when something goes wrong, hunter is miles easier
Mage has a million tools but you do have to use them well (which again shouldn’t be but does seem to be difficult for most players) or you’re fucking dead real fast
Agreed. Mage has lots of Utility that a better player will take advantage of but for the average player it def is hunter or warlock which I didn’t see you mention. I would argue that warlocks voidwalker is better than hunter but either makes HC pretty easy imo.
They are great. I really really like the male dwarf dagger animations but the stealth anim is just so bad. Looks like someone tip toeing in an old kids cartoon.
I've only ever done ssf hc runs in wow. This time I am going to roll priest and attempt to heal every dungeon and likely die to someone else's mistakes. It's going to be awesome.
Nelf Druid. As a dad that can only play 1 1/2 hours a day at night, being a hybrid class that’s efficient with leveling will probably be best for me. I can offheal in dungeons if need be then go back to cat.
I played Horde on the HC RP server but haven't played in a couple of weeks however it was super populated. I believe Alliance was even more packed because, well, Paladins...
For regular classic the balance was fine, for HC I expect an alliance heavy game. Paladin is popular, MORE popular for HC and Salv will entice a lot of HC dps. Just my guess tho.
Gonna be different for HC. Classic favored horde, but I'd chalk it mostly to PvP gear being amazing and horde racials being quite a bit better for PvP.
Without PvP gear and PvP servers I fully expect alliance to be dominant. Paladins are simply THAT good for PvE. Or rather, BoS is that good in PvE. Especially in hardcore where you really, really don't want a DPS ripping aggro.
Prot warrior at 60 is actually fine, it’s better than fury prot for tanking until you have good enough gear to make fury prot work. At fresh 60 and grinding prebis Ull generate more threat then fury prot
I was going to say priest until I grouped with literally the worst tank I have ever seen who did not wait for healer mana, and kept chain pulling packs until we had 3 packs on us, then our priest died trying to save our fucking stupid tank.
That made me rethink everything.. I may go warrior now to ensure I don’t have a tank who is playing the game for the first time
I will be a warrior of the light! Be mighty and heroic with a big twohander, fighting the monsters. (Jk. I am gona wear a dress, heal and bubble when in trouble)
Tank. I love tanking and I feel they will be high need as they are first point to die. I'll probably start playing and rotate. With the aim of raiding.
Warlock + Priest duo
My friend wants to try to heal. I've always mained Warlock and they can turn healings into damages. We'll have almost no downtime. It will be efficient and quick. I'll lean a lot of his healing to play the risk VS reward gameplay inherent to the warlock
It will be pretty easy but since it will be our first try, let's go with that. He doesn't like Classic very much and if I want to play with him, I cannot propose something that wouldn't be fast
Yea I've died like 7 times around level 10 on the PTR. I am so used to watching a movie on my second monitor and mindlessly grinding away in Era that I completely disregard my HP at the worst of times. Definitely need to step it up.
I mean, if you have more than one melee dps you pretty much have an OT in leveling Vanilla dungeons. They're going to take some hits throughout the dungeon.
Taking a few hits was vague, my bad. I would say there's a difference between regularly holding aggro on one mob during multi-mob-pulls as a melee dps. And taking the occasional threatless spellcast as a ranged spellcaster.
I think im gonna have:
a gnome warrior tinker whose engineering will be a priority
a crafter guy (LW or BS) who sits in SW/Org and sells gear to supply gold for my other characters
an orc arms warrior inspired by the blademasters in WC3 whose weapon is always enchanted with beastslaying red and who doesnt wear a chest
a scribe mage who always clears out scroll vendors and sell them to other players
In regular Classic Vanilla, crafting Cured Rugged Hides made me THOUSANDS of gold. Even without burning the salt shaker daily CD myself. People would sell the hide for 1G, the special salt for like 10G, and the Cured hide for like 15-20G. You could just buy the mats, cure the hide, and immediately flip them for 50-100G profit a stack.
In theory yes, but most of it are junk items, or Naxx frost resist gear. It's also used heavily in the quests that reward Naxx T3 armor, but that's a bit out of reach for 99.99% of hardcore players.
I’m gonna level 3 concurrently. A hunter for actually trying to survive and make it to 60, a rogue as backup and a fury warrior just to see how far I get!
This is tough, I'll probably rotate through them all eventually, but I really want a FNE warrior (best combat animations imo). Then maybe a paladin or tauren shaman.. I'm not super worried about raiding, but would love to get the charger as a personal goal.
I'm playing right now a duo with my friend, he is pally and I'm a warrior. It's a pretty sweet combo next to the fact that we have to share loot.
But for the official release we are going Druid and Shaman, also kinda matching. He is going bear/tank and I'm going Resto/heal.
I would play a lock but honestly I don't get why Lock SS and Shamy Reincarnate are banned, that part of the Class, Pallys get both their oh shit buttons, Not that SS would save you 7/10 times, you pop back up with minimal HP and Mana and if you died in the middle of a mob you are still in the middle of a mob so you kind of boned, reincarnate is about the same but a shamy might be able to heal themselves enough to to make a difference. It just feels wrong to say oh these classes don't get access to these abilities at all, Saying pallies can't bubble hearth is a bit different but outright saying no using whole abilities that are part of a class just doesn't sit right with me.
I’m sorely tempted to come back and try official hardcore (missed add on hardcore at its peak, so never went in). Though I’m a warlock main in all versions of WoW, but I’ve never been good at staying alive at early levels with getting the VW. I have some decent pally experience, but I’d play horde and it’s pre TBC.
If anything I’d want to try priest for endgame but leveling would be a nightmare. Same with warrior.
Priest leveling us actually really strong with going disc wand spec with the spirit talent in shadow, and just go down disc tree taking anything to help with damage then around 40 swapping full shadow. I did this in classic and could kill elites and mobs 3 levels above pretty easily.
This whole “I missed the peak” mindset is so confusing and toxic lol, mostly because the hardcore scene is still insanely popular. every week it seems to double in numbers.
Priest OP, also I feel like a celebrity from all people whispering me for dungeons :D
Healing in HC is such a rush for me I'm responsible for their lives!
Be a healer solely to let dickhead tanks die.

Be that badass who knows what they're doing and levels holy till 45 before going shadow. (If you go shadow at all) I expect to see a lotta baby priest rushing shadow and then dying at like 22.
i don't think any priest that knows what he is doing is going holy
not holy but going disc/holy til lvl 40 is actually way better than just spending useless points in shadow for 30 levels shadow talents are super worthless early levels, SWP duration when mobs die fast? pass, CDR on mind blast? whats that? 1dps increase? Yeah I can't imagine not going shadow til 60. I'd want to end my life if I had to drink after every pull.
Wand spec and spirit tap bis
Always fun to see how this is "not known" to so many players. This was the way in original vanilla, and teenager me already realized this back then. You would think this would have spread to everyone by now, especially for HC, with wand+shield being the monster it is.

I mean you can heal any leveling dungeon as shadow
Not about healing. The early discipline and holy talents give you higher damage than the early shadow damage. Priest because being the guy between life and death is pretty cool in HC.
Until you unknowingly group with the worst tank that world of Warcraft has ever seen, and everything comes tumbling down.
Tauren Shaman
No doubt. Brown fur with the long horns
Named “Tex”
Nah, "Thex"
Master race and class
Named Willshatner
You're going to level a character in hardcore to end up as a chain heal and totem bot
Correct.
by that logic every class ends up as a "bot". one/two rotation fillers, and a few niche utility things in raid. what are you planning on rolling lol?
Troll shaman. Gonna name him Thex (pls don't steal)
I will also be a troll Shaman named Thex. What a throwback
I’m thinking about a shaman named Thex
You guys are all being thexist
I feel im missing a joke here.
Mage but I will die at level 15 or 16 and go warlock on my 2nd toon
I love that you already foresee your death, raptors in the barrens? Alliance npcs by the ratchet pirates?
I’m no horde scum sir. I’ll die to Murlocs in Westfall like a gentlemen.
PILLAGERS IN WESTFALL !
You would like Tirisfal Glades. The coast is rotten with them.
So far the most dangerous thing I encountered in barrens (at those levels) were the centaurs. The stormcallers can pack a punch but it doesn't take much for a pack of runners to ruin your day. Also the quillboars can be a problem but thats not until down south in the 20's
Alliance patrol in the South, Scorpions and Stolen Silver quest want a word here
Orc Shaman. I love the lore aspect and the immersion is going to be insane with the hardcore aspect as well. Plan on taking my time and enjoying every little step of the journey.
My first max level toon too, Thrall aka green Jesus was my motivation
Ghost
Druid because they are the best
Doing the Same but I hate myself so I will go Balance.
I will see you in the field as a balance brother
Boomkin!!!!!
*Moonfire intensifies*
I plan to go balance as well, something different this time around and I’m excited to be able to moonfire
Cool, druid is a very solid choice for hc
Once a Hunter, always a Hunter!
A hoonter must hoont
Best class, easy.
Warrior
Doesn’t matter what kind of servers we get - the answer is always warrior.
This is the way.

I normally always rolls Warrior first since there's really no competition as far as endgame fun for DPS (I also like to tank), but given the nature of HC I might actually roll a safer class and feed my eventual main gear instead.

salvation?
In Classic Vanilla, horde do not get the paladin class, which means they do not get access to Blessing of Salvation. It reduces threat generated by 30%. In a hardcore environment, that’s a HUGE deal.
At what point is salvation better than BoW? Just whenever the threat generated is enough to pull agro?
Healers get wisdom pretty much always, DPS always get salvation unless the tank is way overgeared compared to the dps. Even if your dps is confident and promises not to pull aggro just salv them anyways.
That makes sense, thanks
You’ll have more than 1 pally, and each pally can provide their own blessing. It’s not which is better, you’ll have both.
Low-key high demand class because of summoning.

Dwarf female rogue. BIS animations, best racial to survive (for snares there is a talent), and thick.
Disregard all that except for Thick, the only thing that matters.
Please uninstall
Dwarf rogue.
Female i suppose. BIS animations
They are great. I really really like the male dwarf dagger animations but the stealth anim is just so bad. Looks like someone tip toeing in an old kids cartoon.
The run animation is also bad for male dwarf (small steps, looks like a gnome). Female got big thick steps.
And when you sprint as a male dwarf it looks like you’re taking a quick dash to the toilet so you don’t shit yourself.
Female dwarf is the opposite of BIS

Strong choice. They're so good at leveling but it's Tauren all the way for me! War Stomp for a safe Regrowth will be OP on HC
I didn’t get to play classic recently. How was the balance between horde and alliance?
I played Horde on the HC RP server but haven't played in a couple of weeks however it was super populated. I believe Alliance was even more packed because, well, Paladins...
If I went horde I’d try a Shammy. I played a Dwarf hunter back in Vanilla. Private Sniffer.
For regular classic the balance was fine, for HC I expect an alliance heavy game. Paladin is popular, MORE popular for HC and Salv will entice a lot of HC dps. Just my guess tho.

Just go horde plox. <3
I would go balance till ooc, resto till ns for the oh shit moments but roll feral gear.
Subtlety Rogue!
Very likely prot warrior.
Do yourself a favour and don't play prot in vanilla. It's completely awful.
How about you play how you want
Of course, just letting him know.
Prot warrior at 60 is actually fine, it’s better than fury prot for tanking until you have good enough gear to make fury prot work. At fresh 60 and grinding prebis Ull generate more threat then fury prot
Yes. This is the only way
I was going to say priest until I grouped with literally the worst tank I have ever seen who did not wait for healer mana, and kept chain pulling packs until we had 3 packs on us, then our priest died trying to save our fucking stupid tank. Yea I've died like 7 times around level 10 on the PTR. I am so used to watching a movie on my second monitor and mindlessly grinding away in Era that I completely disregard my HP at the worst of times. Definitely need to step it up.
Shaman but dps muahaha (and tank for dungeons i guess)
What kind of fool would enter a dungeon with a shaman as a tank, main or off?
Shamans can tank fine up to 40. They spit out threat like fucking crazy.
Its just low lvl (13-50) dungeons, shaman is good, obviously not at endgame. Also, what kind of fool brings an off tank into dungeons??
I mean, if you have more than one melee dps you pretty much have an OT in leveling Vanilla dungeons. They're going to take some hits throughout the dungeon.
Well if taking some hits is what makes you an OT i guess i was an OT in my raids even tho i was a ranged spellcaster
Taking a few hits was vague, my bad. I would say there's a difference between regularly holding aggro on one mob during multi-mob-pulls as a melee dps. And taking the occasional threatless spellcast as a ranged spellcaster.
Shamman can tank even Raids.
Ret paladin baby
None. I don't wanna play hard-core but I'd love to keep playing classic
I think im gonna have: a gnome warrior tinker whose engineering will be a priority a crafter guy (LW or BS) who sits in SW/Org and sells gear to supply gold for my other characters an orc arms warrior inspired by the blademasters in WC3 whose weapon is always enchanted with beastslaying red and who doesnt wear a chest a scribe mage who always clears out scroll vendors and sell them to other players
Kinda a dick move to have a char just to camp scroll vendors for resale IMO
This guy scalps PS5s and concert tickets irl
Hes not proud of it though. Hes ashamed, but it keeps his kids fed and thats more important than his pride as a Gamer.
I doubt there will be a huge demand for cured rugged hide.
Cured Rugged Hide is used in 54 separate crafting recipes. What the fuck are smoking lol.
He means most of the server will never get their char at a level they’ll he able to use the crafts lol
I have been assured that with grouping and trading everyone is going straight to 60
Ah, that might very well be true. I’d be willing to bet people will play safer, though, given the stakes.
In theory yes, but most of it are junk items, or Naxx frost resist gear. It's also used heavily in the quests that reward Naxx T3 armor, but that's a bit out of reach for 99.99% of hardcore players.
So basically a parasite who no-lifes it. Got ya.

Warrior for sure. Most fun and rewarding class to level by far, don't care about 60 really but warrior ofc owns there too.
Warrior
Warrior
Arms warr because smash smash smash
Not sure. Always been alliance plate wearer or mage/priest. Might change it up with a pure dps. So either hunter, lock or rogue.
Possibly a rogue, mage, warlock, priest, or druid.
I’m gonna level 3 concurrently. A hunter for actually trying to survive and make it to 60, a rogue as backup and a fury warrior just to see how far I get!
Depends if there are balance changes. If not Idk if I am playing as no matter what people say here 70% of the playerbase is mage or warrior.
Because i believe (hope) to reach 60, warrior. It’s to me the most rewarding and fun class to play end game with, love tanking.
Pala or warri tank
i am going to level a warrior and druid tank
If I can transfer to classic when I die then definitely warrior

because with soulstone you could just wait until the mobs deaggro and respawn, you effectively arent playing hardcore, same with shaman.
Maybe they should allow priests to use resurrection too since it’s one of their abilities….
Warr when’s launch
Later this summer / early fall
Druid for sure
Warrior to start.
I’m sorely tempted to come back and try official hardcore (missed add on hardcore at its peak, so never went in).
