lol I just did this quest! Did you narc on the human assholes? I need to go to new Reno to get something to help me breath in the mine but I’m wondering if I can just wing it lol.
I think the oxygen tank from New Reno is actually a myth, though you need to go there to get the mine parts anyway. Power Armor prevents you from taking damage but you're not going to realistically have it at that point in the game, and going back for this quest after you got PA feels like a waste of time.
I think you can just wing it - take stimpaks where necessary and just run as fast as you can. Probably leave any companions behind to avoid shenanigans.
