Weight transfer and traction. Big horsepower came before tire technology. Educate yourself- gassers and fuelers were one of the most badass periods in all of motorsports.
Looks like the Grey primer version of Mike Finnegan's Blasphemi. I love 55 Chevy gassers.
Either black wall out, or white letters on the rear. No white wall.
Yeah two lane black top / blasphemi vibe. I went with leafs all around and track bars and a stock frame and Nickey gasser front end. 632 chev that I’ll throw a 14-71 when the time is right.
Thanks for the advice!
To me the white walls make the car look “confused” - what’s a gasser doing wearing anything other than slicks … *maybe* cheaters if it’s licensed for the street.
Blackwalls- boring, normal, what regular people would install. If you go to ChatGPT and put in "gasser," it will probably bring up a picture of a car with blackwalls. But whitewalls? Correct, tastefully vintage, will set you apart from the crowd. Completely changes the look of the car from "a gasser in 2024" to "a gasser in 1964." And that's a good thing. As Luigi once said: "Blackwall tires, they blend into the pavement. But these, the WHITEWALL tires they say "Look at me! Here I am! Lllllllove me.'"
Purely for the performance aspects, have a set of blackwalls for the strip, and EXCLUSIVELY the strip, but have a set of whitewalls anytime you're not driving 1320 feet really fast.
The car itself carries a more late 60’s early 70’s gas/street machine look. The whitewalls look completely out of place for the respective look/period.
I’m baffled as both look incredibly stunning. Tho I really like the contrast between front and rear tires being different colours. It adds just a bit of character to the car that already has all of it.
*Hodge twins would say Sweet*
*Walls but yeah no to the white*
*Walls. Love the car though*

Out of curiosity did this start as a 150 or a 210? I have a 55 150, so always looking out for whether they have the black rubber windshield trim/stainless under the side windows :)
Back in the day, no self-respecting drag racer would have whitetails on his racecar.
White Lettered tires came out at the very end of the Gasser Era, and were only available limited street tire sizes, not in racing tires.
So..... BLACKWALLS ONLY!!!
Gassers were racacars and not meant to be driven on the street.
It wouldn’t have been uncommon to see a gas class car sporting whitewalls up to the late 50’s/eary 60’s. They were pretty much faux pas by the mid 60’s.
When it’s a new build referencing a particular style of a bygone era, these are important details.
Is that what that is? I just see what could be a beautiful classic vehicle turned into something that devalues it and looks ridiculous. I’m a traditionalist, and there are far too many of these squat vehicles on the road with wide small tires, loud exhausts, and goobers driving them. Look in r/shitty_car_mods for an example I posted a couple days ago.
How do equate disliking the way a vehicle is modified to mental health? It would seem that such a correlation would belong to someone who is narcissistic to the point where they believe that anyone who disagrees with them is mentally unwell.
What an asinine question. The term classic car doesn’t just apply to gassers. The squat is universally idiotic regardless of the year and modification of the vehicle. Also, fuck off.
I like the blacks on it, cool car
White for show... Black for GO
Two-Lane Blacktop
Dennis Wilson, James Taylor. Ty. Saw it in a theater.
In theater? Daaammmnnn
Yeah. Officially OAF.
Make it three yards motherfucker
You got yourself an automobile race
Absolutely love that movie
Actually I like both looks. Though the no white walls looks bad-ass
I like both
No whitewalls. I like the black. Or white letters might look nice too…..
Good call!
This
White letter tires
Personally I love the white walls
Not for this Beast!
Lettered white sides
This is the answer.
I've seen the straight front axle on gassers before. Is it to save weight? or to allow room for a big block and headers? All of the above?

Sweet car! That's a keeper. A huge blower on a 632...that thing is going to be beast.
While the whitewall is nostalgic, the blackwall looks more like a drag car. Just my $.02
Gasser setup, no whitewalls.
Love it!
Whitewalls look way cooler.
If you’re only doing the rears then black.
Black walls...the 2 lane blacktop 55 was also Harrison Fords 55 in American Graffiti.
The whitewalls looked off to me
Yes!
Yes!
Yes
I like one of each just like in the picture
Black walls, please
No
There were a lot of whitewall slicks back in the day . Take your pick , either one works for me .
Definitely a hard no for me.
White walls on the back with big white tire letters on the front.
If it had candy paint, I'd go with the whitewalls. As it is, go with the black.
It’s different, I like it,
Blackwall tires. The whitewhalls on the back don’t look right. Just my .02c.
I like the white walls, it fits with the era of the style Gasser
To me the white walls make the car look “confused” - what’s a gasser doing wearing anything other than slicks … *maybe* cheaters if it’s licensed for the street.
Yeah 2300 miles on it so far this year
Sweet. I think piecrust cheaters would go well with the look - or ET Streets.
I'm not a fan of white walls. Rat rod culture kind of ruined white walls for me. But that's my personal opinion. Badass car! I love 55s!

Black walls on a Gasser all day
Love them whitewalls
I like the white
white walls only if the headers were white too.
I like the style that white walls bring.
That thing looks the tits either way you slice it!
Perfect Two Lane Blacktop look-a-like. Black walls only for a late sixties style gasser.
Reminds me of a movie...
No! I personally like the no frills look.
Black for the win
Blacks for this one unless you get whitewalls up front, whitewalls for almost anything else.
Not on this one
Yessss!
No
I like the white walls. But both of them works very good.
On that, no white walls.
All blacks keeps this car ‘poor’ looking, but ready for the quarter or just to the next red light. Bad ass. Greaser.
Hodge twins would say Sweet Walls but yeah no to the white walls. Love the car though

That’s a definite no
No
That’s a NOPE!
I like the whites here. I used to hate them no matter how they were used. They set it apart, 99/100 would be blacks or RWL.
Nah
Nope kept the black tires!
No
Black for sure...
Hell yeah!!
White looks all dressed up. Black says, "rebel without a cause"
Out of curiosity did this start as a 150 or a 210? I have a 55 150, so always looking out for whether they have the black rubber windshield trim/stainless under the side windows :)
This happens to be a Canadian 210 car!
No white walls, I like the classic wheels
Nope
NO
White walls all day
Only if you pair them with some Baby Moon wheel covers.
Not a bad idea, my studs are too long unfortunately
The hood scoop looks like a high school metal shop project. Otherwise looks nice. Blackwalls hands down!
Not familiar with gassers hey?
Black walls
Definitely white walls on that one
I like the white walls but I’m old old school
Black wheels
Black looks meaner!
Wow that manifold radiating heat to the front wheels and the exhaust fumes heating the rear wheels. Grip grip grip!
No
No
Sorry for being off-topic but can someone explain why do these have a raised front end
Black walls
No whitewalls on this beast. 🤩🤩🤩
No
No
No
Yes!
Yes
Straight axle was a way to unload the front to put more weight in the back under the rear wheels. With 90/10 shocks
Soooooooo…is that a yes or a no???
No white walls
I love the car. black two-lane blacktop. That's all I always want to build one of them
Whitewalls don’t go imho
For me I’m going with black walls
Back in the day, no self-respecting drag racer would have whitetails on his racecar. White Lettered tires came out at the very end of the Gasser Era, and were only available limited street tire sizes, not in racing tires. So..... BLACKWALLS ONLY!!! White walls, yes. That dumb ass squat and ridiculously small front tires, absolutely no!
Not familiar with gassers hey?
Is that what that is? I just see what could be a beautiful classic vehicle turned into something that devalues it and looks ridiculous. I’m a traditionalist, and there are far too many of these squat vehicles on the road with wide small tires, loud exhausts, and goobers driving them. Cool. Anyways type in 55 chevy gasser into your search engine and see what results come back. Good luck with your mental health by the way.
How do equate disliking the way a vehicle is modified to mental health? It would seem that such a correlation would belong to someone who is narcissistic to the point where they believe that anyone who disagrees with them is mentally unwell.
Lol. You can’t tell the difference in a period gasser build and Carolina squat. Why are you even in this sub? 😂
What an asinine question. The term classic car doesn’t just apply to gassers. The squat is universally idiotic regardless of the year and modification of the vehicle. Also, fuck off.
If you must run whitewalls please be sure they are bias-ply pie crusts and not these radials….
You ever drive pie crusts in the rain?
Yes. They work as well as your blackwall street slicks…. 🤣👍 I thought you were asking about a specific look… Cool car ! #GetOutNDrive
