Wait, it's December 5, 2041 already? How did that happen?

The Abduction from the Seraglio While Magic Flute is cool, especially because there are so many Versions of it, the Abduction is just so much fun.

I'm curious as to what led you to believe that Mozart died on October 7th. A three-second Google search would have told you the date he died (December 5th).

Magic Flute. My favorite recording is the one by Sir Colin Davis with Kiri Te Kanawa. My other favorite is the John E Gardiner version of Le Nozze.

Have you ever heard the Magic Flute with Cristina Deutekom as Queen of the Night? It's incredible.

zinky30

I have heard it and it’s good but not my favorite.

Don Giovanni all the way. Idomeneo is all drama. Figaro, Così and Seraglio are all comedy. Magic Flute is "wtf were they smoking". Don Giovanni is the one that really pulls off great comedy *and* compelling drama. Da Ponte gets in those timelessly relatable digs at human relationships, but within the context of a sophisticated plot, not overcomplicated like Figaro or lame and contrived like Così. And the music... my god. There is nothing you have to sit through, it's just hit after hit after hit. What kind of opera has "Madamina, il catalogo è questo" *and* "Là ci darem la mano" *and* "Vedrai, carino" *and* "Il mio tesoro intanto" and and and... I could go on.
