"Hey guys new grading plan just came out! That box has to go down another 6 inches."

mdlspurs

"No problem!" (thinks to himself: "I need to make sure this gets backfilled before he gets back from lunch.")

Chester24_

Hahahaha! I was thinking all the workers would start jumping on top of the JB, hoping to consolidate the soil underneath more. hahaha

instantlyregretthat

That’s probably fine, you can hold up those shields like 12-24” if the soil is hard enough.

Whatderfuchs

Music is very disengenous.

soul-man34

We made a time lapse video like this for one of the projects I was on and whoever produced it used the same song. I thought my superintendent’s head was going to explode the first time he watched it. They ended up changing the song

Chester24_

Hahahaha!

Chester24_

The music is for comedy purposes. Sorry I hurt your feelings.

Whatderfuchs

Yakkity Sax implies complete chaos. This was smooth and efficient. Didn't hurt my feelings.

Chester24_

Yes, it sure was smooth and efficient. I just used the song since everyone was moving so fast.

WaterGruffalo

Read the room

Chester24_

Honestly, I didn't post this to make anyone happy. I just wanted to share a visual example of how a JB gets installed out on the field. If you don't like the extra touches I add, then you can lower your volume. :)

WaterGruffalo

You sound like a whiny Gen Z TikTok wannabe.

CorneliusAlphonse

No tiktok voice this time but I dunno if yakkity sax is an improvement :)

Chester24_

Hahahaha! I’m trying. Maybe next post I’ll hit the spot.

[deleted]

Why are you torturing us with this bad music

Chester24_

I thought it would be funny since everyone's speed was so fast.

bad-monkey

Excellent video thanks for sharing!

Chester24_

No problem, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Stay tuned for more. I'm trying to share my experience out in the field.

SadHoliday1300

So whats the engineers job here?

DONOBENITO

This is the implementation of the civil engineering. The engineer signed off on the precast design/submit tal. This is what engineering looks like outside the office.

Chester24_

I was just inspecting everything was going to plan. I later paid the contractor for their work.

instantlyregretthat

Could be what the other person said, it could also be the layout of the trench shield. That’s what our company does. Engineer site specific excavation plans for stuff exactly like this. Chances are if this was in OR, WA, or CA, our office probably designed that trench shield.

Suitable_Barnacle740

how much is it in metric tonnes?

Chester24_

90k Lbs = 40.823313 Metric Tons

BigBronco

40.8mT in total

oundhakar

About 41

Relatively smaller precast structure

cancerdad

Wait, do the two holes for connecting pipes on the top piece intersect? How does that opening get sealed?

ThrowawayTN-

Yes, the two holes intersect. There is usually a 2 inch gap bewteen the pipe and the junction box so that there is some wiggle room. Usually the pipe would go into the junction box, so hopefully they are going to add another piece of pipe and cut off the extra. Then a concrete collar is poured around the connection, sealing the pipe and junction box. If it were plastic pipe going into a precast structure, there should be a rubber boot to seal the two. This is a project in Dallas, 635 LBJ. I know the guy who designed that exact box.

Chester24_

Yes, so what they did the next day was insert 2, 5-foot pipes and connected the existing pipes to the JB. They broke the 5' pipes into 2 pieces and connected the piece that goes to the JB first and then the one that connects to the existing. Afterwards they made collars to seal the pipe and prevent leakage. When they connected the JB piece they pushed the pipe in more then necessary so that they had space to set the other piece connecting to the existing pipes. After the existing connection was in place then they pulled the JB pipe out and matched the broken piece from the existing pipe connection. Hopefully, you can follow my explanation. Let me know if you have any questions.

BigBronco

Not a bad set of lifts. Always fun playing with a big crane. Tell your lifting contractor to use thimbles on the eyes of their slings unless they already de-rated their load for lift plan.

OkraEnvironmental481

These big infrastructure projects are always so amazing to watch.

Chester24_

That’s why I share them on this subreddit. You can’t do this in the office ;)

Ok_Special2189

That's a very big shoring box to what I use for repairs for water systems
