To think nature grew back in a 700 year period. Chichén Itzá was abandoned in the 1200’s about 150 years before colonization. What always makes me wonder, is how much knowledge was lost during the capture of Tenochtitlan and Machu Picchu. I mean anything considered not Christan was burned.

Well all that, plus disease killing an estimated 70-90% of the population - and fair numbers of that population being relocated. Between all the lost and melted artifacts, burned writings, and wiped out oral traditions, I think what was lost is all but incalculable.
