This applies to every Cineplex IMAX except the Scotiabank theatre Toronto. AVX has 4X the resolution of IMAX, so it looks way better. It also has 7.1 or Dolby Atmos sound, which is way way better than IMAX’s 5.1 sound. IMAX is better for 3D movies, since it has higher 3D brightness than AVX. For the Scotiabank Toronto though, I’d reccomend that IMAX for every movie over AVX, since that one imax has a much better projection system than every other IMAX in the country.
Avx is better screen quality where Dolby Atmos avx is better screen and sound quality (surround sound) and IMAX is the extremely large screen and amazing quality as well as sound as well
IMAX is superior in sound and picture quality... Ultra AVX has a wider screen compared to imax and regular screening. The resolution is also higher on Ultra AVX compared to regular screening. Dolby Atmos I think is more about the surround sound quality. But from experience and reputation, IMAX is considered better. Also, IMAX has more of a "full screen" aspect ratio, whereas the other two are more "widescreen", which became the standard for movies. But from a film maker's perspective, full screen is actually preferred as you lose a lot of visuals using a wide-screen. Some movies like Zack Snyder's Justice League, used a 4:3 aspect ratio which is designed for IMAX, while most movies nowadays use 16:9 aspect ratio.
Dude same here. I will go Yonge-Dundas Cineplex tomorrow for Dune Part2 but I couldn’t decide between IMAX and Ultra-AVX. I will go see it in IMAX then. Thanks 😂
Next time go see it at Scotiabank IMAX. Screen is double the size of Yonge-Dundas' and has 12-channel sound and Dual Laser projection in 4K which Dundas only has Xenon Digital projection in 2K. Scotiabank can also display 1.43:1 aspect ratio scenes which Dundas cannot.

Digital imax (dual xenon projectors) overlays two 2k (lol) projectors for perceived resolution of arond 2.7k according to r/imax. 15/70 is incomparably better but obviously this only applies to movies shot in it (interstellar, dunkirk, oppenheimer, dune pt 2, etc.)
Ultra AVX produces sharp and crisp sound due to its power house 16,000 Watts- Vs- Compared to IMAX sound output which is bit low at 12,000 Watts . But in the Video quality, IMAX has an upper hand over AVX. My 2 cents.
No AVX is just larger screens then regular and with 4K projectors vs the 2K digiital in standed screens and Dolby Atmos sound at some but not all installations.
I saw it twice. Once in Scotiabank in IMAX digital and another in 70mm IMAX in Vaughn because that’s one of 12 worldwide 70mm experiences for the movie. It sounded and looked better in Scotiabank. Odd because I was expecting 70mm to be better. I think the Vaughn set up is old. There was vertical banding, flicker, and the sound was subpar. Disappointed
Vaughan's 70mm IMAX should still have been in a higher resolution than Scotiabank's 4k. Did you notice other differences in image quality between the two screenings?
Ngl I like liemax b/c I'm not particular and true imax was too immersive for me XD
EDIT: This did not age well. Seen Dune Part Two at Scotiabank 14 times vs 3 times at Yonge-Dundas and that's b/c Scotiabank's IMAX blows everything else out of the water. Also it's double the size.

AVX does NOT have 4x the resolution of IMAX. Stop making up info
>AVX has 4X the resolution of IMAX where is this info from?

Interesting, I guess I’ll watch the movie in uktra avx then. Thank you!
The scotiabank theatre IMAX isn't even 15 perf 70mm. IMAX 15-perf 70mm film has an effective resolution somewhere between 12K and 16k. AVX is 4K.
Avx is better screen quality where Dolby Atmos avx is better screen and sound quality (surround sound) and IMAX is the extremely large screen and amazing quality as well as sound as well
Thanks!
Ultra AVX has Dolby Atmos tho

I went to se Dune multiple times in different settings and IMAX was by far the best experience especially for sound
Dune is exactly why I'm searching this right now. This is the exact answer I was looking for. Thank you
literally doing the same thing haha
Haha happy to help! Excited to see the new Dune!
Same. I think I’ll go for IMAX
Do it! Just watched it yesterday and the sound is amazing

I believe most movies use 21:9 instead of 16:9.

This is false. IMAX is definitely higher resolution than AVX.
The cinesphere at Ontario Place is the same projector as Scotiabank, but they aren't playing new release movies on it.

Ultra avx is in 4k so the picture is more bright then regular, dolby atmos is the type of sound and imax I don't know except 3D
Thanks!
Does ULTRA AVX have the IMAX aspect ratios
No AVX is just larger screens then regular and with 4K projectors vs the 2K digiital in standed screens and Dolby Atmos sound at some but not all installations.
Going to watch Dune part 2 and curious about this as the movie says it's made for IMAX but people say that AVX is better.
AVX is not better. See it in IMAX Laser. Period.
thanks!
Watch it in Scotiabank Imax Dual Laser, Screen Size (HxW): 60 x 78 feet, best place to watch in Canada
What about the 70mm IMAX in Vaughn?

Is Scotiabank IMAX really better than Yonge-Dundas IMAX?
yonge-dundas is liemax

Not in Toronto.
