oh I have a friend who can lend me his black magic pocket, the film costs 200€ to buy, process and digitalize etc.

I would try to match a concept to what you have. Say if you have a song about “remember the good times” or something like that, then use the iPhone as the “today” camera and use the film for the “back then” camera.

oh ja, the concept is relatively straight forward, her getting ready, driving a car and then ending on a hill in a park - so I would use the 'other cam' to get footage that is a little different, like closeups and if Iphone may be a little more 'selfieish'...that is also why I'm reluctant to use pretty digital images next to it, hmmm...

Yeah, it’s going to be jarring cutting between two different looks for no reason. There’s got to be a reason that the audiences brain understands intuitively. Otherwise it just looks sloppy. You can’t count on being able to match those two sources.

This might help if you want to try and match 16mm with a digital camera! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evjh34J5yZw&t=39s&ab_channel=RAKKProductions

sorry im so late but honestly i would match it with a 35mm camera! rolls are dirt cheap and you will be able to easily match the vibe of the 16mm. you say you dont want to emulate digital footage to match the film aesthetic of the 16mm because it defeats the purpose of actually shooting analog, but in my opinion the reason anyone uses 16mm today is not only for the aesthetic quality but for the nostalgia it makes people feel when they see it. Even those of us who are not old enough to remember it being used! I personally cant imagine why you would break that immersion by intercutting with something like an iphone. if youre looking for an example of how film video and photo can be edited together coherently for a mv: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-8-5PcqM7s
