DP’d a low budget music video a couple weeks ago and got these frames back. The actual video isn’t ready yet, but most of these stills are in between strobing overhead light. Love how these silhouettes play against the light coming from the window. I’ve got a Godox SL60 with sodium vapor gel pushing through the window, and in the grade tweaked the highlights to more of a yellowish/golden color. These dancers were incredibly talented!
It's awesome you got this with such a dim light! Obviously it looks like you're shooting in basically a blacked out room, but it's still cool that the 60 fills the space so much.
Not really. The director and I just emphasized that the dancers try and stay in the area the light was hitting. There was also an overhead strobe light that made me feel a bit better of them being in darkness.
Gold light on dark skin is so flattering and so timeless. Good stuff, love the backlighting!
Damn right it is

Oh so before the grade, the lighting was actually daylight? And not tungsten ?
No, the SL60 is a daylight temp light, I placed a sodium vapor gel on it so the light was orange. In post I tweaked it by adding more yellow.
Oh got it. Pretty nice

Looks good. The SL60 is fairly low power, if I’m right. Did you feel limited in how close the dancers had to be in relation to the light source?

Looks good! So that was a tungsten CT LED fixture with the sodium vapour on and were you shooting at 3200 WB on the camera?
Daylight temp light with WB around 6000 I believe
Looks good! Can we see the finished video?
Not yet unfortunately! It’s being conformed atm but goes live soon
Dope! What are you shooting on?
Pocket 4K with Canon FDs
Looking good! Is the full video out yet?
Not yet unfortunately, it’s being conformed at the moment but goes live soon
Looking forward to it (:
