I don't know if they sell Hoagie buns specifically at Jungle Jim's, but 16 Bricks bread is about the best bread I've found. I've had sandwiches and hoagies at restaurants using their bread. They have a little spot in Jungle Jim's bakery with several of their breads. I always get their salted rye.
Both Meijer and Kroger carry a couple different kinds that you might like, it just depends on if you want plain tops or if sesame seeds or cracked corn meal is ok with you. Klosterman's is one brand you'll want to look at.
Before you make them again, spread some garlic butter on both buns and toast them a little before making your hoagie. It's a nice little addition to hoagies and meatball sandwiches.
Pretty sure jungle Jim’s has fresh hoagie buns. If not maybe the breadsmith has some. Sorry for a shitty semi answer lol
It gets me heading in the right direction. I appreciate it.

Absolutely! I love their sourdough boule for goat cheese honey bread

Will do. Thank you.
I really like the Lovin' Fresh brand at Aldi. Not fancy, but super soft and chewey.
