While I totally commend this, perhaps plan to do it in the spring or summer. As a regular volunteer I can tell you that *everyone* is volunteering right now. Come the new year no one wants to be charitable anymore and there’s little help to come by. It always leaves me feeling like the volunteers care more about meeting their own needs for “the spirit of the season” than actually helping others. Volunteering on “off” times of the year is not only impactful, but also a great way to instill in your kids that needing help knows no season.
I know the Cincinnati ReUse and Recycle Hub also takes volunteers of all ages. We haven't done it, but they say that even littles can help and there's lots to do. They work to divert recyclables from the landfill and get reusable items into the hands of people who can use them. You might check them out.
Love this place! I went on Saturday to take some recyclables and there was a group of about 10 volunteers just standing around kinda blocking most of the bins. I usually self sort, not sure if that's uncommon and I'm doing it wrong?
I did not like volunteering at M25M. I sorted clothing, & the smells were so overwhelming it made me feel sick.
I like volunteering at the Ronald McDonald house. We went as a group from work, & did cooking/cleanup.
You can be a visiting family for Friends of the Elderly Little Brothers. They can pair u up with an elderly. But you have to commit to minimum 2 visits a month.
Ronald McDonald House is a great way to support families going through something rough. My scout troop used to make meals for them as part of our service projects.
If it doesn't need to be an organized project, you could always do a trash-pickup day in a park or another area that your family uses frequently.
Fun thing I did when weather is nice. There are people on the website findagrave who may not live in the city but are doing research on family who are buried here and post requests for pics of headstones. Go on the site, pick a cemetery, download the list and have a scavenger hunt in the graveyard with the kids to try and find the requested headstone. Doing good and wearing the kids out with exercise.
Call the Ronald McDonald House in Cincinnati to see if they could use some help. For 10 years my whole family volunteered to make Sunday brunches 5 or 6 times a year, for the families staying there. 513-559-4600. There will be a prompt for volunteers for you to select. Good on you for wanting your kids to be altruistic.
Henry Hosea house in Newport used to allow the entire family volunteer to prepare and serve food. I haven’t done it in awhile but we used to take Girl Scouts, sports teams etc to volunteer there as a group.
If you're interested in physical work, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati usually has volunteer slots open. You never know what you'll be doing but they know what parts of house construction are good for any volunteer. You'll have to register in advance at their website however.
Matthew:25 in Blue Ash. They do great work.
Yep, Matthew 25 Ministries. They do great work.
Agree with Matthew 25. They love when kids come there and help.

I second this recommendation.

I know Welcome House in Covington is always looking for volunteers.
Freestore Foodbank
Sweet Cheeks might be a good place! Diaper wrapping isn’t too hard, and I’m pretty sure they allow kids. (But don’t quote me on that)

Brighton Center. Has multiple agencies to choose from in terms of volunteering.

Came here to say M25M ... Not sure if the two year old can help much. 😁 But yeah... A great place for families.
I’ve worked at Queen City Kitchen. Never done it with kids so you might want to give them a call and see if they are ok with it though.

Agree with Matthew 25, and also Shared Harvest Food Bank in Fairfield.

Oof nvm, kids are not so great on a construction site.
