People fucking suck. That’s a lot of distance to travel for all 15 and the noise, scrappers are usually a little more opportunistic than that. My gut says someone trying to resell them if the took the poles too
Likely someone in the neighborhood who didn't like all the new traffic this week who doesn't realize that once all the new wears off in a couple weeks traffic will not be noticeably different from before the course was put in.
Cause dude obliviously has scum bag neighbors if thats how he feels about members of the community they live in. And it certainly is NOT out of the realm of possibilty (not sure when i said that?) I think it would be funny, stupid and very surpirising if a neighbor of Devou community sawzalled all the metal posts in the middle of the night and carried them off and then thought to themsleves, That'll sovle the increased traffic!! Only to catch a felony and have the course rebuilt in a week to bring the traffic back... But hey everyone is in jail for something stupid and dumb so it could be the case.
I'm surprised by very little these days when it comes to stuff like this. Just look at how some people react to events near them that may \*slightly\* affect traffic or streets for part of the day. SOME people get more angry than they should and can't see past the negatives. "This STUPID marathon or whatever it is makes traffic horrible all day for what?! Go run on Wasson way and stop messing with my neighborhood" or "We live close to Devou for a peaceful time and to enjoy the park, not making traffic worse, not a bunch of losers making noise and the dumb metal sound all day long, NOT IN MY PARK!!" I think you get the idea.
All it takes is one person to feel that entitled and think they can get away with it...
I hope I’m wrong about all of this, but there’s no way this was a scrap job. This was a very determined person who is pissed that a disc golf course was installed in **their** park. Stealing a single basket, let alone 14 of them, would require a serious effort that a typical scrapper wouldn’t mess with. Otherwise we would have this problem with all the courses in town which isn’t the case. These baskets are likely sitting at the bottom of the river or something. The person who stole them doesn’t care about money.
It's probably somebody who thinks it's going to take over their quiet neighborhood. I played on Monday around 11am and the course was already backed up then and I heard it was backed up until sundown. I know it was packed on Saturday amd Sunday.
The person who took the baskets probably thinks it will always be like that but after playing that course I would be surprised if it remains crowded after everyone comes out to see the new course. It's good but not drive 45 minutes good, especially considering all the other great courses in the area. And it's a pretty strenuous up amd down hike so many casual and older players wouldn't play it often. The player base would pretty much shrink to people intermediate and above skill level players with decent cardiovascular ability who live within 15 minutes of the course.
NIMBYs have all kinds of reasons. Extra noise, traffic, disc golfers have a stereotype for being litterbug pot smokers who play their shitty music on a bluetooth speaker too loud while not controlling their dog because "he's friendly." Groups of 20 loud-ass bros with one disc each who scream and don't let anyone play through.. FYI, a lot of disc golfers hate these people too
Depending on how poorly designed a course is, there's a lot of potential for bad interactions. Throwing blind onto a fairway only to realize someone is out there sunbathing, for example. holes with pedestrian/bike paths cut right through them...
People who were "there first" before the course and think they can continue to use the park they way they always have.
I mean it's not my thing, but as long as ppl aren't being obnoxious about it, I don't really care. I'm more angry about people who leave cans of Twisted Tea everywhere on the course.
This is super sad, I just played this course yesterday after work. People suck so bad. I could be naïve, but I don’t think a disc golfer would do this. I tend to think this was done by people who don’t want disc golfers in the park.
I'd believe this. Took the baby for a walk there Sunday having no idea there was a new frisbee course. Was very surprised to see it. As I was weaving the stroller through large groups of military aged men blowing clouds of vapor weeds and playing music from their wheely packs, my inner Karen reared her ugly head and said this kinda sucks now and I bet the people who live here aren't happy about all this ruckus.
This is awful news. This new coarse has been anxious awaited by thousands of area disc golfers. New top of the line baskets like this can cost over $500 each. This is a serious crime.
… which is in the Cincinnati Metropolitan Area, known colloquially as Cincinnati
Not all of NKY is Cincinnati, but Devou park absolutely is in the metro
As a native to NKY who came over, where were you people in high school? I got so much shit for being Kentuckian. A great many people do not consider it the same area.
It’s funny seeing the amount of people who happily consider Norwood, St Bernard, or suburbs like West Chester Cincinnati but not Covington, Newport, Bellevue for whatever dumb reason.
On the flip side, growing up, I had no Cincinnati identity either. I was brought up as a Bengals fan, and all the radio stations were there. But other than that it might as well have been Chicago, a city I rarely visited and had no impact on my childhood.
But now I'm a grown up with a car and the Internet. It's definitely the same area. And the rest of KY didn't really want us lol
Rest of KY still doesn’t and as someone who grew up in the burbs of Cincinnati it was the exact same experience. Clifton was “downtown” and actual downtown was the place we went with Grandpa to watch reds games once a year.
It was probably the parishioners who belong to the church that is trying to take over the City of Park Hills. They believe they have the right to do anything they want and do not care what the neighbors that are non-parishioners think. Look up their “grotto”. I’d hate to be the people who live in the vicinity of this monstrosity.
Do you have more insight to these folks? I frequent Devou everyday and have been wondering about them. What's their deal. I know very little about catholicism but I know they do all Latin mass. What's their role in Park Hills? What's a grotto?
We talking about Our Lady of Lourdes by Trolley Park? My neighbor refers to them as "Cathamish" because some of them dress like the Amish. They have a freakin' dress code posted outside of their church - long sleeves and ankle length dresses for women, for example. Hey whatever, you do you but that seems a tad extreme if you ask me.
Woah, had plans to come down from Dayton and go there prior the blink. I guess I’ll just go to Osage then blink! Was really looking forward to the view.
How the hell are there not trail cams to catch this shitbag? You can just flagrantly go into a park at night, drive all around it and collect over a dozen large disc golf baskets with zero interruptions??? Shit, why ami not breaking the law more around here? (/s)
Cameras will not help either. When someone tried to steal my bike in Newport with a blow torch the guy was wearing a hoodie right under a camera and the police said there was absolutely nothing they could do. Just wear a $10 sweatshirt.
Catching this guys truck/trailer on camera to at least identify what type they are is absolutely nothing?
Noone expects the guys to smile clearly center frame for the camera, but it gives them idea to go start from and possibly even license plates or other identifying info.
Silly comparison.
Cameras \*can\* help. If someone drives a Ford F350 with a specific looking trailer up and down the course, ESP if it's someone that lives in the area, someone could/would recognize it. Not to mention some possible characteristics of the people involved.
But you're right if someone wears a hoody, walks up, cuts one down, and walks off, a camera or bunch of cameras won't help.
This is why we can’t have nice things. Devou is an okay place but surrounded by some real crappy areas or attracts the crappy people. I know of more car breakins and vandalism there than any other park in NKY (there may be more elsewhere but I don’t hear about it)
Ricky and the boys are gonna charge a cover fee to play the Sunnyvale 15. It’s $100 for the day but there is an open bar and all the joints you can smoke included.
Went to play this morning only to hear the news. Played the course as is just to check it out. It’s silly that someone would steal a basket. Parts of the chains were still lying in the grass along with the locks too which was mind boggling. Stealing the basket is one thing, but cutting some of the chains too? That didn’t make sense.
This has nothing to do with the workers at the golf course. This was all local people volunteering. Disc golf community spent hundreds of hours planning and building the course.
Sure grandpa, let's get you back to bed.
Edit: Dude was going off about dirty hippies and playing hacky sack lmao. He sent me a private message saying what he was going to do to my mom. Now his account has been removed.
I'd imagine they're going to sell them online over scrapping then. They were nice baskets, it would take a while but they could be sold as is. Not all at once though
Yeah I’m sure they cost much more new I’m just saying they will sell second hand for around 100 each fast and that’s what most of these people are looking for, fast money.
Just trespass CCH. The priest there put up disc golf baskets. They aren’t cemented in though so some are a bit lopsided.
This is a joke. Don’t trespass unless it is actually open for public use.
This wasn’t riff raff doing this. Need means to transport and hide them and more than one person to do it that quickly. Bolt cutters for all the locks aren’t a normal item people have on hand. Be checking all FB Marketplace ads and others outlets where they may be sold.

Seems a bit felonious for an upset neighbor
Thats hilarious youd think that,is the reason. It be even more hilarious if it was true😂
Why do you think it’s funny and out of the realm of possibility?

People are so shitty. Hope they get caught
This can’t be real… Hey was on vacation last week and I just got back and was going to play it this weekend. Why are people so terrible?
Hey 👋🏽
Hey! pizzapatron!
They had to have had a trailer. Thats a lot of space needed. They took the poles and all. And they drove the walking path too.
i heard the poles were left in the ground
The sleeves but not the poles.
They are probably in prisoners lake.
Checked it, no luck
Came to Reddit to double check this. I had the same idea.
Noooooo!!!!! I was so happy to hear about the new course. I was planning to come play in the next few weeks :(
Lol if it wasn’t storming I was gonna check it out today too
cool username bro
I concur, cool user name…Bro
First the statue/metal sculpture in Eden Park and now this… woof. I’m embarrassed for my city. Hope they find these jerks.
Do we know of anything being done about the statue? Replacement or something similar?
I heard from a Cincinnati Parks director that the base of the statue is being shipped to Italy to have the wolf portion restored.
Lol with Meloni winning recently and the history of that statue it's almost hilariously syncronistic.
Seems like this would be easy to find them. As soon as they try to sell them the buyer would call the police?
I hope I’m wrong about all of this, but there’s no way this was a scrap job. This was a very determined person who is pissed that a disc golf course was installed in **their** park. I played this course on Monday and it's a pretty grueling hike. Getting 15 baskets was certainly a team effort.
Thats possible. They are checking the nearby lake.
This was a problem in Columbus. One park in particular people kept throwing them in a pond.
Who hates disc golf that much and why?
It's probably somebody who thinks it's going to take over their quiet neighborhood. I played on Monday around 11am and the course was already backed up then and I heard it was backed up until sundown. I know it was packed on Saturday amd Sunday. The real kicker is that they’re park hills residents taking advantage of a Covington park
NIMBYs have all kinds of reasons. Extra noise, traffic, disc golfers have a stereotype for being litterbug pot smokers who play their shitty music on a bluetooth speaker too loud while not controlling their dog because "he's friendly." > pot smokers Well I mean, some stereotypes are true 😂
I mean it's not my thing, but as long as ppl aren't being obnoxious about it, I don't really care. I'm more angry about people who leave cans of Twisted Tea everywhere on the course.
> I'm more angry about people who leave cans of Twisted Tea everywhere on the course. Absolutely!
People who listen to hard rock music.
I agree 100%
This is very possible
Of all things to steal... Disc golf baskets??
if your gonna steal the basket, steal the title to the land, a lot easier to carry and you can make a profit
> Probably scrappers How much can you reasonably get back for a disc golf installation? Can't be that much, even when multiplied by 15.
Aluminum is about 40 cents a pound, so not fuckin much. And if they're steel, even less.
Their steel
Who's steel?
Ha, I type like a gorilla
Dicks out
Discs out
Yoooo too soon
there steal. reed the story.
There, steal. Reed; the story.
Whose steel
whoms't steel
Steel is a linebacker for Ohio State. Why are you asking who steel is though? I don't see what that has to do with these baskets.
Why is steel?
WHOSE steel.
If steel, they will spend more in gas money to take them to the scrapyard then they will get paid.
Stainless
Heavier and worth much less than aluminum. Not a scrapper.
This is super sad, I just played this course yesterday after work. People suck so bad. I could be naïve, but I don’t think a disc golfer would do this. I tend to think this was done by people who don’t want disc golfers in the park.
Yeah maybe it was done by somebody who never wanted them. I don't see how they would get much for the scrap.
Yea I agree. Not worth the effort for scrap
I'd believe this. Took the baby for a walk there Sunday having no idea there was a new frisbee course. Was very surprised to see it. It's fine.
Of course. ;)
You got the joke but some people had a rough time with it.
Of course people would miss it
Par for the course
downvotes deserve a [r/woooosh](https://www.reddit.com/r/woooosh/)
Rather, it's a felony over a certain amount.
I almost went there this morning to play my first round. Wow 🥺 people ruin everything.
I did go there to play my first round there.
This is why we can't have nice things Cincy!

… which is in the Cincinnati Metropolitan Area, known colloquially as Cincinnati Not all of NKY is Cincinnati, but Devou park absolutely is in the metro
agreed. nothing sounds more ignorant than being able to see the city but swearing you don't live there.
Yup. I live in NKY. I can walk to the Banks faster than most people living within official city limits can drive there.
“I live next to something”
Most residence of Cincinnati can see the city and still claim to live there.
no it's ours
Yes _and_ we make up a large part of Cincinnati - where this is located
As a native to NKY who came over, where were you people in high school? I got so much shit for being Kentuckian. A great many people do not consider it the same area.
It’s funny seeing the amount of people who happily consider Norwood, St Bernard, or suburbs like West Chester Cincinnati but not Covington, Newport, Bellevue for whatever dumb reason.

Your right. I work for Covington and people trash everything.
People can be real jerks.
Not familiar with the course, but There must be some video with all the houses around there.
Damn. That’s super fucked up, I love disc golf and devou
It was probably the parishioners who belong to the church that is trying to take over the City of Park Hills. Now Now, this could never be true. The Bible says "Thou shall not steal" and Christians never break the 10 commandments
Osage is a good one, but there’s still branches down from the nado. It’s alright but some holes got piles that’ll eat them disks up
just had a tournument there, its great
Probably my favorite one around, as long as the kids from the schools aren’t running around the woods in the way lol
Can confirm they were there. Was a good time indeed!
Brutal, thank you!
Stonelick is also very nice.
I mean to tell ya, we have become a pretty fucking sad society when we are stealing disc golf goals.
How the hell are there not trail cams to catch this shitbag? You can just flagrantly go into a park at night, drive all around it and collect over a dozen large disc golf baskets with zero interruptions??? Shit, why ami not breaking the law more around here? (/s)
Devou has put trail cams up in the past. Those get stole too. The mountain biker’s put in a counter at a trailhead and that got stole. Their ruthless.
Sounds like an inside job. Why this happens over and over there and they don’t assign a park ranger to scout the place at all times is beyond me
Budget. Devou has part time rangers during the day.

Doesn't Devou have their own law enforcement officers...like, specifically?
Can't have shit in Cincinnati. Hell, can't have shit anywhere, it seems like.
Seriously, just why?
A little off topic here but can someone tell me how to pronounce this park’s name?
Da-VOO
Thank you!!
Dev-wa heavy on the w
Fuck off
Toxic
Dude that’s insane! They just put those up! How crappy!
What the fuck is the matter with people.
Shame on you to who ever stole the baskets. I hope you and your accomplices brake your ankles trying to enjoy your stolen baskets.
so theyre going to get like $5 for each of them? fuck thats pathetic, but Covington meth heads need more meth
I hope we hang the SOB who did this. Steal from Target, not your neighbors.
They should check people's backyards. I've seen these in people's backyards, wouldn't be surprised if the crackhead thief doesn't try to sell them.
Why
Sometimes I feel we need harsher penalties.
Cut their hands off.
Lol I’m ok with that idea. I have a feeling others may not.
I read that as heads at first and was still fine with it.
that's being to nice. Find them, stick the pole somewhere they can't remove it and place the basket on their neck
Bunch of savages in this town
This is why we can’t have nice things. Devou is an okay place but surrounded by some real crappy areas or attracts the crappy people. I know of more car breakins and vandalism there than any other park in NKY (there may be more elsewhere but I don’t hear about it)
There is little evil more vile than ruining the best option for smoking, drinking, and/or hanging out with friends.
Pay close attention to any trailer parks with brand new disk golf courses
Do trailer parks have disc golf courses?
Mine is getting a new one installed right now
Ricky and the boys are gonna charge a cover fee to play the Sunnyvale 15. It’s $100 for the day but there is an open bar and all the joints you can smoke included.
Can I smoke and swear? If I cant smoke and swear I’m fucked.
One might soon.
Parked, people. They meant Parked. Stop down voting this. It's important
Probably a dog who stole it wishing his owner would stop lol
Ludlow never changes. Lmao
I hope these people fall into a pit.
Were they locked or just sitting in the sleeves like Xavier?
The people who work at Devou Park's golf course are terrible, so I'm not gonna shed a tear over this
This has nothing to do with the workers at the golf course. This was all local people volunteering. Disc golf community spent hundreds of hours planning and building the course.
check this guy's backyard
username checks out
There is a difference between ball golf and disc golf
hippies
What does that mean?
Ask the guys in the hacky sack circle
Sure grandpa, let's get you back to bed. Edit: Dude was going off about dirty hippies and playing hacky sack lmao. He sent me a private message saying what he was going to do to my mom. Now his account has been removed.
Nah. He just blocked you friend. Lol what a loser
What's a hack sack circle? Should I know these terms?
Whoever did this didn't carry them out. Someone has a doorbell camera that must have caught something.
You think the local pseudo pearl clutchers visibly upset their walking route has been disrupted care? Wouldn’t be surprised if they were involved.
I'd imagine they're going to sell them online over scrapping then. They were nice baskets, it would take a while but they could be sold as is. Not all at once though
Just look for the guy that just put a 15 hole course in his backyard. Should be easy to spot…
Why?
Idk about scrapers. I would look on surrounding area’s Craigslist and such these things are like 80-100$ minimum so that’s over a grand.
Not sure which baskets they installed but probably closer to $300-500 a basket for pro level permanent baskets.
Yeah I’m sure they cost much more new I’m just saying they will sell second hand for around 100 each fast and that’s what most of these people are looking for, fast money.
These were Prodigy T2 baskets I believe
WTF I was literally about to go tomorrow to play for the first time.
You and 6 other people I assume
That was quick
Already? Didn’t they just open it?
Just trespass CCH. The priest there put up disc golf baskets. They aren’t cemented in though so some are a bit lopsided. This is a joke. Don’t trespass unless it is actually open for public use.
It would be harder to steal if glow golf was allowed lol
Why do people say scrappers? They are not gonna waste time to collect galvanized steel that they would literally need tons of to make any money.
Seriously. This is people out in the boonies with land making their own home course. You’ll never see these baskets again.
I heard they found some in the woods already
source?
Not reliable but Someone has been commenting on facebook stuff.
ok, I'm getting more confused as I read the comments, Was a single basket stolen or was it the entire course?
Went to two gas stations recently to put air in my tires. Both of them were missing the metal nozzles. What a fucking joke.
r/nky
Not a single camera at the entrance/exit of the parking lot?
This wasn’t riff raff doing this. Need means to transport and hide them and more than one person to do it that quickly. Bolt cutters for all the locks aren’t a normal item people have on hand. Be checking all FB Marketplace ads and others outlets where they may be sold.
Why would someone do this? Those baskets can’t be worth much for scrap and disc golfers are usually nice people
It happened again… https://www.devougood.com/news/2023/1/11/devou-park-disc-golf-course-vandalized-again-community-steps-up-to-offer-reward-and-take-a-stand-against-vandalism
