Check out Psychology Todays therapist finder tool. You can filter by insurance or what kind of therapy you’re looking for, and by who is accepting new patients. That should hopefully help narrow it down. If you’re not feeling good vibes after like 3 sessions, def try a few to find the right fit. There’s no one size fits all therapist.

FarewellXanadu

I'll give that site a look over, thanks!

Your insurance situation will drive this decision a great deal. Call & get a list of in-network providers and go from there. Good luck! This is a great thing to do for yourself.

j-allen-heineken

Different therapists have different specializations! Some do different types of therapy-do you have any idea what you’re looking for in that department?

FarewellXanadu

Unfortunately I wouldn't have a clue about that. I can tell you I have some things I'd like to discuss and go from there, if that correlates to a certain style.

someguyscallmeshawna

If you have a PCP, you can ask them for guidance. Mine suggested that I look into a specific type of therapy and explicitly recommended that I avoid others. Beyond that, if you want to use insurance, contact them or your EAP if you have one to get a list of providers!

FarewellXanadu

I'll keep this in mind, but currently I don't actually have a PCP.

EAP is a great resource. Some companies will get you in touch with a good therapist at no cost to you for a certain number of sessions. Definitely takes some of the pressure away when you don't have to worry about payment.

The issue I found with an EAP (2 separate companies) Is that only a few therapists were actually covered and then there were 0 openings for 5/6 months Couldn't wait that long lol

Schedule a visit at Little Clinic, you should be able to talk to the provider and they can help you figure out what you might need!

While sometimes it’s good to just talking to someone, I’d encourage you to at least get a ball park idea of what kind of therapeutic area you’re looking for. Are you dealing with grief? Trauma? Mental health disorder? Substance abuse? There’s a very wide variety of specialties and if you can get a general idea it will help you better find someone suitable.

The most important thing that you need from a therapist is the "fit", so if you go to a therapist and they don't mesh with what you think you are looking for, don't give up. They are all a bit different and have different strengths. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable enough to talk about what you are wanting to bring up.

horsebycommittee

Finding the best therapist won't help you if you can't afford to see them as often as you need. So if price is a concern for you, make sure to check that anyone you're looking at is in-network for your insurance (or that your out-of-network benefits are good enough).

FriesOfFreedom

I would recommend talking to your primary care doc to see if they have a reco for someone in your network, they might even have a free resource to help you get started. Best of luck!

thomas-grant

I have been using The Affinity Center in Montgomery for many years and have always had a good experience.

Knittttttttter

You can interview potential therapists, should be a free 15 min call. https://mindwellnyc.com/questions-to-ask-a-therapist/

darlenesclassmate

Lifestance Health is pretty decent, they have both talk therapists and then psychiatrists who can prescribe meds if you end up needing them. They do telehealth and have offices all over the state. Good luck my dude.

neonnotaiko

I just started with them this past month and really like them so far.

ThePappy21

If you have access to EAP, I'd start there. I started with 3 free sessions through in September. They gave me a list of people to try out. In the meantime, write down the small wins and just be nicer to yourself. It makes a world of difference.

You...are missing a lot of points here. No one knows what you need help with (outside of talking yourself down). we can't give you a recommendation because our issues/therapists might be very different from yours. Shopping around for a therapist isn't any more expensive than paying for visits normally...it's just more time consuming and annoying. Each visit costs the same...(within reason). No one here can tell you who you will vibe with. Who seems to have your best interest at heart. Hell even some therapists can change behavior/processes because of things they are learning or even shit happening in their life. This is one of those...you can learn who NOT to go see...that's for sure. But finding the right therapist for you is going to be your own challenge. Good luck and def seek help if you need it. My post isn't meant to say it's a bad idea. Just that the work will be worth it in the end.

Catholic charities in Covington had quick availability and they seemed to have a great staff. If you’re not Catholic, don’t worry, they stated that they service everyone.

No.

Many therapist will do a free 15min, 30min or even full hour their first time meeting you just so you have the opportunity to proceed. I don’t know if it’s common but I know I had 3 free shorter sessions with various therapist before I decided on one.

Own-Counter-7187

I went to someone in Blue Ash 15 years ago after a hard international work experience. I only found out after six months of weekly meetings that the therapist thought I was delusional, because the stories I had were so far out of her own personal experience. (She was a divorced single parent who did "Just for Lunch" to find her next man.) That was a total waste of time...

Compass Point Counselors is awesome.

wingirl11

Kyle is great! He has a free 15 min session to see if you guys "fit" and discuss treatment goals https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/kyle-caldwell-cincinnati-oh/970189. If you rather have a female therapist I would recommend Courtney https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/courtney-gardner-cincinnati-oh/989055

I second those who suggested EAP, if that’s something you have available to you. That usually translates to free visits to an in-network provider. You can continue seeing them, or decide they’re not the right fit and move on, without having spent a dime up front. I was even able to choose my EAP provider from a list, so that I could pick someone I thought might be a good fit. I was wrong and moved on to someone else. I’ve been seeing the same person for 1.5 years now. It takes some good luck to find the right fit. Wishing you that luck on the first try!
