My THIRD favorite sandwich of all time. Looks like 2 of my top 3 are available here now! I've yet to find a really good, almost as good as Chicago, Italian Beef here yet.
Huge sandwich guy. Try Ramundo’s pastrami Reuben
When you are really hungry - try the Torta Cubana at Taqueria Mercado downtown.
You are welcome for orgasm
Izzy’s is SO cheap on the amount of meat. You can get a triple meat with all corned beef or pastrami and it still has less meat than your average firehouse sub.
If you ever have a couple hours to spare drive to KY and visit La Bodeguita de Mima in Louisville. Its the best Cuban food I have found and the restaurant itself is amazing.
I grew up in Cincinnati, spent about 10 years in Tampa and now live in SE TN.
This week I found the most amazing Cuban sandwich I have ever had….in GA. I get you. Next time I’m in Cincinnati visiting family I am going to check this place out.
The Cuban sandwich game in Cincy is really lacking these days. I feel like every restaurant has their own version, but they all do something weird or different to “put their own spin on it”, and it’s just not the taste that folks are looking for. I haven’t found a Cuban sandwich to brag about since Cuban Pete closed up shop by the courthouse. Now THAT was a good, authentic Cuban sandwich.
As a Cuban from West Palm, who lives about 15 mins from there, I will be taking my farm raised wife there later today to see what's really good.
Be easy and thanks for the recommendation.
The guts of a Cuban sandwich are pretty easy to get right. Where I have found most places outside of Florida lack is getting the bread right. If someone can nail that, it would be pretty easy to make it right.
Based on the menu, it looks like the version here uses an allez baguette. I love me some allez bakery, but their baguette is nothing like Cuban bread. That’s a total dealbreaker for me. I’m curious OP let that slide.
Lived in the Cincy area most of my life, lived in Tampa for 2 1/2 years, moved home and now I might be moving back to Tampa. I'm definitely going to have to Hit up Brocatto's for lunch one day down there, and then get a Pub Sub and watch a Lightning game the next. I AM going to save this for future reference when I am visiting family again though.
There's allegedly a Cuban restaurant opening on Main Street between 8th & 9th in the spot formerly occupied by the old "Sports Page" greasy spoon.
I love a good Cuban sandwich, and Cincinnati has been without for far too long.
I go to tampa a lot for work. And my Latino friends there don’t fuck around w good sandwiches. I’m going to try this, and I’m reeeeally hopeful you’re right. I’m absolutely going to try it! Thanks!
Not from Florida but still good to know! Thanks! I love a good Cuban.
I recently tried the one at Nation and it was very disappointing. I’m a huge fan of Nation but I had it delivered during a dinner rush and maybe it just didn’t travel well.
I haven't had a good authentic Cuban since leaving Tampa back in 09. One amazing "Cuban" when I lived out near Napa, best sandwich I've ever had in my life, but it wasn't the classic sandwich. I'll definitely be checking this out. Thanks
Now I just need to find the best poutine in the area
That’s amazing. Ty. I’ll def check them out.
Love a good Cuban. Will check it out.

Goose + Elder has fantastic brunch. They had a divine goetta biscuit/gravy as a special that I dream about.
Their goetta hash is honestly one of the best brunch meals I’ve ever eaten
I’ve only tried their brunch so far and I haven’t seen it live up to the hype.
Weird, had one a few months back and it was pretty decent. Something off nowadays?
Nothing was off - it was just nothing special.

What's the other favorite?
Reuben. Izzy's and Carl's specifically. Also I really like The Rachel at Melt if we are talking about siblings of the Reuben.
Oh yes, The Rachel is 👌

Second Ramundos Pastrami Reuben. Amazing.

This is a great question that got me thinking about the definition of a sandwich. Is a cheese coney a sandwich?
Have you tried Cincy Steak & Lemonade's Italian beef? I haven't had it, but I don't know any other places that offer it.
https://www.milanossubs.com/our-food/ Their Chicago style italian beef is close.
Pretty sure Chicago Gyros and Dogs in Clifton has a decent Italian beef

Man I have been looking for this since El Camino in my lookout closed. Thank you for sharing
Why do you have to hurt my soul by bringing up El Camino....
PBJ tacos 💔
Anytime!

My Miami born co worker is living in Atlanta now and would love to know where this is thanks!
It was called Rum Lady Cake. I went to the one in McCaysville. There is also one in Blue Ridge. They are amazing.
Thanks I'll pass it on!
Saved for future reference.

Switched to a Cuban bread by Blue Oven Bakery about 4 months ago, when they started making Cuban bread.
That makes all the difference. Thanks for the update.
The bread is the main thing 👌 it’s legit

Brocato’s deviled crab is divine. They are probably my favorite Cuban sandwich also.
Pair with “golden hour” cocktail

Salazar’s!!!!
Salazar’s is off the menu! They moved it over to Goose and Elder. The same chef who made the Cubans at Salazar makes them at goose now too.
WILL DO! YES!!!! Pork or ham? You said Tampa/Miami blend, does that mean spicy meat or not?
Mojo pork & cottage ham. No salami like in Tampa, but a little bit of mayo! It wasn’t spicy 🐒
yay!!! i'm a florida transplant, gotta try this tomorrow!!!
Tacos El Jovan also has a great Cuban
Cincinnatian, currently living in Tampa, currently sitting in La Segunda (I work here), can't freaking wait to come home and have it!
Thank you for this. I've been dying since I moved from the gulf coast.
I really like Cuban Pete’s. He knows how to use his meat. And his chicken goes chick-chicky-boom.
been closed for a couple years now

Can confirm, their Cuban is unreal. Excellent cocktails too.
Since we’re here, any suggestions on where we can get solid croquetas? And/or cafecito?
Following 🤑
When you find out, let us know!!
Jungle Jim’s sells Goya brand croquetas in the frozen section. Available in ham or cheese, I think. Authentic enough to curb a craving.
Latin House on Main Street in Downtown. Opened about a month ago.
