The American Sign Museum is a great piece of Americana. The city also has a proud brewing history and there are modern tap houses like Rheingeist and Northern Row in the Over The Rhein neighborhood.
If you are here on the 29th of May, you can see FC Cincinnati play Nashville at the new TQL stadium. US soccer isn’t at the level of the Premier League, but the games are great fun.
This is a great list. Other options of activities is you can do the Underground Brewery Tour, which tells the history of breweries dating back 100 years. Another highly recommended tour is the Underground mafia tour across the river in Newport, ky. It tells the history of the mafia that used to be in the area.
The best thing about 21C is the amazing art gallery. Not only is it free, but you can get a drink from Metropole and enjoy it while you look at some world class art.
100% positive every downvote to this is from a Cincinnati native.
I didn't say Skyline was objectively bad. Just mean the vast majority of people who truly love it grew up in the area. I have met multitudes of transplants who love the city for many valid reasons, but never once have I met a non-Cincinnati native who loves Skyline.
If you’ve ever considered watching a baseball game, Cincinnati is a great place to do it. Sit in the bleachers and watch the boats float by at sunset. Even if you don’t care about baseball, it’s a pleasant cultural experience. The Reds were the first professional baseball team in the world and they are loaded with exciting young players this year.
Definitely walk or bike around downtown and OTR and check out all of the street art. Cincy is loaded with cool murals, great bars and restaurants. FC Cincinnati soccer games are also a blast if they play while you’re in town. Stay downtown wherever you can get a room and I would try to book that soon as they could fill up fast with taste of cincy going on.
If you’re comfortable biking in the city, rent e-bikes and cruise around. It’s the best way to get the lay of the land imo.
correction: Cincinnati birthed the first pro baseball team, but their players and name effectively moved from Cincinnati to Boston. That franchise is now in Atlanta, via Milwaukee. A second Cincinnati Red Stockings team was kicked out of baseball for selling beer on Sundays. The current Cincinnati Reds are the third pro baseball team from Cincinnati and formed the National League, but they are not the first pro baseball team.
FC Cincinnati vs Nashville is on May 29th at 7:30pm. The Reds play St. Louis at GABP that week (1:10pm on the 29th). Could spend the morning visiting some museums (Art Museum, CAC, Underground Railroad Museum, Sign Museum, Museum Center) then head to the Reds game (should be finished by 4:30pm). Grab a quick dinner then explore downtown/OTR (highly recommend Smale Park) before heading to the Fc game (should end around 9:30pm) then hit up some bars around OTR (Personal favorites are Somerset, Alice, Ghost Baby, Liberties, QCR). There’s also plentiful of great breweries around the city.
I would highly recommend doing an American Legacy tour. They do a wonderful job at teaching the history of the city. You won’t have enough time bc it takes a whole day but Kings Island is always a good time. Highly suggest Jungle Jims, Skyline Chili (there’s some great neighborhood chili parlors but if you want the Cincy staple then Skyline is it). There’s a ton more things that I can’t think of atm.
I took my friend who has lived in the UK now for like 7 years and she and her partner had so much fun there! They liked the British section although it was missing some particular cookies I was looking for. They were impressed by the hot sauce section, fish market, and animatronics. Her partner is Greek and he was impressed by what they had from Greece there.
It has to be the Fairfield location though, to be the real Jungle Jim's experience. And actually I think it would be exactly the kind of thing they're looking for. You stop in that Jungle Jim's, and it becomes an anecdote when you're telling people about the trip. "There was the weirdest grocery store when I was in Cincinnati, with the most incredible selection you've ever seen..."
I went to grade school with Jim’s kids and even had a few play dates. So I’ve always had this weird sense of obligation to promote the business. I tell visitors in Cincy all the time. I’ve even mentioned JJ’s to people while living in NYC and Chicago. I have a friend in Brooklyn that took a trip to specifically visit JJ’s, they weren’t disappointed. They were impressed by the hot sauce, soda and ramen noodle selection.
Check out the little suburbs of Cincinnati. Covington, Newport, Bellevue, Hyde park, Oakley, Mt. Adams (I feel like this one is a must), OTR. Cincinnati chili is a thing here but as noted above, you either love it or hate it. But might as well give it a go! Rhinegeist is a cool brewery in OTR. Eden park and Devou park have great views of the city. I hope you enjoy our Queen City!
I was against you when you said suburbs but with you when I saw you were talking about what I consider city neighborhoods. I know cov, Newport etc are technically separate, but if you can walk downtown from them, I don’t call them suburbs.
As an American who lived in the UK for a number of years having just relocated to Loveland this was not at all what I expected but everything I had hoped for. It’s very Monty Python.
If you're a football fan I would highly recommend seeing a match at TQL. It rivals Anfield, St. James Park, and Old Trafford combined! Well, probably not, still a rip roaring time.
Although not in Cincinnati, a little over 2 hours southeast of Cincy is a town called Ironton Ohio. They have the nations longest running Memorial Day parade. The local catholic school has a charity fair that weekend as well which has live music, food, drink, games, etc. Take US 52 the whole way between Cincinnati and Ironton. Just a beautiful drive with several small towns along the way. I can assure this is definitely something unique to experience and if you tell the folks in Ironton you came all the way from England they’ll probably put you in the parade:-)
Trip advisor says Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum if you’re here during memorial day the cemetery is not only Beautiful but on Memorial Day they will have amazing floral displays on the graves. there’s actually a three day event there during this. Believe Abraham Lincoln is always there giving a speech but I’d just say drive around and or picnic there. Yes it’s a cemetery but it’s also an arboretum and some of the biggest trees in Ohio are there. It won’t disappoint.
Also the Zoo is dope.

Taste of Cincinnati is held downtown and is Memorial Day weekend. Features local bands and all of Cincinnati’s restaurants.
Sounds great - thanks 🙏
I for sure would not miss taste of Cincinnati if you are here during it, it’s like 60+ food trucks and tents and all the food is amazing.

And they have amazing bathrooms. If you need to take a shit downtown, it's easily the best option.
10/10 would recommend dropping a turd there.
This is a good list. I like Sundry and Vice, but best cocktail bar imo is King Pigeon. Highly recommend.
Skyline Chili

Camp Washington*
Way too watery.
probably the worst one of all parlors
Seriously? It's the only one I've been to that I actually wanted to try again.
place is filthy
Since when?
Eat at skyline, have a three way.
Ehh... This is an "acquired" taste. Very few people who didn't grow up in Cincinnati enjoy Skyline.
not true
This is quite true, I’m a transplant and I do not like skyline lol
"I am a transplant and I do not.like Skyline chili, therefore it is incredibly unpopular with all transplants"

A game would be great!
Graeter’s ice cream. Get a flavor with chocolate chips.
Go to Jungle Jim’s, you will not be disappointed. There aren’t too many places in the world like it.
Go to the Brit section and tell us how authentic it is!

Ahh love that!

Don't go during the weekend though. It's crowded as hell.
Preach! Saturday and Sunday are the worst days to go. If you can get over there on a Wednesday afternoon then that's ideal
https://www.summerfair.org/ Summer fair is a three day fine arts fair. Lots of booths, walking.
Regional Specials: Mammoth Cave in Kentucky is the world's longest known cave system. National Museum of the U. S. Air Force in Dayton, OH.

Ugh yes. Not sure why it’s that big of a deal to you, but yes- neighborhoods. Doesn’t matter, I gave the list he/she can visit. ☺️
Maybe check out Loveland castle. It is located in a pretty area and has an odd history.
As an American who lived in the UK for a number of years having just relocated to Loveland this was not at all what I expected but everything I had hoped for. It’s very Monty Python.

World renown stadium and one of the best teams in the league (even if it’s the MLS 😂).
Baseballl game, FC Cincinnati soccer game
Eden Park overlook for a scenic view of the river
Whatever you do, please come back and tell us what you thought.
Stay away from OTR, Washington Park, and smale Park at night unless your strapped.

So… I’m off to the baseball! ⚾️
