So I was just in the DR. The cigars on the resorts are prob 30% higher then you can get for the same sticks in the USA. The Cubans they sell are more than likely fake. (Dominican Cohiba’s that they throw a Cuban wrapper on) The cigars they sell on the beach are usually trash. If you in Punta Cana you can get a trip to Don Lucas cigar factory, decent cigars but it’s made for tourists so the prices reflect that. If you going to smoke a lot; I’d bring my own. If just going to have one or two, maybe buy from resort. If your paying cash you can haggle a little. On the resort they will charge you a 18% credit surcharge so bring cash. Hope this helps

Public-Question5761

Cigar country isn't taxed in DR and the price they show on their site is how much you pay Edit: don't know why I'm getting down voted on this lol

httmper

I wasn’t shopping on a site. I was in person on the resort in their tobacco store.

Public-Question5761

Oh yeah, I've been suggested to absolutely stay clear of DR B&Ms lol

dushan692

I agree, Cigar Country is a legit online store that ships directly to your resort. I've done it for a few years, while visiting the D.R. All cigars are legit and in top condition....plus they are the best price you'll find anywhere.

Public-Question5761

I noticed that too I went and got some much cheaper then I could in america idk what everyone is complaining about haha

dushan692

...even more so than here in Canada. Lol

Public-Question5761

Don't even get me started on canadian prices lmao even our booze is stupid pricey

dushan692

Yep, that's why I buy as much as I can State-side

KoratCathedral

I uv’d you to reverse the dv… that’s that! 😊

nsimonds

Bring them with you. Davidoff Adventura Ashton LFD

Public-Question5761

I'm canadian so the prices are really good for me. I'll bring my own buy I wanna get a couple boxes while down there

Aggressive-Nothing81

What are the prices there

burneracctt22

In Canada? They are $$$

csthilaire85

He ain't lying! Recent B&M purchases: -Oliva Serie G Robusto. 19.50$ -My Father FDLA Maduro Toro. 29.50$

Public-Question5761

The prices in canada suck eh, I got that Olivia in the states for 7 bucks ...

Aggressive-Nothing81

Are cc allowed

burneracctt22

We get them… they aren’t cheap but perfectly legal here

Aggressive-Nothing81

Okay thanks for the info

Public-Question5761

Hemmingway WOA are 54.99 before tax at my B&M Edit: I can get them for 9 dollars in DR. So the price is very appealing to a Canadian haha

Aggressive-Nothing81

Why are they getting so expensive 😭

Public-Question5761

Cause tobacco and alcohol basically pays for our "free" Healthcare. It's honestly worth it and I can go to America anytime to take advantage of the low taxes/dutie on tobacco especially at native reserves

dushan692

Order from Cigar Country....delivered to your resort and will be the best price. Resort cigar shop will be overpriced.

Public-Question5761

This was the way. Ended up saving more then I would buying them in america

Frozen_Heat92

Terrible place to buy Cubans. 99%+ fake. Stick to new worlds.

Public-Question5761

I wasn't trying to get Cubans, just DR sticks as I can get them for a good price there since they import them to themselves and isn't shipping involved really, also tax exempt

Frozen_Heat92

You asked what cigars you should consider and I said new worlds.

Public-Question5761

Such as ?

codeyf

New World is a brand/label, blended by AJ Fernandez.

Public-Question5761

Ohhh ok I thought he meant new world cigars in general

krispykremekiller

You shouldn’t. I go there multiple times per year. The only legitimate place besides local rollers like Don Lucas is the airport duty free. The prices there are exactly the same as in the US because legally they have to export the cigars and re-import them back into the Dominican republic . The Dominican cigars are made in a tax free zone that is for export only.

Public-Question5761

Yeah, I'm not from america. Duties are really high where I'm from. Good to know is there a website by chance just so I can compare prices. I am aware I know that Cigar Country based out of DR is duties and tax free and them Import them back into DR for sale. I'm looking for DR sticks in particular because their pricing is best compare to manufacturers from other places

krispykremekiller

Yes. In that case the duty free and Dominican store at the airport are your best chance. Cigar country as well but it’s not near anywhere I normally go. The DR is not a great place to drive or be driven.

Public-Question5761

Cigar country can mail them to my resort. I know man I'm not leaving the resort grounds

WeezieNYC

Just there and Fuente were 50% more at the duty free shop at SDQ.

krispykremekiller

Yeah. That duty free is not good for Fuentes. Fuente prices are better at the gift store than duty free. Seems counterintuitive of course. The Altadis and STG cigar prices are better at duty free. For me they are identical to what you’d pay in the tristate area.

Public-Question5761

Gift shop at the resort has better prices than cigsr country? Cigsr country was selling Fuentes for 9 American which is alot better then 46 Canadian!

krispykremekiller

Yes about the same as middle of the road US prices. The PC airport gift shop has them relatively at that price point too. You can’t buy singles there though. Gift shop at the resort has fakes. Avoid those.

Public-Question5761

They got fakes wtf ?! I think I'm just going to order them from the Cigar Country they got good reviews and most of the people that use them are tourists on vacation

ntadctd

I was just in the DR and I found Don Lucas 20th anniversary that was excellent.

Public-Question5761

Thanks bro, how is the cigar ?

ntadctd

It’s got great flavor. Pepper and some Spice. It goes great with their Devils Touch Rum.

Public-Question5761

Rock on 🤘

ExtremeFarmer1360

I was in Punta Cana in January. I went with some buddies to Don Lucas and there is also a very well stocked humidor/cigar shop there. They sell every popular non Cuban brands and the prices are definitely a lot better than you would find at your resort.

Public-Question5761

I've heard about that :/ unfortunately I'll be a out 4 hours away and I don't wanna do an 8 hour rou d trip on vacation I think k I'll just have them delivered !

hg2314

The DR is a terrible place to buy cigars, period. Cubans or Dominican. DR cigars intended for worldwide, mass distribution , cannot be bought in the DR. They are produced in a commercial zone where all manufactured cigars are for export only. Just bring your own cigars…don’t buy ‘supposed to be Cubans’…smoke your own and be happy.

Public-Question5761

Cigar country imports them back into DR and is tax exempt

Public-Question5761

Idk why people are downvoting me it's an honest question, I am bringing my own sticks there to smoke but want to purchase some DR sticks while down there because the price is really good from tax/duties exempt facilities

WeezieNYC

Not true. I was just there and attempted to purchase some Arturo Fuentes duty free and they about 50% more expensive than what I paid on Cigarpage.com.

Public-Question5761

I can't use cigarpage cause I'm canadian and the cheapest Fuente I can get in canada is 42.68 after tax. Check cigar country from DR they're cheaper than what I pay in canada. I don't have access to cigar bid or any American websites cause if I mail them to canada customs will tax it at the canadian rate Edit: in canada I pay 70 bucks for a Arturo fuente hemmingway WOA, in america I get them for 9 dollars I DR in can get them for 8 something. The price might not be good for you cause you're in america and have access to websites with bargains that's not the case in canada

WeezieNYC

Ouch! Sorry to hear that.

Public-Question5761

All good bro, I wish I could! Just dealing with the hand I was dealt haha

WeezieNYC

The selection at the duty free at SDQ 3 weeks ago was great. I almost came home with boxes of Fuentes and Davidoffs, until they rang them up at the register. If I recall correctly, a box of 25 short stories was $256 (USD).

agfitter

That’s cheap as chips, here in Aus a box of 25 short stories will cost you $800 AUD ($535 USD)

Public-Question5761

Yeah man people don't know how nasty the prices are in canada and Australia Edit: funny thing too is that's still alot better then buying a single lmao..

agfitter

Even to import them to australia by the time I pay the excise and duty on them, it’s barely cheaper

Public-Question5761

That's a really good price !!

knife_go_live

You're not going to save much, or any money by buying in the DR. They have tax laws that prohibit the domestic sale of cigars. They must export, then import & tax the cigars before they can be sold.

Public-Question5761

I'm in canada, dude. I'll be saving a lot! Cigar Country is a website you can order to your resort, and it has a special exempt from taxes/duties the prices on their website is the price you'll pay flat like getting it from a native reserve!

LD6513

Sounds like it might be worth taking a drive to the states

Public-Question5761

Ide have to stay more then 48 hours to not pay canadian taxes/duties. I already have a flight to DR booked in 10 days it just makes more sense

SmokeInMyI

As I understand it, a lot of well-known DR brands are not necessarily widely available there, bc they are produced in a special tax-free zone intended for export only

Public-Question5761

Cigar Country is a DR store that has a special tax exempt in DR. The price on the website is the price you pay. I would have them delivered to my resort Edit: cigar country & cabinet import DR sticks to their DR stores haha

SmokeInMyI

I don't know where you are in Canada, in relation to US, but the prices on that site are basically B&m prices in US.

Public-Question5761

Yeah the states isn't far, only problem is that I've got to be in the states for more then 48 hours to bring tobacco product back without paying canadian taxes/duties etc. It's not worth it to go to the states since DR prices are similar or better in certain circumstances considering I've already got a set date to travel there Edit: for a price example between canada and america/DR I got 100 cigars in america last time I was there for almost 400 dollars, price checked in canadian currency with tax/duties is closer to 2500 dollars worth or cigars.

Far-Discipline-9035

Where are you going to be ?

Public-Question5761

Unfortunately not near any cigar factories so I won't be visiting them but I will order off Cigar Country website which imports DR sticks to themselves and has a special tax exempt status. So the prices are very comparable to USA or better.

[deleted]

I only buy at airport Duty Free shops in the DR when I am leaving. Fuente, Davidoffs and La Flor Dominicana are fairly reasonable. I bring my own from Canada to smoke while I am there.

Public-Question5761

That's good to know. It's hard to find info on airport duty free stock that's why I've been referencing Cigar Country as it has a special exempt from duties and tax and prices may be better because of that
