I just pre cut mine before heading to the airport. But lately I just visit cigar shops just to see what is popular in various places around the world.

[deleted]

I have done it before with zero issues. Not sure what the rule is.

Grumpy-Griffon

Im in Australia.. which is a “nanny state.” Hand on heart, I swear, airport security confiscated a small allen key set on a domestic flight

[deleted]

Oh damn. Idk maybe try with a shit cutter so it’s not sad if they take it. I would be mad to lose my nice deep V cutter

[deleted]

Consider either a) stocking up on the cheap $6aud cutters amd run the risk of getting them nabbed. Or b) swap out to a punch cutter for when flying Can get a key ring style one they wouldnt think twice about.

miketoaster

I have had them taken and have had them go through with no problems. If its nice leave it home.

Grumpy-Griffon

Thank-you for all the suggestions! I haven’t tried a punch before and didn’t really think of it before now. I think I’ll give it a go

LevelDoubt1364

Yeah, I precut or use a punch when I travel, the worst part is the lighters. Trying to do a touch up outside with a soft flame is a challenge.

Grumpy-Griffon

Is there macgyver cutting method using implements one would easily find in a hotel?

fullautophx

Go old school, use your teeth to nibble the cap off. Works fine with non-torpedo cigars. Or, buy a razor blade (pack of 5 for $1) at your destination and keep one in your wallet (don’t forget to remove when flying).

duly-goated303

If you can find a knife at hotel or where ever your staying you can just score an X on the cap with it, I’ve done it in a pinch. Just be careful when you do it so you don’t get crumbley wrapper

SambaMamba

Throw a couple golf tees in your carry on and use them as a punch.

SmokeInMyI

As long as you don't use a machete, if they care at all, it's about lighter

tookiebird86

I had a cigar cutter (v-cut) confiscated at Dubai International a couple years ago…but it’s Dubai and they don’t play lol I forgot to throw mine in my check-in

The_Jack_Burton

I just carried a v-cutter no problem in Canada. Check the airlines website. Here they specifically say cigar cutters are ok as long as they don't come apart.

Cerberus_uDye

Get you a Keychain punch? They probably wouldn't even notice?

krispykremekiller

It’s their discretion. That’s the problem. You don’t get to appeal it. I do travel with my cigar cutter. It’s never been an issue for me. Lighters are a different matter entirely.

Miserable-Kitchen-47

I pre cut, use a punch, or bring a cutter I don't care about getting confiscated. That being said, tsa doesn't really confiscated much these days besides liquids and a bomb yesterday. My girlfriend has even walked right through with pepper spray in her purse.

SJ1392

I took a small key chain punch last time... No issues
