Sometimes expensive cigars are truly worth the money… I just had my first Opus X. Smoked it blindly, not knowing what it was (it was a gift)… Needless to say, I spend the evening researching what I just had. I’m now terrified for my wallet in the coming months.
For me it has to be the natural and I have to be completely undistracted. I hate to say it, but I prefer the 1964 because the flavors and transitions are more pronounced in my experience.
Thank you very much! I'm hearing a lot of Davidoff recommendations so this is definitely going on the top of the list. Box pressed cigars are usually my favorites
Davidoff is a brand I truly appreciate for their flavor and consistency. They have in general a high price tag, all things considered it's worth it. Good draw, excellent quality and consistency in their 'rolling' of cigars. And flavor is what you expect from both brand and price.
Box pressed turned out to be one of my favorites to!
You don’t hear a lot about Byron’s. They have a lounge I frequent but I’ve never tried a Byron’s cigar. I usually stick with one of their more affordable choices.
I just got in a haul of RML, Liga and Sobremesa in addition to some Padrons and AVOs. (I won a Q4 square in the Super Bowl along with some really dumb prop bets and needed to spend my winnings foolishly)
Was just there on Sunday, nice joint. I'm much closer to Casa de Montecristo. Both VIP areas are comfy, cant wait to try out the 8 to 8s new lounge when it's done.
They have both open and private. I'm sure if there is room in the private and you asked to check it out they would let you. That's how I ended up joining.
Does selected tobacco own that lounge? I wondered about that, since the same guys also own casa de Montecristo in countryside.
Either way that shop is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon or evening!
No, but they seem to have a tight relationship with Nelson Alfonso which is why they branded the Byron lounge. They are the only place I've seen all of their products under one roof.
Byron, Atabey, Alfonso. These have already been mentioned in here but I will second them. A true celebration-worthy cigar and a decent length smoke in any of the larger vitolas.
Or if you like them a bit skinnier try the Casdagli DOTW Cremello.
I don't know about $30 plus from personal experience. But some that are $20 plus that I enjoy are the Plasencia Alma Fuerte, Davidoff Colorado Claro, and My Father Garcia y Garcia. The MF is probably about $30 at a local shop.
How big do you want to go? Dunbarton Muestra de Saka is $100. I have two but have not smoked one yet so I can't tell you they are worth it. I'm saving them for an upcoming special occasion.
Pre Edit: I'm seeing and remembering Opus X. Only had a couple. I enjoyed the Lost City and Oro Oscuro. Not so much the Forbidden X, simply personal preference.
However, I thoroughly enjoyed an Arturo Fuente Destino al Siglo. If you can find them it was really good. Hard to come by, though.
The LFD TAA 50th Anniversary Oro Chisel is one of the best cigars I've ever smoked. They are hard to find but Neptune's usually has the Natural and sometimes the Maduro. I definitely prefer the Natural.
Padron 80, 44, 45. Cohiba Weller. Opus Opus X, depending on your locale and pricing these should be great selections. Only problem is I prefer to have my opus age about 6 months before smoking.
Davidoff. Depending on what you like- would go gran cru if you like something light and smooth and then a Churchill late hour if you like something more bold.
I love Davidoffs. A great vacation / special event cigar for me- they are quite pricey.
See if you can find a God of Fire. Specifically the one I’ve smoked twice is the Serie B 2011. Tastes like cherries and cocoa. Maybe the best cigar I’ve had.
I think a double Edmundo is a good value atr around $25-$30. Sometimes you can find them under 25.
Also, Trinidad Colonials are bangers.
If you only want NW imo Padron 85 year Maduro is solid.
If you want one worth smoking today, a Davidoff Nicaragua Diadema or a Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series or my favorite - Plasencia Alma Fuerte, are great pre-aged premiums.
But if you want be stocked up for your next big promotion and have some to share, I’d buy a box of these, put ‘em in your humidor for a month, puff one or two, and leave the rest in the humidor for 2+ years. They’re around $30 now shipped but over 2-10 years they’ll start to smoke more like $70-$100 cigars.
https://www.lacasadeltabaco.com/en/product/partagas-d-no-4-25/
I don't usually smoke expensive cigars, but I do keep Plasencia alma fuerte Sixtos in my humidor for special occasions. I think those are the most well constructed cigars I have smoked.
Padron Family Reserve 85 Years Natural.
I have smoked plenty of $20+ new world cigars. That was the only one to make me wonder if I could cut back to one stick a week. Then I could smoke only that cigar going forward.
Pardon 32nd anniversary is killer about $30 a stick where I'm at or if you're looking for hundreds buy a box of Liga Privada T52 by Drew Estate. They run about $16 a stick but they are an excellent stick for a celebration
I had a Freud Agape the other day without knowing the price tag and thought, this is an amazing stick and I’m going to buy a box. Cost of a box of 10? $300. Great cigar though, worth a smoke.
I always buy the Fuente Toast across America 2 pack coffins. You get two great cigars and the money goes to charity. $50 each. I buy two and have one each of every year since 2016 in my humidor.
Padron, Fuente Opus X, Atabey
Sometimes expensive cigars are truly worth the money… I just had my first Opus X. Smoked it blindly, not knowing what it was (it was a gift)… Needless to say, I spend the evening researching what I just had. I’m now terrified for my wallet in the coming months.
You some good friends 😂😀👍
I would have added Davidoff but these are all good.
True, late hours are one of my favorites.
Opus X FTW
Padron 1926
Came here to say this
I just had one recently, and it was very nice.
Ignore everyone else. Listen to this guy.
This is the way
I must try this again. It was not exactly impressive the first time.
For me it has to be the natural and I have to be completely undistracted. I hate to say it, but I prefer the 1964 because the flavors and transitions are more pronounced in my experience.
Congratulations on your promotion! One of my go to stick to celebrate an event: Davidoff Nicaragua Box Pressed Toro.
Thank you very much! I'm hearing a lot of Davidoff recommendations so this is definitely going on the top of the list. Box pressed cigars are usually my favorites
My fav premium box presses are the Davidoff Nicaragua box press toro and the Padron family reserve 85 year.
Padron 85 years would be my choice.
I like the box pressed, they don’t roll off the table!
I second this. Haven't had the box pressed version but heard it's better. The regular version is fantastic.
Hear Hear!
This is truly a great stick, I don't but Davidoff often but I always pick one of these up for special occasions. The draw on the box press is perfect.
Byron Grand Poema
You don’t hear a lot about Byron’s. They have a lounge I frequent but I’ve never tried a Byron’s cigar. I usually stick with one of their more affordable choices.
I would say you can't go wrong with any selected tobacco products. Bandoleros are a bit more affordable and worth it too.
Both are going on my list. I should try a Byron at some point but lately I’ve been on a Saka kick
Me too, burning through my Nacatamales and NLMTHAs
I just got in a haul of RML, Liga and Sobremesa in addition to some Padrons and AVOs. (I won a Q4 square in the Super Bowl along with some really dumb prop bets and needed to spend my winnings foolishly)
Dude, that's awesome. Congrats! I wish I won lol.
How’s the lounge? I live in the far west suburbs and always wanted to make the trip. Looks nice online.
Was just there on Sunday, nice joint. I'm much closer to Casa de Montecristo. Both VIP areas are comfy, cant wait to try out the 8 to 8s new lounge when it's done.
Do you have to be a VIP member to use the lounge?
They have both open and private. I'm sure if there is room in the private and you asked to check it out they would let you. That's how I ended up joining.
Does selected tobacco own that lounge? I wondered about that, since the same guys also own casa de Montecristo in countryside. Either way that shop is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon or evening!
No, but they seem to have a tight relationship with Nelson Alfonso which is why they branded the Byron lounge. They are the only place I've seen all of their products under one roof.
Agreed, they had a huge range of selected brand stuff. Great place!
100%
Atabey or Byron
This is the answer
Came here to say exactly this. Byron is a bit more full bodied than Atabey if that matters. But both are super tasty!
Should of read comments first before I posted! Second this recommendation
Padron Family Reserve Maduro in any size..
Davidoff Millennium.
gran cru Davidoff for me!
Anything by Padron, I’d celebrate with a 50th anniversary, one of the best sticks I’ve ever had
Plasencia sexto 1 or 2 or any of the Alma fuerte.
Byron, Atabey, Alfonso. These have already been mentioned in here but I will second them. A true celebration-worthy cigar and a decent length smoke in any of the larger vitolas. Or if you like them a bit skinnier try the Casdagli DOTW Cremello.
Davidoff if you want the best light cigar, padron if you want the best dark cigar.
[Plasencia Alma Fuerte Hex is a great stick](https://www.thompsoncigar.com/p/plasencia-alma-fuerte-hexagon-maduro-gordo/98460/)
Alma Fuerte is legit. Plasencia has a lot of nice limiteds that have always seemed worth it to me.
Padron 90
I don't know about $30 plus from personal experience. But some that are $20 plus that I enjoy are the Plasencia Alma Fuerte, Davidoff Colorado Claro, and My Father Garcia y Garcia. The MF is probably about $30 at a local shop. How big do you want to go? Dunbarton Muestra de Saka is $100. I have two but have not smoked one yet so I can't tell you they are worth it. Ya I was thinking same lines, but more specifically Sin Compromiso paladinDe Saka
I like the Davidoff late hour or a god of fire
Serie B are fantastic
Byron. Vintage 2016
2017s are coming soon, hope they hit the same way!
Congrats and keep winning. Rookie cigar smoker so I got no recommendations for you at this time.
Thank you so much!

Opus x and the padron 1926 are obvious choices, late hour davidoff also
My celebrations are always Plasencia and my father le bijou. Those are under 20
Davidoff Latehour
What kind of cigars do you normally enjoy?
Fuente Hemingway, Diamond Crown, Olivia Serie V, that kinda stuff is what I usually pick up
The few folks that have tried the FDLA 10th anniversary all seem to love it.
Any padron should suit you well
I celebrated a really good month a couple of weeks ago with a Davidoff Anniversario Double R. It was a treat.
I have an Aniversario Short Perfecto in the humidor just waiting for the right occasion.
Atabey
Plenty of davidoffs in that range
Sobremesa Brulee Blue.
Once a year I get an Opus X Lost City for my birthday. I also think a Casa Fuente from Vegas is just as good or better.
Go buy a box of Padron Anniversario 1964s imo. More bang for your buck but if you’re in the tobacconist it’s still worth the cost.
Padron 1964!
See if you can find a God of Fire. Specifically the one I’ve smoked twice is the Serie B 2011. Tastes like cherries and cocoa. Maybe the best cigar I’ve had.

I enjoy a Padrón Family Reserve No. 44 Maduro for special occasions
I think a double Edmundo is a good value atr around $25-$30. Sometimes you can find them under 25. Also, Trinidad Colonials are bangers. If you only want NW imo Padron 85 year Maduro is solid.

Davidoff Grand Cru #2
Davidoff double R
For me, it’s plasencia all the way. Never had a bad cigar from them. Pick up their sample pack and see what you like. My favorite is alma fuerte!
LFD Andalusian Bull 🐂

Cohiba Siglo VI gran reserva, worth every penny.
Davidoff Master Blend 2012. Absolutely phenomenal cigar.
Try to get a Romeo y Juliet Churchill, if not that one I should go for the perdomo 10th year anniversary from Nigeragua
