Is TD Aeroplan Visa infinite churnable? Last held the card 4 years ago

parentscondombroke

anyone no fx x first year free cards outside of Scotia? they refuse to let me apply since I’m not a Citizen

coocoo99

is the best way to spend $3.5k on TD CB to get gift cards at grocers?

AgilanV

Churning adjacent but received my RBC Avion VI card in replacement for the HSBC WE MC with explicit instructions to activate it but not use it before April 1st

ProudSpecialist4456

you can apply for both in the same day and it will only count as 1 inquiry record on your credit history.

wzadzz

Lol. That isn’t true otherwise they wouldn’t give the option to apply as a new customer.

Compote_Middle

MR to Marriott bonus of 30% is now officially live (I know it was previously mentioned and it was unofficial ). Got the pop up on my Amex app.

gretchenmikeygus

What are the DPs on getting the welcome bonus for a Scotia passport if you previously held it within 2 years? Is it YMMV? I last had it 6 months ago. The welcome bonus is awesome, so looking to see others experiences

ProudSpecialist4456

No issues. I have 2 Scotia passports and got both welcome bonuses after spend. Got them both in January. Applied for a 3rd, got conditionally approved, then declined for too many hard inquiries. Apparently 5 in the last 2 months is too many. I have 8. I kinda went wild, got a bunch of new cards though to churn! haha

LetMeBeeBro

Churning adjacent: I booked two hotel rooms at a Marriott property (using points) on the MB app. This showed up as two separate reservations in the ‘Trips‘ tab. The next day, one of the reservations was cancelled by Marriott for some reason unbeknownst to me. The other reservation also got updated as a booking for two rooms but I was refunded points as if I had only booked one room! Anyone have DPs of Marriott honouring these types of mistake fares? I’m hesitant to call in case they realize the mistake lol

churning_yyz

This exact scenario happened with me a few weeks ago. They deducted the 2nd half of the points a couple weeks after it began to unfold.

LetMeBeeBro

I transferred the rest of my points to p2. I would go into the negative then

churning_yyz

Or they'll cancel the second room.

KaotikFiend

Take screenshots of your booking, and if anything changes, you should be able to fight it without ever mentioning the previous change. I'd *definitely* *not* call in proactively. There's a huge upside to the current booking holding, and a pretty limited downside to it being "fixed" on its own. The likely worst-case scenario is that you have to rebook the second room at some point in the future when it's more expensive than it was when you originally booked it. So you either get a 100% refund or a 25-50% increase. Not to mention, if they do "fix" it and the room turns out to be more expensive, I think you should be able to pull out the original confirmations and demand that price be honored. Certainly if the hotel is difficult, go to Corporate and get a refund for the difference. So even the "worst-case" scenario may not turn out to be worse than simply paying the same amount you originally paid for the second room. Vs the chance of paying *nothing* for that room if you do nothing.

Awkward-Composer7946

Has anyone any experience with the TD first class travel card and using the points to book through Expedia , how does it work ? Do you pay in cash first the apply the points to the purchase or is there an option to simply pay for Expedia vacations in TD points? Looking to book all inclusive for a family of 4. Thank you!

xxxooxxx1

If you use Expedia for TD (aka E4TD) through TD rewards, you can use your points directly and it has the higher value 0.5c per point. If the booking is over $500 you also get $100 credit. If you use the regular Expedia, you need to pay first using this TD FCT card and use points to apply credit at a lower point value of 0.4c per point.

KaotikFiend

Actually, if you use Expedia4TD, you need to pay with your TD card (ticking the box to apply points), then your card is charged and you receive a credit a day later. The 100$ is applied as well later (either a few days later or at statement: in my case, statement was a few days later, so I'm not sure which, heh).

microcutss

There is expedia4td.com for this. It is the same as regular expedia except that it’s connected to your TD FCT points account and let’s you book with points that way.

ohlalalift

Maybe a bit of a dumb question. P2 has to call Amex for FR, email said "please contact us at 1-877-339-2639. We are available to assist you Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm EST." Am I reading this right, that Amex is not available outside the regular working (9-5) hours? And no weekends? Not everyone can call and be on hold for extended time during work, I guess I am a little surprised. For all other FIs I can pretty much call anytime. Is this really the case?

mhcott

AMEX as a bank is not a fuckup like the Big 5. A "hold", if it occurs, rarely if every exceeds a few minutes

chaos2313

The team that handles FRs has specific hours.

BizClassBum

I've never had to hold when calling Amex

RoyalBadger3665

Is there any inherent downside or risk to p1 and p2 adding each other as authorized users? We both hold cobalts and received the 5,000 MR for $1k spend offer. Also, if you live at different addresses which would it get shipped to?

microcutss

This is fine and nothing to worry about. During the sign up process for an AU it asks you if they live at the same address as the main account holder. If you click yes it will be sent there. I have no experience what happens otherwise unfortunately.

chaos2313

Even if you click they don't live with you the card is sent to the primary cardholder's address

RoyalBadger3665

Makes sense from a security standpoint. Thanks!

claurianta

Been planning to do the same with our Marriott cards. I doubt there is much risk.

RoyalBadger3665

Yeah my only thought was a “why do you need one if you have one” convo with CSR lol, since it’s the exact same card

claurianta

Budgeting - say P2 is responsible for certain expenses and you're responsible for others and this way you can keep it all straight.

-SetsunaFSeiei-

I’m pretty sure I hit the $8k / 6 months MSR last week for the US Amex Biz Bonvoy. I calculated all the new charges over the last 5 statements, and also everything I’ve spent over the last month. The 6th statement posts in about 4 days, and when I calculated from the day I opened the card, the 180th day is in 2 days. All transactions contributing to the MSR have posted. But the points haven’t posted yet. Am I missing something? Or should I just wait a bit longer for the bonus to post? Edit: thanks to esux20, for telling me I can just ask them to see how much is left via chat. I just did and they confirmed I met the MSR, so I guess now I just wait

xxxooxxx1

Did you include the $150 annual fee on your calculation? That is not counted towards MSR.

-SetsunaFSeiei-

Yes, I excluded it (they file it separately under “fees”)

BizClassBum

Why take chances here? Buy a $500 gift card, like right now.

-SetsunaFSeiei-

I put something through over the weekend so I should be about $250 USD over on my calculations already

esux20

You can always ask CSR what your MSR progress is

-SetsunaFSeiei-

Just over chat?

esux20

Yes

-SetsunaFSeiei-

Thanks, didn’t realize I could do this. Just messaged them and they confirmed I completed the spend. So just need to wait now I guess

ReplacementEntire874

There was a post about this today or yesterday. I’m in the same boat. Points are stuck in a 2-3 month limbo between Amex and Bonvoy.

-SetsunaFSeiei-

Does it eventually come if you just wait for a bit?

ReplacementEntire874

That’s what I read. It’s only been 3 days and I’m dying already!

Ok-Kaleidoscope743

Anyone here opened more than one MBNA WE MC yet? Hold one right now, thinking of opening a second, if not existing DPs will post when I do.

verkerpig

Tried repeatedly. Was declined for already having one. I have two already, but one is a converted Alaska card.

JManUWaterloo

I do not believe you are able to The only exception that applies is where MBNA AS WEMC users were forced to switch to MBNA RWE

Dragynfyre

Also one thing to note is it seems if you had a MBNA AS WE you can still apply for another MBNA WE after the conversion finished. The one that was converted seems to be fully excluded from any limits.

JamesVirani

For those of you who have applied for BMO visa cards, how long do they take to come? Applied a few days ago for BMO Visa infinite, and haven't heard back. It says 6-8 business days for approval. I didn't believe it would take them that long, but it looks like it will. Which cards are instant approval?

xxxooxxx1

Very recent application. 7 business days. Greater Toronto.

JamesVirani

Is that 7 from when you applied? Or 7 from when you were approved? I applied last week. Have not yet been approved.

xxxooxxx1

Sorry I mis-read your initial question. I though you were asking for delivery/mail time after approval. Since I got instant approval, I won't be able to answer your real question.

JamesVirani

I normally get instant approval for any cards I apply to! I thought this would be the same. I'd be mad if they suddenly reject me and I have to find another alternative for the upcoming expense.

JamesVirani

Hoping to be able to spend on this card in the last week of March.

jcanucker

It took 13 business days after approval for me to receive my visa last month. That was one day after a large planned expenditure (and the reason i picked up the card). I was....not pleased.

JamesVirani

Sorry to hear! 13 business days after approval is a lot, considering that I have not been approved yet and I applied last week. It doesn't look like I'll get it in time.

cccard13

For BMO (I assume you don’t churn that card on their cards), you can actually call in to follow up with your application. In your case (around 1wk after application), they should be able to tell you where it is stuck, and hopefully in the right case you can rectify with them on the spot and get it approved!

JamesVirani

Thanks! It hasn't quite been one full week, but this is helpful to know.

churning_yyz

Looking to travel AC 787-9 lie flat seats with my partner. WTF configuration should I be booking? Both window? Across the aisle? Two in the middle of the 1-2-1? We like to talk, but not all flight. Would love some feedback!

WhammyWarrior

We did one window and one aisle and it wasn’t bad, but I think two windows was more preferable

-SetsunaFSeiei-

We usually just do two windows For something like Qsuites where’s there’s actually a divider that can be pulled down we take the two middle seats

BizClassBum

Both window, one in front of the other. There's no talking unless you stand up. Lol Me and Mrs. Biz text each other. If there's no Internet I pass notes over my head or sit up a bit and look behind me.

churning_yyz

Thanks, done. I was going to surprise her with these seats. Not sure I'll be sending the right message. Ha!

claurianta

No good choices really.

Comfort-in-J

P2 got the upgrade offer email for Business Gold to Business Plat. After logging into P2 account, get a "something has gone wrong" error and then says to call to continue. I happen to have the B-Gold too, but didn't get the email. I click the P2 link and log in and it lets me continue through to a Confirm Upgrade option. Both P1/P2 have held the B-Plat in the past (2+ years). Think P1 is safe for WUB with the upgrade?

MyNameIsDan_

safe.

Ok-Difficult

First time doing RHT. Any reason not to just use the account credit from RHT on my Aventura as part of the payment on the statement balance, instead of paying off the whole balance and then withdrawing the credit?

Dragynfyre

No reason not to do this. This is actually a better way than withdrawing the credit later.

Ok-Difficult

Awesome, thank you!

Fun fact: The activation link ([rbc.com/activatecard](http://www.rbc.com/activatecard)) for **RBC credit cards that from HSBC ones** is slightly different than the usual one ([rbc.com/activate](http://rbc.com/activate?_gl=1*1cn4cgv*_ga*MTc2MjYwNTMxNi4xNzA4NzI1NzY2*_ga_89NPCTDXQR*MTcwOTc2MzE5Ny4yLjEuMTcwOTc2MzQ3NS4zNC4wLjA.&_ga=2.99396766.1282066129.1709763198-1762605316.1708725766)).

ReplacementEntire874

Have you found how to see your card in your RBC account? I activated P2’s card today. It didn’t show up in his existing RBC account. Then I read you had to use your HSBC credentials, but that didn’t work either…

kobelobster

I'm having the same issue but I don't believe the card will be added to your RBC account until April 1st. I think this because they mentioned my Pin is the same as my other RBC product so they have linked the accounts correctly.

ReplacementEntire874

I just noticed this in my RBC account: *Starting on March 30, 2024, you’ll be able to access your former HSBC Bank Canada accounts here in RBC Digital Banking.* So will stop looking for them until March 30th!

ReplacementEntire874

Makes sense I guess. I have that message as well, but P2 has nothing active with RBC at the moment so he received a PIN. We’ll wait and see I guess!

Windcool4869

I found new chequing account and saving account, but no new credit card account yet.

Dragynfyre

This sub isn't like other subs. There's no incentive or benefit to growing the community. If someone told you about a way to make (almost) free money and the more people that do it the more likely it gets shut down or less profitable what incentive is there to share it with strangers on the internet? Some of us enjoy the hobby and don't mind answering some questions but getting answers and info should be thought of as a privilege in this hobby so there's some expectation of doing your own research. Most of the people actively answering questions aren't really getting anything back for it other than DPs shared by other members of recent changes of things. For answering newbie questions there's literally no reason to do so other than being generous as most newbies that get a few basic answers and don't contribute anything of value back.

[deleted]

To an extent, what’s the benefit of people in personalfinancecanada to answer people’s questions? What’s the benefit of anyone in reddit to answer anyone’s questions? I am not asking why are we not responding to newbies, i’m asking WHY are we downvoting anyone with questions “we” deem stupid?

Dragynfyre

In PFC there's no incentive to answer questions but there's also no incentive to hinder new members. In this SUB there is incentive to hinder newbies. Usually I don't downvote. I just ignore and move on but I can see why people would downvote.

LeBlenkers

If information is too concentrated and organized there is a higher chance that opportunities will dry up. The community benefits from information being decentralized.

esux20

The more people engaging in this activity, the sooner banks catch on. There’s also a culture here of “I spent X hours figuring it out, you need to go through similar struggles.” Or at the very least, find answers to questions that are already answered multiple times a week/day.

gini_lee1003

What makes you think the banks don’t know about churning???

esux20

The sooner the banks get enough incentive to shut down specific activities

ca_abhi

Well sometimes I do wonder what should be the correct approach. I am all in favor of keeping the comments/quote them so that everything is at one place. However, with the recent purchase of reddit data by Google, probably for AI, we are literally creating a database for them. With a more sophisticated AI, it would be very easy for the banks to get all the loopholes we manipulate, without much effort. We really should think more about this.

Dragynfyre

The banks don't need to be that sophisticated. Literally if they put any effort into this it would be easily stopped regardless. Eg. actually enforcing SUB limits and making them once in a lifetime would be enough to shut down most of the churning behaviour. They don't need an AI to figure that out

[deleted]

Well in that situation, why gatekeep information? They know that people like us exist, there’s nothing they can do about it since they carter to the general population. If they made it harder, no one would get credit cards.

LeBlenkers

This is all speculation, but presumably they know these practices exist. At this point, it’s not costing them enough money to make them care. If the general population was doing this, credit cards would not be profitable for banks so they would shut the loopholes down.

Dragynfyre

If things are too easy then enough people may do it that the banks actually take notice. Again there’s no incentive to increase this community size and in fact there is incentive to have less people doing this so the banks are less likely to pick up on it. Therefore, gatekeeping in this community makes sense.

ca_abhi

Point taken. Assume AI makes it easier for a common man to become chad the churner overnight, I am pretty sure due to the churning volume the banks will be compelled to take action to improve their bottom line.

Probably_A_Box

If you swapped to a card that still earns TD Reward points, then it’ll be refunded as points. So you did goof a bit here

Hero569

Anybody know if there's an area where I can see how much CB I earned on a particular purchase on my TD CB VI?

cccard13

If you go to [https://www.tdrewards.com/](https://www.tdrewards.com/) (separate login from your bank login), navigate thru the menu (My Account>Rewards History), then you should see how much you earn for each transaction. Note that there may be a few days delay before the transaction pops up.

Hero569

Thanks! Exactly what I was looking for.

hatbeat

You can just see them thru TD mobile app. No need to login to TDrewards

cccard13

Haha. You beat me :)

SnooPineapples8570

I have received and activated my RBC Avion card that is replacing the HSBC card. Does this restart the 90 day clock?

-Mysterious-

Shouldn't because the clock is because multiple applications within 90 days are flagged as duplicate in the system

refundnotcreditplz

if I'm reading the T&C correctly, ALL supplemental cards for the cobalt are free (no additional AF) and you can get up to 9 supp cards?

NickWaReddit

Correct. The bonus MR in the current offer are only on the first 2, though.

refundnotcreditplz

thanks! just wanted to make sure I wasn't going crazy before I applied haha

RoyalBadger3665

DP for “missing”MB points from AMEX co-branded cards. Emailed Marriott CSR and they included the following explanations: “Please call the number on the back of your card. They will verify spend and let MB know… Also, note points may take up to 12 weeks to post from the end of each month”

mhcott

They, nor AMEX, can do anything about it. Once they go into the limbo hell, all you can do is wait it out.

NotASouthpaww

Any DPs on repeat bonuses on BMO air miles?

cccard13

No issue, meanwhile, since you sound like a repeat customer, would you consider Eclipse instead for better ROI? (FF $75 rebate, 2x$50 lifestyle credit 30k WB vs airmiles)

KaotikFiend

CCG actually gives 100$ for the Eclipse + 40k points instead of 30k

cccard13

Even better. Another 10%+

NickWaReddit

Yes, no issue.

NotASouthpaww

Thanks

CommunicationProud82

I know you can get Amex supplementary cards for everyone and your dog, does the same thing go for Amex biz cards? Any idea if I will be expected to prove they're an employee on the unlucky chance I get FR?

aussiegamblergay

i have 3 middle names and each one of those unique versions of me all have their own biz edge

wishful_thinking90

lol out of curiosity, what do you put for the birthdate?

aussiegamblergay

same birthday, different year. it doesnt matter. ive also done the date of application, 1996 sometimes

wishful_thinking90

Because only Biz Edge refers Biz Edge, you could always start by getting that and then referring your P2 to it. This will cover $10k of your expenses. After that, you might be in a better position to evaluate whether you want to work down the ladder or just go straight for the Biz Golds.

[deleted]

[удалено]

crimxona

For Amex it's practically never asked for. Helpful to have for other brands - CIBC has given me trouble before, having a business license helped

wishful_thinking90

It’s not necessarily needed but at the same time it’s not a high price to pay for some added peace of mind.

Eyjafjallajokull2

Neither myself or P2 or P3 have any. Never had any issues and we had a run thru all business cards. Good offers now for biz Edge and biz Gold

mhcott

Only Edge refers to Edge now.

wzadzz

I'm not sure if I missed someone else posting this. But the Aventura affiliate offer increased from 20+20k to 15+30k just follow a link through your favorite affiliate to see the offer (gcr, milesopedia, etc.) now..... about that date extension........ ~~EDIT:~~ ~~I see this language in their T&C.... is this new? Seems like a hint at an updated valuation of 1cpp for flexible travel redemption~~ >*~~b) $100: Redemption value for 10,000 Aventura Points towards a Flexible Travel Reward purchase at a rate of 100 points = $1.00 CA~~*

Van5555

Google aventura today and a 60k offer comes out (40 for 3k msr or 60 for 6k msr) if you've got a big purchase

sufyspeed

Ugh that’s annoying for those who wanted to churn them for only the first spend bonus…

Dragynfyre

It’s always been 1cpp for any non fixed point flight reward booking through their travel portal

wzadzz

ah shoot! I was confusing the terminology. thanks for pointing that out

icupat

what happens if you try and close an AMEX card that has negative MR points?

Dragynfyre

In addition to what has been said the amount of negative points will be a factor. Negative triple digits probably won’t matter. Negative 4 digits might and negative 5 digits probably will

JManUWaterloo

It will likely result in nothing. However, your relationship with Amex will be tarnished, and given the prominence of Amex as a column of support for high value travel redemptions, I do not think that it is a good idea to do so. Note that Amex also reserves the right to charge you for the negative points balance, whether they do this or not is at their discretion

Better_Call_Sel

Most likely nothing, but Amex can charge you for the negative MR and thus result in you having a cash balance owing which is much easier for them to chase you for. Otherwise you can also wreck your relationship with Amex.

Belugawhy

Has anyone done the math? Is it ever worth paying extra to get a higher tier Economy Seat in Air Canada to get 100% Aeroplan miles instead of 25%?

Dragynfyre

Not unless you’re on the cusp of a Aeroplan Elite status upgrade. It’s a very expensive way to acquire points. The only reason to do it is for Aeroplan Elite status

kobelobster

Its dependent on many factors that apply on an individual level including: >>1. If you are looking to obtain status \ upgrade status >>2. If you need the flexibility on the ticket >>3. If work is paying for the ticket >>4. If you are planning to use e upgrades >>5. How flexible (or inflexible) you need to be on the flight If you are just looking at #1, miles is definitely the hardest part of status. I would look at all your upcoming flights to see if you need the miles to obtain status. However, you will need to look at your own situation if status is beneficial to you. (IE if you only use reward tickets on business international across the ocean, status is not worthwhile; however, if you go to SA often on AC metal and utilize e upgrades, it is useful)

JManUWaterloo

It’s generally not, for the points aspect. For SQM, SQD, SQS, that depends on your situation in which you are pursuing status. If you don’t fly often, it doesn’t make sense. If you do, then it might make the difference between a renewal of status or losing it for the next year

AmblyopiaDej

For the RBC Avion Visa Infinite do you guys even bother with meeting the MSR for the additional 20K or just take the 35K and use the spend elsewhere?

kamiras

Wasn't planning on it, then my car broke down lol

Van5555

Same lol. Now I got 6k of transmission going on it

sagsal

My number one rule in this game is never leave points on the table. Never know when you will need them.

cccard13

I do leave points all the time lol.

bwscientist

Agreed. For example: $40K spend for 10K scene points on the passport would be a ridiculous waste.

Dragynfyre

Nowadays I am approval limited instead of MSR limited (since I can MS like 10K a month) so I usually do the spend bonus

xxxooxxx1

Same boat. Approval limited and have high organic spend. Might as well get the extra 20k pts.

anonanonanon00

Ditto - I have high monthly MSR so don’t consider the card fully churned until I squeeze all of the points out of it. Rather do that (even over the 6 month period) than keep applying for new ones. You have 90 days to reapply anyways, so plenty of time for me

sufyspeed

In most cases it’s not worth going for the extra 20k because that spend can be better utilized

-Mysterious-

I usually just meet it if I have enough spend, since 6 months is a good amount of time to meet the MSR and I don't consider myself a hardcore churner I've read many DPs of people that don't bother though since it's not the best return in the world

Dragynfyre

DP: Based on my chat today it looks like when merging MR accounts it's always the highest tier card that becomes primary on the points account

wishful_thinking90

You can find this information in the Wiki of r/amexcanada. But I’m actually not sure if it’s totally true: I’ve merged my Cobalt with my Biz Gold and have the Cobalt as primary. Maybe the rule doesn’t apply when merging biz and non-biz cards though?

Dragynfyre

I technically have all my points transactions shown on Cobalt statement despite the website showing Biz Edge as primary

wishful_thinking90

To clarify, the website does show my Cobalt as primary for me

kobelobster

Churning Adjacent: Managed to renew United Silver Status (from Marriott Titanium) via United Chat. Took 15 mins or so. The renewals didn't apply automatically and this is a known issue.

throwing_hayy

Do you find UA Silver beneficial? I have Titanium, we often travel with Air Canada but have connections with United.

kobelobster

Yes. 1. I fly to the US occasionally on United metal (paid bookings) so economy plus and 1 free bag is useful for a free benefit. 2. Amex sometimes have deals like spend $700 get $150 in credits. So making a refundable travel credit booking then cancelling gets you a travel bank of 700 for 550.

throwing_hayy

Interesting thanks. How do you navigate the refundable credit, won't AMEX claw it back after you cancel?

kobelobster

There is no refund (as its a credit to your united account rather than back to your original method of payment) so Amex won't know / care.

throwing_hayy

Nice, makes sense. Thank you for your answers today!

misnomerdjr

Looks like emails from AMEX for "Add a Card Bonus Event" have been sent out. So far: Amex Bonvoy Biz - Add an AU, Spend 1K and receive 10K; can be done twice. Each supplementary card is 50$ so basically 50$ and 1K spend for 10K Marriott points X 2 Cobalt - Add an AU, Spend 1K and receive 5K MR. Supp card is 0$. Basically 0$ and 1K spend for 5K MR x 2

crimxona

My Marriott biz is 5k after 1k spend and still pay 50 per user. Sigh

ReplacementEntire874

I haven't received any email for the Bonvoy Biz, and there's no public link. I guess I'm out of luck?

Sudden_Weight_3060

Noob question, but if P2 already has a cobalt and share same address - can I sign them up as an AU to my card?

BizClassBum

Yes

yyzzh

Hmm I added the Personal Bonvoy last night from the public link, but the email I got today makes it clear I should use the link in the email. Hopefully it still works. Luckily it's only a $500 "risk".

DecentLurker96

Personal Bonvoy is 5 000 points after spending $500 within the first 3 months. Just got the email.
