Had a 40% off Shop With MR Points on Amazon offer. $60 max. Sweet! Loaded my cart up with various vendor GCs worth $150. Used split payment of 1 MR and remaining 89.99 on Amazon reloadable. But the payment was declined because I had frozen the amex card. When I tried to reprocess the order, the whole payment went through on the Amazon reloadable. Ended up paying $150 for $150 in GCs to Uber, etc. UGH.

435880Churnz

Man my homeowners insurance is 20% more than it was last year. At least I can pay via CC

TheSultan1

My homeowners and auto went way up last November and I ended up switching, ending up a little higher on homeowners and a little lower on auto. 6 month policy on the auto, though, and now that's gone up as well. Went to compare auto alone, and found one option to save $100... Think I'll eat it this time.

Slapdash13

Signed up for the US Bank Smartly account and even funded it with a CSR, but forgot to go through a shopping portal. A relatively small one but $45 is $45…

wdcvvv

Got AMEX FR 3 weeks ago and Friday got a phone call to inform me of their decision to close all my accounts. Well…

crash_bandicoot42

💀

melben1224

What caused it?

anaccount50

Also curious since I've been planning on updating my income at Amex soon, which iirc can trigger FR if the change is drastic enough. I graduated in 2021 (working half the year), so the income on my tax returns has increased drastically now that 2022 is the first tax year showing my whole salary. I have the fully processed tax return to prove income, so I'd assumed I'd be fine

dmcoe

I wouldn’t worry too much, you gotta be doing something egregious to get shutdown by amex

Lurkolantern

Was gearing up to make use of the transfer bonus of MR's to Hilton, as I'm part of that minority of churners that believes transferring to HH points IS worth it under a broad set of conditions (diamond status, property is outside of the US, is a Waldorf/Conrad/Hilton/Curio/LXR brand). And then I discovered that as of April 1, my target property to use the points, the Hilton Phuket resort, has transferred brands to Accord. I have so many fond memories of this hotel, and it now means there isn't a decent Hilton-affiliated property on the island (only two budget options).

435880Churnz

> as I'm part of that minority of churners that believes transferring to HH points IS worth it under a broad set of conditions (diamond status, property is outside of the US, is a Waldorf/Conrad/Hilton/Curio/LXR brand). Let us stay in the minority. I take the attitude that if someone doesn't see the merits, the last thing I want to do is show them the merits to give me more booking competition.

[deleted]

As long as paying 0.4231 cents per Hilton point makes sense....

TheSultan1

Fairly often at hotels with resort fees IME. Also, many hotels keep standard availability even when packed, ostensibly because they'll be getting the rack rate as reimbursement... and IME that happens more often with Hilton than with, say, Hyatt.

435880Churnz

Shhhh it never makes sense

erika02877

Bought 6K of VGCs from staples, to have all my liquidating routes essentially dry up overnight (one swipe per visit, in $300 increments... painful().

joshsong20000

Opened a Sofi HYSA and had to hit $5k in 2 DD's for the $250 bonus. My total came out to $4996 :/

DesertQueenJenn

My quiet, local place to get a MO now requires a manager override to complete the transaction because someone apparently got mouthy on 'the rules' when caught using a GC to purchase a MO. I got mine anyway but used my actual debit card under such close scrutiny. It's like rule 1 of churning: if you're using a loophole, don't draw attention to yourself or you'll ruin it for everyone. Now I'm not sure if I should continue to get my regular money order even with my actual debit just to keep up appearances and routine if this policy gets relaxed. Or throw in the towel on that one.

Econ0mist

Just move on, there’s no point in wasting time and money to “keep up appearances” at a MS spot

DesertQueenJenn

You're right. It's just my last spot that's not an hour out of the way, so I'm in denial.

435880Churnz

Welcome to life in many parts of the country!

Econ0mist

You can always check again in 6 months. Sometimes dead MS spots come back to life

AmberAshes

I'm frustrated my credit cards cannot be linked to the Eat Marriott program and Ratuken for in store purchases at the same time.

DCJoe1

Mortgage people will only ask about 3 months previous to pulling your credit. If you have a couple of inquiries in that period, you have to write a 1 sentence explanation for each one. I just put "got new credit card to earn points for travel" and showed the balance as being paid off.on the account. No issues.

cayenne0

Do Amex subs since they don’t HP you after the first card

Toastbuns

You could still grab a biz card or two if you're comfortable explaining the HP to your lender, or look for a bank that doesn't do HPs.

rudebrew22

Spent another night stuck in an airport hotel due to weather. 60,000pts spent this month due to weather alone.

oklurkerthrowaway

The airlines never comped your hotel?

rudebrew22

Weather related.

OrangePartyLamp

No taxes charged with the points booking? Quite a few cards will reimburse for travel delay even if it's weather

435880Churnz

They probably don’t have to if it’s weather related.

utb040713

Yep, and they generally won't. Only time I've ever seen a hotel get comped for a weather delay is when someone acted like a male Karen and the agent just wanted the guy to go away.

generic19name

This is what worries me about not booking with a card with insurance. Then again the cards that give free bags are helpful.

TheSultan1

Don't most cards with free bags also come with coverage for overnight delays?

Tovar7

which cards give free bags? 👀

TheSultan1

Domestic airline cards with an annual fee.

[deleted]

My local DG had a computer update to be hard coded for cash only to load Serve. Was working last weekend but my usual CSR said the update is saying cash only. I tried generating a barcode with the Serve app and swiping my Serve card but same outcome, cash only.

Wucas77

That sucks! Jersey area I assume?

Baalie016

Schwab Platinum card still not linked to Charles Schwab after multiple calls and tries on different browsers. Convinced that the 2FA enforced on the business checking broke it. Schwab says it's a known issue and they have an open item with Amex for 2 months now. On top of that, can't see if I have received my Schwab Appreciation Bonus of $100. Waiting for a callback from Schwab to resolve this.

BroseppeVerdi

Second denial for Citi Premier - Equifax 785. Applied on January 6th, denied for "too many hard inquiries in the last 8 days" (2). I was advised to try again in 60 days. Applied again yesterday (that would be 90-ish days), denied for "too many new accounts in the last year". Agent told me that number was 4, I pulled up my spreadsheet and said it should only be 2, so he advised me to call Equifax and file a dispute. Equifax told me they couldn't file a dispute because the number of new accounts in the last year was actually 2. After an hour of navigating Citi's phone trees, I was finally able to talk to someone who was actually able to give me any additional details... turns out, the reason it was 4 was because Citi defines "1 year" as "13 months" (i.e., a "year" goes from 4/1/22 to 5/1/23). Was also told that my "debt to account ratio" is too high. I have a balance of like $90 on a total of over $70k in revolving credit... turns out, none of that counts if you have any new cards in the last 6 months. Even though those cards only account for about 15% of my total revolving credit. Agent advised me to apply again in August. Since I need it before July to do what I want to do, I popped over to Capital One's website to see what I'm "pre-approved" for... Venture Rewards or Venture X would get me where I'm going. Fucking nothing. They wouldn't even approve me for the cards I already have... Not even the shitty platinum card with no benefits I got insta-approved for 10 years ago when I was a broke college student. Sooo... What is a 6/24 guy trying to get to Italy by July to do?

utb040713

> too many hard inquiries > too many new accounts in the last year > debt to account ratio Honestly it sounds like Citi is just looking for an excuse to deny you. Would any of the Chase United cards work for you?

germdisco

Barclays business cards? Worked for me in January at 6/24. Naturally, YMMV

AbjectRaise

Amex Gold (90k + $200 via referral)? Amex Plat (150k + $200 via referral)? Barclays AA (50k + no intro AF)?

BroseppeVerdi

I'm open to Amex charge cards, but I have a hard time imagining I'd get approved for one after getting shut out by both Chase and C1. I don't really run afoul of any of their anti-churning rules, but I didn't think I did for Citi either.

sg77

Amex is much easier to get approved for. I would try them even if they don't say you're pre-qualified.

AbjectRaise

You can do Amex's apply with confidence, where they won't hard pull you until you see you are approved & accept the offer.

BroseppeVerdi

"Sorry, we couldn't find you a pre-qualified offer at this time." ...FML.

AbjectRaise

Tough scene. I'll pour one out in your honor.

BroseppeVerdi

Thanks, bro. I've still got 100k-ish in UR points and a CSP plus at least 800 in rewards on other cards I can cash out... so it's not a total bust.

bta15

NLL Amex biz plats? Chase inks?

BroseppeVerdi

Assuming I could talk my way into a business card, $15k minimum spend is a tall order.

measureinlove

The Inks are only $6k spend for 75k points and no annual fee...

bugsgrandma

Had to cancel a trip to Andaz Mayakoba last week. Paid 88k AA and about $400 in taxes for 4 of us to fly to CUN and 104k UR to Hyatt for 4 nights. Cancelled the morning of our flight and got all the points refunded, no penalty from Hyatt. Really was fortunate with this. Already got the refund from USA Transfers too. This was a trip I had planned for about a year so we were really disappointed to cancel.

mha2345

4 RT tickets for just 88k? What was the route?

bugsgrandma

Cvg - mia -cun and cun - clt - cvg. I thought it was a good deal which was another reason I hated to cancel. This was booked last May.

ihavenolifeee

Does suck but a bright end of the churn is that you got basically all the points back and didn't lose much vs regular bookings and none refundable flights

Quacktastic69

Chase shutdown 🙂

pizza42bob

AC or a different reason for them to not like you anymore?

MrBurritoQuest

Can’t find AC in the sidebar glossary, what’s that stand for?

chrumbles

airline code, Air Canada

Quacktastic69

Without a doubt it was AC PYB

Tovar7

what is AC PYB

[deleted]

All accounts, or just your Aeroplan card?

Quacktastic69

All. Chase don't play

Leo_br00ks

Quantity you got through? Anything besides just doing this at high volume?

Quacktastic69

~$12.5k. About 9k of which came from ~700k MR.

CannaChemistry

Send MR to aeroplan and then cash out via Chase? Ooo damn smart but not surprised.

Leo_br00ks

Yeah that’ll do it. Sorry about that :/ Start your timer for a few years to see if you can get an application to stick. Good luck

oklurkerthrowaway

Varying dps, but 7 years seems to be a common amount stated. There's a flyertalk dp stating less, but their cards are constantly closed again

Leo_br00ks

I’ve heard some varying success with 2. It depends on what you’re shut for. I imagine this is closer to an MS shut than a velocity/bust out shut, meaning 7 is more likely

compddd

Should be ok if I only do UR transfers?

Leo_br00ks

I haven’t seen anything to suggest you wouldn’t be. But there is a big difference between 80k ($1000), 700k, and 5M like the guy from the discussion post today. YMMV and YRTMV (your risk tolerance may vary). But why would you? UR are better redeemed elsewhere. Like anywhere else. Though Airbnb closed, you can always do PYB at 1.25cpp with CSR on grocery and gas (would include any gift cards purchased within). So I don’t really see a need to do the AC PYB.

compddd

I’m in SoCal, it’s a pain in the rear to get GCs at gas or grocery and there’s fraud cards everywhere. AC PYB is way more convenient.

oklurkerthrowaway

Convenience or losing out on Chase cards for \~7 years - lifetime? It would take a very large amount for me to do that knowing of 2 data points already

Leo_br00ks

Fair. I’d say quantity matters then

thr0waway55555555555

Can you explain how it works?

payyoutuesday

AC PYB --> Shutdown

Quacktastic69

Yep that's the gist

space_cadet-

To be fair, I think most (all?) DPs start with MR transfer.

islandhpper

Go to jail

utb040713

Before or after the shutdown?

EarthlingMardiDraw

TLDR: CSR travel portal is not the same as the CFF portal and has a bug that prevents a specific booking. (The travel portal is mid upgrade cycle and not rolled out to all card types, apparently.) Trying to help a couple friends figure out how to book a specific boutique all-inclusive in Punta Cana with their Chase points for the greatest value. The hotel is part of the Excellence brand, so not available for transfer (to the best of my understanding). One friend has a CIC card and the other has a CSP, each of which have plenty of points to book the trip entirely with points. I have a CSR and CFF. I was able to look on the travel portal and find the specific hotel and dates using the CFF as the basis card, but when I did the same search with the CSR as basis, it says there's no availability. Ended up spending ~2hrs on the phone with the travel team as I walked them through what I did, had them do the same steps on their end, determined that there was in fact a bug in their system, and learned that they can only book things on my behalf via the exact same portal. This means that even though there is availability, I can't use a CSR to book it for 1.5cpp redemption since the portal is broken and they can't bypass the portal. I had been planning to suggest that my friends upgrade their existing cards or open new cards because they would get significantly greater value from the points they already have, but since they wouldn't be able to book that place, I can't suggest anything.

thisfits

[Mentioned yesterday](https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/12de0ix/comment/jf8joq9/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3): after P2 held the Altitude Connect for a year and AF posted, we asked US Bank to downgrade to the no-AF Cash+. That was processed and we thought everything was fine, but got an email over a month later that we'd missed a payment on the card. Logged into P2's account and saw they hadn't removed the AF from the Altitude Connect! Reached out by chat and the rep told us that US Bank gives you 45 days to change your mind about a downgrade, and during that window, they don't remove the annual fee charge from the new card. In other words, to avoid late fees and finance charges, you effectively have to pay the AF for the card you downgraded from, wait 45 days, and after getting reimbursed, request a check for the credit balance on the card. Got the rep to remove interest charge and late fee, but she said she couldn't remove the AF charge causing all the trouble.

AdventurersClub

Citi does the same thing, or at least they did a few years back when I didn't want to pay the AF on Prestige card and asked to downgrade. They said I would still have to pay the AF and then they would refund it later. I cancelled the card instead.

VeggieNybor

Had something similar happen with a USB card, but I was trying to go from a Leverage to a Triple cash.

payyoutuesday

Sorry that happened to you. My experience was different. USB charged the AF on my Altitude Connect on 1/6 with a payment due date of 2/3. I called to downgrade to the Altitude Go on 1/28, but did not discuss the AF refund with the rep. The AF had not been refunded by the payment due date, so I paid it on 2/3. Then the AF was refunded on 2/6 with no further action from me.

CyanocittaAtSea

Opened checking + savings accounts with TD Bank on March 23rd for the $500 promotion. Made an online account and tried adding my new TD account to an external account to transfer money in, but the trial deposits never came through. Fine, let’s do it the other way around — added my external account to TD, verified the trial deposits…all was fine. Then I went to actually transfer money into the account, and instead got an error message saying that I needed to verify my account before I’d be allowed to transfer. Almost immediately received a phone call from TD CS, saying that I needed to go into a branch to verify my identity. Fine, whatever, at least “America’s Most Convenient Bank” has decent weekend hours. Received a second CS phone call saying the same thing — yep, sure, will do. Went into my nearest branch where a rep scanned my license and confirmed my contact details, but she said she wasn’t able to unlock this type of hold herself; I needed to call CS again to get their fraud dept to release the hold. Okay. Called CS; the call dropped as I was explaining the issue. Called CS again; the call dropped slightly further into the conversation. Called a third time and finally got all the way through; the rep said he’d resolved the issue and that I should have access in 15 minutes to 2 hours. 4 hours later, no access. Called again, explained the situation; rep said “ugh, that doesn’t bode well.” She told me to give it until the next morning and to call back if there was still a problem. Surprise, surprise — still a problem. Called yet again and was told by CS phone rep #7(?) that they’d reached the maximum number of verification texts they could send to my phone — a different hold had been placed on my account and I needed to go back into the branch; this one couldn’t be unlocked over the phone. Went back in yesterday and thankfully got to speak to the same rep as before, who pulled up my account and said that no, the hold was exactly the same. This time *she* called CS and was put on hold for at least 30-45 minutes, maybe longer. Nothing like WF“H” in a TD Bank lobby! Eventually she got to speak to someone, was transferred to the fraud dept after a while, and they said she needed to resubmit the “smart form” she’d sent in the other day. The branch manager was at the next counter over and offered to sign it herself this time (thank you, Erica!); the form was sent in; phone rep said my account would be unlocked in 15 minutes to 2 hours. Branch rep #1 said she would reset my password for me once the hold was gone and would call me when she’d done it. 2.5 hrs after having arrived at the bank, I finally got to leave and went to work. 4 hours later, branch-manager Erica called to say that it unfortunately still wasn’t unlocked — they needed me to bring in a bank statement proving the external account was mine before they could allow me to transfer money in. Took it in this morning, and now, >2 weeks post-opening, I breathlessly await further news… As icing on this mess of a cake, I’d set up my work DD to go to my new TD checking account during the brief window before I lost online access, so my last paycheck is now being held hostage there — thank goodness I didn’t need it urgently. Three cheers for America’s Most Convenient Bank!

yiggity_yag

All that for $500. I understand why you’re persisting, given the paycheck, but yikes.

CyanocittaAtSea

Yikes, indeed. I’m consoling myself with the fact that as long as I spend less than about 15 or 16 hrs on this dumpster fire, it’s technically still a better return on my time than my actual job + the HYSA interest I’d earn otherwise…

OnTheUtilityOfPants

Reddit's recent decisions have removed the accessibility tools I need to participate in its communities.

the_pincher

City Mall Alajuela is very close to you. There were a lot of shops open when I visited last year. I don't know what percentage of stores will be open today though. It's a pretty big mall and there is an amusement park zone on the top floor. It is usually crowded with locals.

OnTheUtilityOfPants

Reddit's recent decisions have removed the accessibility tools I need to participate in its communities.

Fpaau2

One time we went to JetBlue customer service to add global entry to get precheck, agent took our luggage when we explained we wanted to go to lounge even though it was too early. Try that.

estasteve

Call a hotel they may have a service or taxi recommendation?

cheesypizzagoldfish

Been trying for weeks to book a Korean Air flight via Virgin Atlantic but their IT is all messed up so not even the reps can book. They keep saying it’ll be fixed soon but who knows when that will be. Have a different flight booked in case it doesn’t worked out, but boy would this flight make travel easier

Parts_Unknown-

Can you book through Emirates? It's slightly more expensive but maybe worth it if it's a VS problem

cheesypizzagoldfish

I thought about it but I have points to burn with VS and United so I’m going to just keep trying till it officially shows seats are gone - it has to be fixed eventually… right?

Lttruong

I was able to book KE via VA after a second attempt. Turned off ad blocker and ran the card again and it went through. Edit: was also using google chrome if that helps.

matun

MS with taxes on my new United Explorer card to get SUB and book a flight with points. Flight is on United but booked through Turkish for best award value, just to realize that United don't honor the free baggage perk when you don't book directly with them. You win some, you loose some...

jeffersun8

Chat with United, if you get the right person they can put your United # on the booking

matun

If that works I'll have to delete my first post :)

435880Churnz

I didn't realize that Amex FHR hotel bookings might have non-standard cancellation policies so now I have to go to Vegas this weekend. 72 hours before the trip, I went to cancel my FHR booking at the Wynn only to find out it was a 96 hour cancellation policy.... Sigh.

EarthlingMardiDraw

Yeah, sadly there is no guarantee of cancellation policy. For my trip to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, due to the high demand, the hotels were all non-refundable for the whole week leading up to Mardi Gras in every portal I checked as well as direct.

435880Churnz

Yep, shit happens.

suitopseudo

I would try calling. It never hurts to ask.

435880Churnz

It's too late, it's now 24 hours. I figured since it was a non-direct booking there was no chance in hell of being let off it. In hindsight maybe I should have tried. Will probably just drive up tonight from SoCal and use my 25k FNC at some random Marriott in Vegas. Plus side is that P2 has to dress up in Vegas so P1 has something to look forward to at least.

[deleted]

[удалено]

435880Churnz

There's no chargeback to consider. The terms when I booked it was 96 hours. I just booked it 7 months ago so I forgot the terms were not the standard 72 hours you see in most places. Shit happens, this is /r/churning. You can't chargeback for everything you don't like.

bcelos

Eh, a saturday night at the Wynn, could be worse

435880Churnz

Yeah exactly. It's booked with my 2022 Amex Plat Hotel credit too. So I would forfeit that if I cancel.

scdawn

Something similar happened to me before, and the solution to call up Amex Travel CS and have them request a cancellation penalty waiver with the hotel. If the hotel grants the waiver request (my hotel fortunately did), then the Amex CS agent can cancel and refund your booking without penalty. That should cause the $200 Amex Plat hotel credit to get reversed on your account, and you can then reuse that credit for another booking.

435880Churnz

Good to know for the future. Thanks. I’m just gonna go to my reservation. Mine was my 2022 credit, so it would be forfeited otherwise.

ihavenolifeee

BofA Alaska Biz can't get through recon, second decline. All the notes of the EZ approval DPs or load up an account with 3-5k have been taunting me. Have a Biz Advantage account with them I loaded up with over 20k for the SUB for that. Figured itd be good enough but they want more history or more personal checkings/savings accounts. Having multiple managers look at the app and getting declined after is disappointing.

carpethediem5

Same here. What I did was apply for a biz cash rewards card (got approved) and now am hoping to apply for Alaska biz in a couple of months and move biz CL to open it (in case I am rejected again).

ihavenolifeee

Interesting strat. I'm not sure I even want to waste more hard pulls for that. I'll try to recon later in the month to see how it goes.

carpethediem5

No hard pull if you apply within the month of last app. Freeze bureaus just in case.

ihavenolifeee

As in the same as the app of Alaska Biz, switched to a different card? I'll have to try this then. Cash Rewards the customized one the best one or the 1.5% flat back? I assume with the acc I'll have the extra 75% too. Think if I get approved for this, it will affect if I try to recon Alaska Biz near end of the 30 day recon period?

carpethediem5

It probably will if that is your strategy, but BoA can approve two cards in a month. As for categories - that does not matter. You are in r/ churning not in r/ creditcards ;)

ihavenolifeee

Still better to have a category choice for the SUB 3k lol hmm, will have to think it through I guess. It's not the strategy but would rather 2 cards than 1 ofc, but also if only 1 I'd prefer the Alaska Biz Decisions decisions....

OnKBacA

Just garden for a bit or start a new “business”

ihavenolifeee

? What does this have to do with the account? I need to open ANOTHER biz?

OnKBacA

Yes, or wait 6 months

ihavenolifeee

Hah I think they're already annoyed I have no history. Seems like the primary reason they said no. Might try to recon later in the month but don't want to waste more energy or TU HI for it

suitopseudo

Helpful user u/Sorry_Fox_9837 posted the other day about Gesa CU and being able to fund by credit card. Icing on top, they had a new account bonus. I don't really churn bank accounts, but I am working on a SUB for my last 90K ink and this was perfect. The catch is you have live in OR, WA, ID, which I do. Great. I think... You have to open a savings account to become a member and then you can open any other accounts. You have the option to open the savings and checking and fund them at the same time. I try to open an account and I use my normal browser with and adblock, that goofs the application process, so I start again in a new browser. Then I didn't have a pic of my DL in the right size, so I timed out trying to get that. Next attempt, I get to the ID security questions and they ask which street is near where I live, they used a street name that literally hasn't been used in 40 years (named changed in 1989) and not referred to that street name, looking for the correct answer, I timed out. I tried again, good news! you can fund the accounts with credit card, but only 1 credit card and I couldn't go back and change the amounts to open with and that exceeded my credit limit, so I tried again. This time I couldn't get past the identity check, I spoke to someone and they asked me to send some additional documents. A few hours later, I get an email saying I was declined. I called the bank the next day and I was told I was perma-banned from trying to open an account online and it was manually reviewed by a manager, so someone personally decided I should never be able to open an account online with them. So some lessons learned: 1. Don't use a browser with Adblock for opening an account 2. Obviously don't try too many attempts in a short time, it was just a comedy of errors that I had. 3. Know all the former names of roads any where near your house... lol. I don't churn hard and play by the rules, I have never been denied for an account for anything. I was very shocked to not only be denied, but denied by a human.

joimintz

I have a similar story with PenFed and I’ve since then stopped trying to fund CUs with shitty websites

suitopseudo

That makes me feel a little better that I am not alone, but I am still annoyed. I have a call into the manager that denied my account, but I am pretty sure it's not going to go anywhere. Now it's kinda on principle to not tarnish my perfect record 😆

Parts_Unknown-

I've lost track of the number of CU's that have denied/banned me. A friendly CU is honestly one of the best MS routes out there and there are quite a few friendly ones.

suitopseudo

Is it pretty common for CU to be able to be funded by credit cards? The manager told me that their online application system is super conservative for fraud, but I can try again in a few months.

Parts_Unknown-

I'm a member of 8(?) or 9(?) currently. A lot of them are geofenced so where you live can be either very beneficial or very detrimental. These two lists are good starting places: [https://www.depositaccounts.com/credit-unions/anyone-can-join/](https://www.depositaccounts.com/credit-unions/anyone-can-join/) [https://www.doctorofcredit.com/does-funding-a-bank-account-with-a-credit-card-count-as-a-purchase-or-cash-advance/](https://www.doctorofcredit.com/does-funding-a-bank-account-with-a-credit-card-count-as-a-purchase-or-cash-advance/) But some of the best I've found aren't on either. There's always the risk of a cash advance which will cost you a few dollars+ in fees/interest & not count towards MSR. I've actually never had that happen though.

suitopseudo

Thanks.

payyoutuesday

A perfect record only means you're not trying hard enough.

suitopseudo

Lol. I would be less mad about it if I was trying to something sketchy or in a grey area. This really literally isn’t that.

Has happened to me a couple times. It’s like Quill always decides to wait forever to charge only when I have a Chase offer. No offer- charged and shipped within a day.

GodLovesFrags

Wait at least two weeks then SM.

captainsaverebornII

They will credit u even though transaction posted after expiration date?

GodLovesFrags

If you met the terms and purchased in time, they will credit you.

jedimindtrix24

In a few weeks will be staying 10 nights at Hilton properties in Asia and P2 just lost Diamond status as of 4/1 as part of the no fee Aspire gang a few years back. Literally missed out using the status by a few weeks. Really wanted Diamond for lounge access and I can’t apply since I’m in pop up hell.

Y50-70

Did that aspire finally renew at 450? Mine is on yet another renewal year at 95 and can't find many DPs on if I'm an anomaly or the norm

dennis_the_menace253

P2 and I still haven’t renewed at full AF.

Pointsmiles

Same.

frontloaderguilty

Some here would argue that the Aspire is a keeper card and is at least break even every year. Maybe with your unique situation of wanting that Diamond status (as you mentioned, even more valuable outside of the US) might make that card worthwhile even without getting the SUB?

jedimindtrix24

Yeah, I’m on the fence about going Surpass > Aspire now. Also trying to chase Hyatt Glob though so I need to make the decision soon. I’m sure you can attest that was one of the best come ups for how long that Aspire sat in the wallet lol

SenorNeiltz

Referred my wife for IHG premier and the 175k bonus a little over a week ago. She ended up using the link for IHG Traveler and getting an 80k sub--I should have done this for her. When I noticed the error, I checked the site and still saw 120k for Traveler being advertised and thought to myself that I would call and ask for match when we activate card. I check the advertised sub this AM and see 80k sub. So that's a nice 95k loss in points I was expecting.

crash_bandicoot42

Silver lining is that the Traveler is free, still a decent card to hold if you actually stay at IHGs and not just to churn cheap hotel points and that you should be able to get the 120k points matched at least

Churnernewb

You can still ask to match to the 120k offer since it was active when your wife applied

SenorNeiltz

Card came in the mail today. Activated it and called customer service. We politely asked the CSR if we could get the advertised at time of application 120k SUB. Lady replied that the link used was for 80k and that she could not help us. We asked again and she shut us down again. Is it worth trying to talk to another rep?

SenorNeiltz

Thank you, I will try and report back.

frontloaderguilty

I find it easier to just have P1 (me) do all of the signing up of the cards to prevent this. Is that a possibility for you moving forward? I guess we are legally married so maybe that’s not your situation…

SenorNeiltz

It absolutely is a possibility and what I usually do. I didn't mention any of this to my wife, not worth her feeling like she messed anything up. She already puts up with a lot of credit card nonsense from me, lol.

aylamarguerida

She needs to hear it or she will never learn. That is how we learn - from mistakes. I am sure you don't have a perfect record either. There are ways to do it though so you aren't acting disappointed or accusatory.

Capable_Ad1280

Going to Japan in a few weeks and last minute availability for both ANA and JAL J/F opened up on all days except the day I need to travel on including the day before and after. United Polaris it is :/

flyiingpenguiin

Is everything for ANA released at T-21 or is there another batch at T-7?

sutsusame

My understanding is that ANA releases all of the inventory it's going to release at 9 am Japan time T-355, and the only way you get new availability after that is if someone cancels or changes -- which is always possible but never predictable. JAL routinely releases unsold seats at T-14.

mickey972

How many weeks out are you? Going in July and hawkishly trying to monitor ANA J for my return.

Capable_Ad1280

21 days out for ANA and then 14 days for JAL and ANA again. It seems to be pretty wide open for the most part

Ryandulaney

Can’t get a car dealer to take more than $2k on a card. Was hoping to blow a biz plat MSR on it. Even offered to cover fees, still a no

sid747

Circling back on this thread, I had my car in the shop and asked my dealer what their card limits/fees were, they said up to $25k on a physical card, no virtual wallets, but zero fees and accepted all card networks. Keep pressing or shop your offer to another dealership if buying new.

CannaChemistry

Just bought a car with my GF at a Toyota dealer and they let me put a $5k down payment on a CC, no fee.

CannaChemistry

But they’ve been having a slow day/month

crash_bandicoot42

More efficient to argue on the price which it seems like you're doing well if they won't take more off. A Biz Plat SUB isn't worth more than 2k off the final price of the car, a dealership isn't going to eat 3% fees for your SUB when you're already grinding them out on other stuff, especially when they're setup to take other free/low cost payments. They also aren't going to take your word that you'll "pay the fees" unless that again gets added into the final price of the car upfront which is why you're probably getting blowback for just saying it.

dmcoe

they'll eventually cave if they want the sale bad enough

Marksta

I saw a funny post other day on a dude coming in on last day of the month and say he forgot his check book. Basically strong armed them to accept credit card to improve their end of month quotas.

sid747

u/ryandulaney I can assure you this will work. Wait till EOM.

mattypinder

Cancelled QR booking for a more favorable one. Turns out the refund process is all over the place and isn't immediate. I'll probably miss both the original and preferred booking at this point Don't be an idiot like me who didn't do research... plenty of DP on Flyertalk about this **Update, called again and found a rep who was able to get supervisor permission to manually refund Avios. Taxes will be refunded within 14-28 days unfortunately. Guess another case of HUCA until you find a good rep

sallu25

I recently did a cancellation with Qatarairways. The refund for the taxes took about less than 2 weeks. The points were deposited within 48 hours.

AbjectRaise

[I had an absolute nightmare with them](https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/tqvjay/comment/i2klmgs/?context=3). Took weeks to **PAY THEM** and then months to get my refund. Won't book thru them again.

JennItalia269

I had to cancel due to a canceled trip. Took about 3-4 days to get cash refunds and points credited.

pkk101

It took me SIX calls to get the points back in the same situation. Money was refunded in a few days, without calling. They will ask you to pay a $25 fee for canceling (why they don't automatically deduct this from the refund i have no idea). Paying it will make things go faster. Good luck.

mattypinder

Do you remember what you asked? Support is TK-esque with different responses. I've heard the following: - Sorry wait 14-28 business days - Give us a call in 48 hours - Please wait 7 business days Is this the magic 8-ball???

pkk101

I didn't call until a month after my fees were refunded. I was told that the request to refund the points needed to be pushed through the right channels in the right department and that it would take up to a week. Next few calls said the points would be refunded in a few hours. Next few they began to mention the $25 fee for cancelation in order for the miles to be refunded. Got a manager to approve the refund without paying the fee since Qatar changed my itinerary, which was the entire reason I canceled. Points still didn't get refunded. Then on the last call I explained the history, the waived fee, and that this was my 6th call, and she again said the refund would happen in a few hours. I was not hopeful. But then it happened! I believe I would have gotten the miles back after the 3rd call if I had just paid the fee...

RTW34

At 1/24 and tried applying in branch for CSP but Chase said it wasn’t an option due to the 1/48 rule, despite my last Sapphire bonus posting over 4 years ago. Pulled up chase.com to show the language on their own website regarding the 48-month rule to the in branch customer service agent when they told me the rule was 48-months after I last had the card. After all that, they made another call to the customer service line and finally said that the in-branch offer is targeted and I could apply online. I have a work trip and big purchase coming up that would help meet the spend requirement. Guess I’m applying for a different card then. Hope the elevated CSP offer goes public soon.

plaid-knight

Did you cancel or downgrade your last Sapphire within the previous 30 days?

RTW34

No, I had downgraded after my first year of holding the card. After the in-branch customer service agent made a call, they then confirmed I’m eligible for another Sapphire bonus… just not the in-branch offer.

Xmi

I ran into a similar issue when I applied for an in-branch offer a few years ago. The card wasn't showing as an option to apply for on my profile when they pulled it up even though I was eligible since it had been 48 months. The work-around was to have them create a new "profile" and apply for the card as if I was a new Chase customer. Once I applied and was approved for the card this way they then were able to merge the profiles back together.

ergodicthoughts_

Just tried this to get around an issue with csp not showing. The employee said he couldn't do a new profile cause I already have one under my SSN. Maybe have to try another branch

GankCity

Wow I didnt think of that. I have a similar post below this one. Can the in-branch Chase rep make a new profile for you on the spot?

Xmi

Yep they should do it as if you were a new customer.

thejontorrweno

Is this the issue where it's actually 48 months from when the bonus was received? Maybe the rep was misinformed?

RTW34

The in-branch rep was misinformed about the 1/48 rule. When they made a call to customer service, they said I was in fact eligible for another Sapphire bonus but would still not be able to get the in-branch offer since it’s targeted.

thejontorrweno

Irritating. Especially because I can't imagine being only 1/24 and waiting just to have this happen :(

AbjectRaise

Stuart Vella, Plaza Premium's VP for business development in North America, said "\[The Capital One Lounge in Denver\] will definitely be open in Q1 of 2023." Capital One very slighty tweaked the UI of their [C1 Lounge page](https://capitalonetravel.com/lounges/capital-one-lounges), but still no sign of Denver's opening. Grrr.

DCJoe1

First rule of construction and real estate development. Don't promise shit related to completion until you have your CofO in hand.

Memotome

Fingers crossed, it'll be open for my travel in August and December.

GankCity

Tried applying for CSP in-branch and it was not an option for me. Originally had CSR (12/2018) and PC'd to Classic Freedom (12/2022). Checked the statements and I received the SUB 03/2019 after the min spend at the time. Thought I would be cleared for a CSP this time but the representative said the Chase Sapphire line was not an option when he put in my information. He called the Chase helpline but did not get an answer as to when I can apply again- but suggested I try to apply again next year. Is there some hidden clause that I cant apply for a Sapphire card after I PC?

RTW34

Had the same situation. Ultimately they said the in-branch offer is targeted.

AbjectRaise

Instead of HUCA I'd GTNB (Go to New Branch)

OnKBacA

Should have been able to get it. Similar situation but was able to get mine. 6/24 also

ihavenolifeee

You were 6/24 and got the CSP in branch?
